A few years ago (2009) I lost my job and ended up defaulting on 3 credit cards, a phone bill, and medical bills (because I lost my health insurance and couldn’t afford to buy my own policy). I paid on them all for as long as I could while I looked for a job, but my savings ran out and I couldn’t pay on them anymore.
The Credit Cards have all been charged off as bad debit, as well as the phone bill, and the medical bills are in collections.
I have a new job, one that pays me pretty well, and I can afford to start paying off this debt, but I can’t pay it off in lump sums. The credit cards equal about 00 all together, the phone bill is 00 and the medical bills are about 00. I have other bills that need to be paid (rent, car payment/insurance, gas, phone, and dog expenses) as well, leaving me a couple hundred dollars each month to pay off this debt.
What is a good option for me to go with? I don’t want to go with one of those scam companies that I’m always hearing about. Would it be possible for me to get a loan to consolidate these debts into one and pay on it monthly? Is that even a good idea?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Also, while getting a second job would be a good way to bring in more income, I already work 60+ hours a week, so a second job is not possible.
