Is it really fare to expect healthy people pay for everyone else’s health expenses?
Aside from actual costs to manage a medical facility, the invention of insurance has generated additional costs that have nothing to do with treating or preventing illness/childbirth.
Health care fees has become grossly inflated with expenses that have nothing to do with actual health: Cost of insurance coverage added to salaries and our taxes to cover national leaders completely: salaries and benefit packages for non-medical CEO and CFO’s and other personnel such as employees that specialize in filling out medical forms, applying for benefits, filing all the information, collections of payments; insurance company pays for fraud investigators, employees to find technicalities to not pay benefits, their CEO and CFO and all other employees.
My elderly dog needed jaw surgery: half was removed and it was wired. She stayed at the clinic getting IV fluid and medications for four days. Her bill was 5 (including tax and medications brought home). Had this been my mom, the hospital would be investigating the possibility of getting her home somehow in addition to charging her insurance, and any others she is eligible for them to sign up for, charging initially more than ,000.00.
If 0,000 was applied to the one that earns it only with interest over a life time, if that person became ill, yes they would afford a lower (not inflated) health care out of pocket. And my dog gums it- she eats steak with no problem.
Mark: non drivers may not drive but they stil use transportation which is on the road. Also, use is not limited as it is with health care where our leaders give themselves unlimited heath benefits leaving those paying taxes without access to care while paying for thier unlimited care.

Yes
Is it fair for non drivers to pay for the nations highways.
Is it fair for people in one part of the country to pay for natural disasters in another part of the country
Is it fair for single people without children to pay for education for others
We pay for people who aren’t insured all ready. Lost wages and SSI are two examples off of the top of my head.
Nobody is healthy forever. One of these days, you will be old and infirm in a nursing home and your assets will have run out, and your care will be picked up by the taxes of the younger generation. What goes around comes around.
How does your dog eat now? Liquids?
Usually healthy people choose to have a restricted health policy that costs less. So they do help pay these additional costs, but pay less than the people that have a more expansive policy. It is how it has always been, the insurance company adds the expenses to everyones policy, just depends on what policy they choose.
The entire rationale (justification) for insurance is that those who don’t need it at a given moment — for example, the young who have no call for arthritis medication — pay into a fund that is then tapped by those who do need it. Auto insurance is a good case in point: you pay all those years and, if you’re lucky, never have an accident. But if you do suffer a collision, others pay for the costs of repair just as you had done during the time you were accident-free. Medical insurance, which in the case of Medicare is paid through taxation, operates under the same principle. Some people choose to be "self-insured"; that is, rather than pay insurance premiums they keep a certain amount of money in reserve in case of necessity. While this may work for, say, dental care if you have sound teeth, it’s not advisable for hospitalization given the ever-rising cost of medical care…
Ask the Canadians, British, French, Germans, Spanish, Portuguese, and all the other Europeans. They all have had working public health systems for decades without becoming bankrupted socialist states, as the HMOs and pharmaceutical companies suggested.
Further, it costs less to do it the public way, since the profit element is removed. It costs us all less. With the elimination of the insurance tricksters the bogus denials will be gone, as well, and the vast majority of us will get treatment in time for it to work.
This is not different than using tax dollars to set up a collective education system, or a collective legal system. If it is fair to expect us to pay for a military we might never need, or police who might never have to protect us personally, then it is equally fair to protect our access to timely health care.
When even the Cubans can do it, we must assume that we can as well.
No its not fair. But instead of people asking why are cost so high and looking at to what the government has done to cause cost to be so high such as the FDA taking almost 10 years for a drug to get approved and close to $1billon dollars. Or how employer provided health care came about due to wage controls during world war 2. People just want to make government bigger and more powerful and they don’t care if other people have to foot the bill.
State planned health care has failed all over the world and are now moving back to the privet sector but for some reason we don’t want to learn the lessons of history and want to try it our selves.
The fact is that we all have different priorities and no one can tell me how to best spend my money other than myself.
If we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion. -Hayek
Yes it is fair, because you live in America and we are supposed to support the common good. Sorry to burst your bubble.
It is good that we live in a free society, but we need to keep in mind that buying medical insurance is not for when you get ill is for should you get ill and the healthy people are part of the total make up of the risk that is what helps to stabilize monthly premiums.
As for costs rising prices seem to go up on all kinds of services and goods take oil for example which directly effects the prices of many other goods and services.
Probably it would be good to have people better educated to be responsible.
comment: your vet charges are much lower than anything I remember and sometimes as far as meds were concerned my local pharmacy was less expensive than the vet.
Sin taxes will pay mostly for unhealthy Americans…especially since they are the ones damaging there health with cigs and alcohol. Though I’m Conservative I feel those of us whom work and contribute to the system of welfare SHOULD have easier access to it when we ourselves fall on hard times. Currently the system makes it easy to stay poor and if you suddenly fall on financial hard times it is next to impossible to receive government help unless you are reduced to an almost permanent poverty level. We need hand ups….not hand outs.
nah. people live in utopia.
Look at how Jamestown went under that kind of system.
It does not matter if it is fair. It sounds good to the masses, lines the pockets of the socialist politicians and gives them power. That is what it is about.
