i got thrown from someone's crazy horse on thier property and was badly injured what should i do?
hi, i am 20 years old and i have been training and riding horses since i was realy young. now, this lady called me over through word of mouth that i could probably break her crazy horse. i went over there a few times and the horse seemed really willing, well after the 4th time i went over, i tried getting on the horse( i knew she had thrown people off before) i got taken off with and the horse reared up and fell on me, causing significant back damage and i was rushed to the er. well after 3 days in the hospital, surgeries, and pain, i am faced with 45,000 dollars in medical bills, now i dont have insurance and i dont want to take advantage of tax payers by havingthe hospital write it off for me…but some people mentioned that the woman’s home insurance will cover this? i dont want to sue her because i know it was not her fault…and ive tried calling her but she doesnt return any phone calls..
i just need some help. the lady seemed really nice and i dont want to be malicious, but i was wondering if there is any suggestions..
yeah i know its my fault.

Why would you attempt to do that, knowing the horses past? The kicker is knowing there was a high probability you could be hurt, you willingly did it anyway and without insurance. I don’t think there is much you can do. It stinks you were injured but you did put yourself in that situation.
Send someone over there to ask about the insurance situation, but it is possible that she doesn’t have any insurance at all.
You could technically argue liability. I mean you do have some points against you, but you could probably win a settlement. That is, of course, if you are willing to say that this is not your fault, which it is.
If you don’t want to take the old woman’s money you will have to work out payment plan with the hospital
You knew the risks, just let the state pay,its what they’re for.
Ignore the advice you are getting here and go get a GOOD lawyer as you are going to need one. You were injured on her property and she should have insurance to cover it. Unless there were signs that said that you were riding at your own risk, you probably will win in court (and even if there were signs, you could still will) and that is why she is avoiding her. By the way, "nice" is meaningless (I am sure that Adolph Hitler’s grandma thought he was a nice boy) so do yourself a favor and ignore her "niceness" and get yourself a lawyer!
Did she have any Equine Liability signs posted on her property? Because, really it is ride at your own risk and if she has signs posted you may not even be able to get her insurance to cover it. You knew that it was a green horse and decided to take on the responsibility of getting on it yourself.
Legally, I would say you need to talk to a lawyer.
Ethically, pay the bill, you knew what you were getting into.
I suggest negotiating a lower price with the hospital, and then a payment plan. Suing anyone else for an injury that occurred while doing what you knew to be a risky behavior is not right.
She is no doubt fearful that an attorney will get involved.
Amazingly in other countries the idea of liability insurance isn’t even an issue. In New Zealand, homeowner liability insurance is rare, if ever purchased. Why? Because people aren’t looking for the big score, and attorneys don’t advertise "If you were injured…."
US Attorneys are the scum of the earth, especially the ones who create class action lawsuits, and the attorneys get 40% and each member of the class gets maybe .005% of the settlement.
Personal Injury lawyers are at the bottom of the scum bucket, and the rest are not much better.
If YOU take risks, YOU should have insurance. Do you?
