If you are concerned about your beloved pet and are considering the options of different kinds of pet insurance plans and want to know which plan to choose, this website is for you.
When it comes to our pets, most of us fall into the category of looking at our pets or animal companions as family members and not just animals. We animal lovers know how close the bonds are to our cats, dogs, birds and other animal friends.
But it is important to ask some basic questions in order to make the right choice when it comes to pet insurance.
Let’s cover some basic concerns. Here are some important things to consider.
1. How much is the monthly premium going to cost in comparison to the out of pocket expenses month to month without pet insurance?
It all depends on the pet insurance plan you get. If you only want to be covered for large claims or “catastrophic” situations, then your monthly premiums will likely be lower than for a plan that will pay the majority of your vet bills. So you will want to decide beforehand which is the better plan for you.
2. Which veterinarians are in the network of vets covered by the insurance policy?
Of most recommended plans, the majority allow you to choose any licensed veterinarian and only certain discount plans require you to select from a specific network.
3. What about the age of my pet or it’s particular breed?
A few plans reviewed have a small surcharge for particular breeds but most do not.
Depending on the breed, some do not qualify for coverage if they beyond a certain age. Usually the limit is 6 or 8 years, but it may depend upon the breed.

The pet health insurance companies pay for significant portion of the veterinary bills. This is why so many pet owners are looking to insure their pets health in the first place. Most animals either get an illness at least once in their lives, whether it is a serious or life threatening illness. Others have an accident, are hit by a car or injured by another animal and those vet bills can be huge. Sometimes it’s only a few hundred dollars a year, but sometimes it can be in the thousands for an operation of some kind. Our Cocker Spaniel had to have surgery on torn tendons in the knee area and it costed over two thousand dollars. So, if you have your pet insured, you will pay just a small amount of the sum. The rest will be paid by the insurance company.
One reason why you may want to consider a pet care insurance is that in the long run it is really not expensive when compared to the costs of ongoing annual expenses at your local veterinarian’s office.
If you have just recently gotten a puppy or kitten or other animal and it is still at a young age, you would do well to get the insurance now rather than to wait until the animal is much older. If, down the road, the animal becomes ill or has an injury, it is in your best interests to have the pet insured already.
If you are not sure where to turn to for pet insurance, try to get some information from your veterinarian, or check out the reviews of different companies online. Also, don’t hesitate to ask someone you know who has already gone down this route and may know of a good pet insurance company available in your area.
