My almost 11 mnth old female lab has been getting sick often…

So far:
-Eye Infection (technically twice; it was starting and I had medicine leftover from last time and after I used it-it was fine)
-Ear Infection
-UTI….twice

The vet recommended:
-Allergy test
-Thyroid exam

They also recommended me changing her food…
She’s on Nature’s Recipe, which is a reputable brand and is good…she likes it (eats it all up) and I haven’t had any problems since I switched her on it….

I heard if I want to change her foods I should just buy Royal Canine and since she’s getting sick just buy her Vitamins and she should be fine…

I’m probably not going to do the allergy test because honestly,…a dog with allergies…? To what….? lol….

The thyroid exam seems like something that should be done to a dog that’s a lot older than she is now…

Maybe I should just do a simple blood test and see how that goes?
The allergy and the thyroid cost 0 something each….it doesn’t matter if it’s for my dogs health but like thinking about it honestly….does she really need it? Or is the vet just trying to get in some extra money…?

Oh, I go to Petsmart’s Banfield… (big mistake…switching as soon as my year insurance is over…)

What do you guys/gals think?
Should I just change her food to Royal Canine and get her Vitamins?
Or go through with those tests?
Or just go with a simple blood test?

***Oh, by the way, she is kind of overweight…she eats 2 cups of food a day…and she was chubby ever since we got her (8 wks)….

NOTE:
I would think people who actually know what they’re talking about would answer my questions instead of the people who consider to be know-it-alls and don’t have their facts straight…so let me clear things up…

-The food I feed her has no grain, no corn, no artificial preservatives,etc…it’s healthy and not a bad food…that is why I said it’s reputable…
-Royal Canine is a VERY GOOD food..if you have an argument against that…please show me your proof besides maybe a dog is allergic to it or something….
-Food doesn’t contain all of the vitamins a dog needs, anyone with half a brain could realize this…
If a person only eats good food…there’s no way in hell will they EVER, EVER, EVER….be healthy…there are various other affects whether it’s in the environment or other things they take LIKE VITAMINS…that help their immune systems and etc…
-The person telling me this advice is someone very knowledgeable considering he’s had dogs all his life…
-When I said "The vet wants my money" it’s not completely literal…obviously they don’t get all of it….but I mean it more in a sense of they don’t care about my money and just do whatever seems easier and whatnot……
-I know dogs get allergies…it was like an exaggeration…but it’s almost obvious this couldn’t have been caused from an allergy…

I hope I straightened things out for some of you people who’ve answered in my other question and your answer was just completely off….

NOTE**:This is the second food I’m giving my dog…the past infections (except the second UTI and the second Eye infection) were from the other food….(IAMS Smart Puppy)

I just took my new kitten (5 weeks old) to the vet and she was tested positive for feline leukemia. I have been keeping her separate from my two other cats in a separate room. The vet suggested I wait a month and have her retested. What if she is retested and she is negative. Does that mean she doesn’t have it anymore? Will she ever be able to be with my other cats in the house. I don’t know what to do? Help

Besides just being constant… does it feel different from a normal head ache due to stress or migrains? I feel like its more of a head pain than an ache… almost like a futtering burning sensation.

I just found a stray cat and she is in DESPERATE NEED of a cut. She sheds as she walks. If u pet her, clumps of hair will come into your hand just from one light pet. She needs to be shaved immediately but I know that a lot of groomers don’t take cats until they receive proof of shots. I’m on a very low budget and don’t have the money to get this adult cat vaccinated just yet but I will get to it. But right now I HAVE to get her shaved. Is there anywhere I can take her to get her hair cut short?

Can someone really be a woman in a mans body? or vise versa? If you get a sex change operation, does that really change anything, I mean genetically you are still your birth given sex, are you not? You will never be able to get pregnant and never be able to get a period. You were born a man or woman by nature, thus your sex is such. Is this not evidence that one is transexual by mental disorder and not because they are bound by science or genetics? what if I beleive I am a dog in a man’s body? Does that mean I should get an operation to be a dog? Im not saying transexuals should be outlawed or anything-( whatever makes them happy as long as no one is being harmed)..what really bothers me is when they say it’s a genetic issue and health insurance should cover a sex change operation or part of it -as is the case in some U.S cities- like my city S.F….That is wrong…

My little cousin saw a children’s movie and he says that a pug (the type of dog) can unmount a license plate. I keep on telling him that it is just a movie and it is fake, but he continues to believe that nonsense. Sorry if the question is kind of stupid, but answer nicely.

Our cat was recently diagnosed w/ FeLV. We are going to do everything possible to make sure he survives and has a great quality of life. I’m a little bit worried though b/c although I know that this is a species specific virus…I’m worried that my brothers baby (1yr old) that lives w/ us might catch something from the cat…some other virus. Has anyone lived w/ a FeLV cat and had small children? or other pets like dogs?
Thanks to everyone that has responded. This is the first time that we’ve experienced something like this so we’re very inexperienced and shocked. We love this cat and don’t want to get rid of him but at the same time we were worried about our other pet and the baby. Thanks for putting our fears to rest. We will do everything on our part to make sure our kitty gets better.

to clarify my dog is not eating or drinking because he is sick with lyme. I need to give him pills with food but he wants nothing to do with his food. If I give him bread with peanut butter he will eat it- is this ok? I don’t want him to refuse his food because I have now started giving him some people food.

I just got a new kitty and I think I made the mistake of letting my family take care of setting up an appointment for him. Maybe it is a reasonable price, but I feel as though maybe going to an animal shelter or something for vaccinations would’ve been wiser.

Anyway, this Banfield plan my kitty is on is somewhere around 0 total for the year, and covers the following: otoscopic exam, ophthalmic exam, rectal, dental, neurologic, cardiovascular, weight, coat + skin, abdominal palpation, urogenital, musculoskeletal, pulmonary/lung eval, leukemia/AIDS, ear swab/microscopic exam, intestinal parasite fecal exams ( 3x) dewordm for roundworm/hookworms (4x) and lastly, the spaying/neutering.

Is this bogus or what?

I don’t know what to do , I try to keep her off of the furniture she just sheds like crazy. My other cat does not shed bad at all. Any suggetions will be greatly appreciated.

I have been trying to find a job on and off for the last couple of years without much success as well as trying to hustle by walking dogs, cleaning apartments, etc. My family who has been worried that they would have to give my mom and I some money are now doing that and are angry as a result. When I tried to tell them that the job market is tight and I have been trying to find a job, they treat me as a liar. The last time that I was unemployed, they pressured me into finding a job, which I did , and was so angry at them that I took it out on employees at the job and was subsequently fired. I now have an injury to my leg in which I can’t put it down completely and I wonder should I try to go on job interviews and I’ve no health insurance. I am in my mid 30′s and I am tired of being treated like a baby or having to account for every job move to the family? I am feeling more suicidal by the day and I don’t want to go to another job and going off and getting fired again. Help!!!!!

Me and my fiance are first time renters, we have a 20 gallon aquarium which we would like to bring to our new 2nd floor apartment. This fish tank has a lot of sentimental value because it belonged to a great friend of ours who was killed in Iraq and it is one of the few things we have of his. The apartment policy is that you must have 10 gallons or less and must be downstairs with renters insurance! I think it is ridiculous to think that a 20 gallon fish tank upstairs is such a liability as to be forbidden. So since we are renting a 2 bed we were thinking about just keeping it in the master bedroom and maybe hiding it in the closet when apartment officials come over??? LOL sounds so ridiculous over a fish tank but it really is that important to us. The ridiculous thing is that these are pet friendly apartments. How often should I expect a visit from an official to make sure were following the rules? how much notice should I expect? thanks any advice is welcome
