A few questions regarding cat vaccinations?
A friend found some kittens and I’ve just taken one of them from her. They were all taken to the vet just to make sure they were healthy but not given any shots. I think the kitty is about 6 months old. What kind of shots and tests should I ask the vet for?
I also have two other cats. One of them is almost two, I got him only a few months ago and I know he is not current on his shots. My other cat is 5 and occasionally goes outside, and though I got her all of her vaccinations at the proper times when she was young, she is no longer current on hers.
What kinds of vaccinations should I get for the older cats? or should I even bother at this stage for them?
Thanks in advance for the help.

She should be vaccinated for Rabies and distemper combo (FVRCP). She should also be dewormed and tested for feline aids and leukemia, especially if you have other cats. Also, if your other cat goes outdoors, he should be dewormed occasionally as well tested occasionally for feline aids and leukemia. If he’s not out fighting with other cats, I wouldn’t be too concerned, but he could still contract it. Definitely have the kitten tested before exposing him to your other cats.
Yes, your cats need to be vaccinated. All states require rabies by law. Also, since they go outside they should at least get distemper and leukemia vaccines. There are also vaccines for Fiv, Fip, and bordetella. I would reccomend all of them. As for testing, they can get tested for leukemia and feline aids. I would have them tested because if they are positive they will spread it to other cats. I would also have a stool sample checked for parasites. Good luck!
Bozema, you better check your info because you are wrong! We routinely vaccinate for FIV and FIP. I work at a vet clinic and give these vaccines myself!
cats definitely need their yearly vacinations and this is for cat flu, HIV etc. its important they are kept up to date because if there are strays hanging around, your cat is likely to pick up infections from them. Nowadays, vacinations arent too expensive but just very important and even if your cats are behind etc, its never too late to get them vacinated and then you can just mark it in your calendar for subsequent years. additionally, cats should have worm and flea treatment every 3 MONTHS with something like frontline. good luck. i think it is great you are being so responsible with your kitties.
You should pack the whole bunch up and take them all in and get them all current. Tell the vet the situation so he will know who needs what. Yes, it does matter at this stage for them, and that goes double if one goes outside.
By the way, there are no vaccinations for FIV and FIP for cats and bordatella is not routinely given.
Cats need to have a feline leukemia shot and rabies shot. YES you must do this. If your cats go outside at all and even if it doesn’t, you have to get their shots. Feline leukemia is VERY contagious and rabies is pretty common also. Never let a cat out that hasn’t been given it’s shots.
the older cats can get their shots from the local petco for a reasonable cost as for the new one he will need a series of shots including the fiv test and his vet bill may reach 250.00-300.00 to check him out

You should contact your local vet and make an appt. Rabies is the only required vax by state law, however your vet can help rcmd. other prev. care vax- to keep your cats healthy- based on their lifestyles and needs.
And yes- there is vax for FIP, and FIV. However once your cat is up to date on FIV vax- he will come up positive on a regular test- so if FIV is a concern at that time- a Western Blot test needs to be done.
