My cat is sneezing. Any idea how to home cure this? Side-bar: what is the best insurance for senior cats taht include infectious illness.
The sneezing is not constant – but it is often. He has a little bit of kitty boogers coming out.

I once had a cat who did that, my Mum looked up her nose and there was grass up there, she pulled it out and it was like 20 cm long! She must of got it from when she eats grass to get rid of her furballs (which all cats do). Maybe your cat has that problem, maybe he’s allergic to something or has a bit of a cold.
When you dont’ know why an animal is sneezing, guessing and playing with meds is not a great idea. Sneezing can be many simple things but it can also be a sign of many very serious things. Please, get your cat to the vet for a proper diagnosis.
i gave my cat a little benadryl & he stopped sneezing!
Hello Dogs & Cats catch human colds. Has anyone in your family brought home a cold from school and/or work. If so this is the answer. Another answer would be since your cat is up in years he/she may have developed an allergy to certain things.
It sounds like an upper respiratory infection. Most of the time these are viral, but they are often accompanied by secondary bacterial infections. If he’s sneezing boogers, he needs to be seen by the vet. They’ll prescribe antibiotics to treat anything bacterial that’s going on and may also provide an anti-viral to help boost his immune system to fight off the viral infection.
I’m not too familiar with any of the pet insurance plans, sorry. I have a Care Credit account that I use at the vet’s office in a pinch. It can be used for medical, dental, vision or veterinary expenses and can be paid over a period of time without interest. If I have a big expense at the vet, I charge it to the Care Credit with a 6 month term, so there’s no interest and I have 6 months to pay the balance. I know you can have a 3 month term as well, but I’m not sure whether you can go more than 6 months without interest. If you go beyond the allotted time, there is an interest charge so it’s important to pay it off on time. It’s worked great for me when I’ve had unexpected expenses.
ETA: Cats DO NOT catch colds from humans, and humans don’t catch colds from cats. Infections like that are not communicable between the two species.
take it to a vet but perhaps there is nothing that can be done
Hi there… cats can develop upper respiratory infections (URI) which are viral, but they require antibiotics specifically made for secondary infections associated with URI. The antibiotic prescribed is based on a cats weight, age and overall health. Left untreated URI can become life-threatening especially with a senior cat.
Insurance for senior cats will be a challenge, because nearly all companies will not provide coverage for an animal with a pre-existing condition as well as age. Consider ringing multiple companies and ask them about their policy coverage limits. If they cannot provide coverage, ask them if they know who can.

This cat needs a vet. Any time there is discharge from the nose, ESPECIALLY if it is colored, needs a vet to check it out. It may be a virus, or it could be something more serious. Only a vet can tell.
I agree, he needs to go to the vet…and get some antibiotics if necessary. When there are boogers, he needs attention.
Has he been vacinated for cat flu? If not, that needs to be taken care of. You dont want him getting the cat flu.
My cat gets sneezy very easily, just a little bit of stress brings it on for him. It can either get worse, or better….the vet suggested I keep him on a supplement (Ly-sine), (which is actually a natural medicine for treatment of human cold sores)…I give him one a day when hes sneezy…and 1/10-1/4 of a tablet when hes fine (just as maintainance)…increased whenever stressful times are approaching and hopefully colds/sneezes etc will be kept at bay. That seems to work.
