can cats pass feline leukemia to people in any was shape or form??
i took in a cat from a guy that said he was moving and couldn’t take his cat with him. we found the cat a new home…today the people called and said he tested pos. for feline leukemia. no vet is open for me to ask and I’m not very good on the internet, finding what I’m looking for. so please if there is a vet or equally educated person..please help.. the most important thing i am worried about is my family.can they get it? i have a 4yr old who gives kisses to kitty(i know its gross and try to make sure he doesn’t but have missed a few I’m sure). and the kids have been scratched while playing with the cats..
also what should i do for the our own cats, now that they have been exposed(yes i am taking them all in first thing monday to be tested). like how do i clean up so it wont spread or stay in my house and on my property? help!!

NO it cannot be passed on to humans.
RE: testing your cats – It would be too early for them to be tested
No hon, this disease can not be passed to humans, however it can be passed very quickly to other cats who are not vaccinated. So if your going to keep the kitty then it will be a long list of medications just to keep the immune system up. If you decided to have the cat put down because of the medical reasons then find out for sure from your vet how long the disease lingers in your home before you can bring in another one. That I am not sure of. Best of luck to you. So no worries, you don’t have to go get vaccinated. My prayers go out to you and your baby…
Fortunately, cats cannot pass feline leukemia to people. But it sure spreads quickly to other cats who are not protected.
Good Luck!
No, it is not possible for a cat to pass this on to humans, but it can pass it on to other cats. Please make sure if you pet your cat, that you wash your hands before touching another cat outside your home…you can be a carrier via your skin (like a cold virus from touching your infected mucus and then touching another person and they touch their nose, eyes or open cut). Best thing to do is explain to the owner, you do not want to pet their pet until you wash because your cat is Leukemia Positive and you do not want to spread it to their cat. They should appreciate your concern.
No. Thats why they call it FELINE leukemia.
