Horse accident yesterday….?
So the CCBR held one of their local shows, just kind of like a fun thing for everyone, it’s mostly a training show. I’ve been working with 2 horses for a friend of mine, one of them a crazy app gelding, and the other a racking horse mare, both are all around pleasure/barrel/pole horses.
So I was on Chessy (the barrel mare) at the show yesterday. She’s a great laid back kids horse on the trails and everything but when she gets to the show she’s all business and THEN some (like most barrel horses). So the entrance to the arena is kinda funky since they normally use it as a holding pen for roping horses. You have to ride under a gate and there’s stock paneling on either side…It looks like this only 2x wider and the metal pins/pin slots that hold the gate were much larger: http://www.fleenorgates.com/horse_bow_gate2.JPG
I know I’m rambling but I’m trying to be descriptive
Anyways I was next and I wasn’t three feet from charging through the gate and these 2 little kids ran RIGHT in front of her with fistfuls of grass to feed some mini pony colt tied up on the other side. The adrenaline was pumping then so I can’t remember what happened to a T but as soon as those kids were inches out of her way, she skittered to the left and lunged for the gate.
The way they have it rigged, there are empty pin hole slots jutting out on the sides to shut the gate closed (real safe, right?). Looks just like this, just no pin in it till the gates closed: http://www.fleenorgates.com/P-style_Drop-pin_hookup.JPG
Well I got my left knee slammed into it and it dragged all the way across from just under my inner knee cap, and it goes gradually downward to the other side of my knee. Naturally, I lost my stirrup and the loud bang from my knee/the impact panicked her. She ran hard as she could down to the end of that arena (it was a speed barrel class, run up, turn one barrel at the end of the arena, run back), and I had lost my balance and couldn’t pick my stirrup up, couldn’t stop her, so I ran for the corner of the arena where she would HAVE to stop and at the last minute she zagged to the left and I came off. So freakin embarrassing!!
So everybody like freaked out. I know I had to have looked stupid to everyone on the sides, just running like hellfire out of control down to the end of the arena, past the barrel, and then just falling off the side of the saddle hahaha. So the paramedic said it wasn’t broken or anything so I just hobbled around the rest of the day (it was my first class of the day haha). It hurt like hell but I got up on the pokier more geriatric horse and did the texas barrel pattern at a jog/WP lope LOL.
But now it’s ballooned up in the inside under my knee cap and I’m REALLY squeemish about my knees (past problems with popping/sliding/roaming knee caps) so I just about die when I have to bend it and stretch it out a little or even move for that matter. The pressure on my knee cap is like ughhh it doesn’t hurt but it just makes me sick and it’s SO intense. I know it will hurt tomorrow. I’m nauseous just typing this. I don’t have insurance, unfortunately, I already had to go to the ER and get 6 stitches 3 weeks ago, my dog was just diagnosed with heartworms so that’s about 0-800 there, and I simply can’t afford another bill. What can I do besides R.I.C.E and ibuprofen? I’m pretty sure I just dinged it really really hard but I need some advice here!

You had better have that knee looked at. You may have torn ligamints of damaged knee. For the pain to be so intense now it may be infected so don’t wait. See a doctor. Worry about money later.
At first, you may collect as much information as you can by inputing the relevant keywords in search engine,if you get good luck there ,then your problem is solved.nevertheless,if you could not find the ideal answer for your question by doing that, here

is the resource i suggest.
You can’t go wrong with R.I.C.E. and ibuprofen. Elevate the leg (I mean HIGH) and keep ice on it as long as it is swelling. It’ll be longer than 24 hours, but the knee is a complicated joint, so it will take longer. Put heat under the back of your knee for half an hour starting tomorrow while ice is on the top, but the rest of the time you need to be only icing.
Keep the leg mostly straight for the next 3 weeks or so; don’t push the bending at this point. Ace wrapping from ankle to thigh is the best compression to use. Most people only wrap a couple of inches above and below the knee, and all that does is compress the structures and cause more problems. Wrap the muscles that run the knee, so start high up your thigh, and go all the way down to your ankle. I know it is a pain to do, and hard to wear pants over it, but it is the best way to help it.
Ask around, somebody probably has one of those ice water circulation things either for people or the Race Ready one that is for horses. If you can get one of those, it will make things so much easier. While you are asking, see if anyone has one of those Professional’s Choice knee wraps/braces. They are about the best there are out there, but pricey. (still less than one you would get from a doctor, and much more comfortable to wear!)
Knees are tough to get over, and the paramedic may or may not have called the right answer, but an ER doc won’t be able to do anything more than the above anyway for the next 2-3 weeks. If in 6 weeks, it’s still bothering you, then go to a specialist (ER only does blood and breaks, they don’t do differential diagnosis well) and you should save your money for that if need be. It is likely to keep swelling on and off for at least that long, so it will need to be wrapped and iced for that long too.
You’re not going to cause more damage by waiting and doing the first 6 weeks on your own. Give it time.
