how easily is it transmitted? the stray cat i have is living in a xl dog crate and my personal cat is being kept out of that room entirely but managed to run in and sniff the stray through the bars for about 3 seconds tonight.. the stray has NOT been tested yet, but i’m going to treat it as if it has feline leukemia until i know otherwise.

Feline leukemia is transmitted by prolonged close contact..years ago it was thought to be more easily contracted (i had a cat that had it 15 yrs ago)…It is from bodily fluids..using the same litter box..fighting etc…they say now that it is not even transmitted through sharing food bowls..(not that i would).
You have absolutely nothing to worry about.
I have done the same thing when i have taken in strays,,.i hope your new kitty turns out to be fine!
It’s not as easily passed as once thought. If your cat’s immune system is really low, they can be more vulnerable, but a sniff isn’t likely to transmit anything.
