My wife and I had the same question about two years ago. We thought about the Dyson and others in that price range. I wasnt ready to pay $500-$600 dollars for a vacuum.

We have three Siberian Huskies who I swear shed everyday of the year. I read consumer reports and Eureka's The boss got very good reviews specifically for removing pet hair. We own it and swear by it. Its a great vacuum with a sealed heppa filter. The best thing is it can be purchased for under $150.00. The bags and belts are low cost and easy to find. I should also mention that it is quiet.
Go out and buy one you can thank me later.

I have 3 dogs and 4 cats, so pet hair is an issue here. I recently bought a Bissell Healthy Home vacuum and am quite happy with it. Normally priced at around $250, I managed to find a sale and got it for $200.

And you might try this idea. Husky hair has a hollow shaft = air in the shaft equals more insulation. That type of hair is really hard to get up. Take a spray bottle and put about a tablespoon or two of liquid fabric softener in it and fill the rest with water. Give it a good shake. Then lightly mist the areas with the worst concentration of dog hair and wait about 10-15 minutes and then sweep. The fabric softener helps break the static lock of the hair. I have a lab and their hair is the same way as they need the extra insulation when they're "hunting" and retrieving in water.

Another idea, if you have a long hose on your sweeper, try grooming the dogs with it. I have gotten my lab and my german shepard mix used to being brushed with the sweeper. The hair and pet dander goes right in the sweeper instead of on your floors and furniture.

And what ever sweeper you decide on, keep the bags changed (no more that 1/2 full), keep the filters clean (check your owners manual for details and sweep every day or every couple of days.

Hi, The Kenmore progressive vacuum and the Eureka Boss smart Ultra are the two highest rated vacuums for pet hair by consumer reports. http://www.byvacuumcleaners.com/best-upright-vacuum-for-pet-hair.html They outperformed the Dyson animal for picking up pet hair. Hope this helps.
