Keeping cats separate and cat vaccinations?
I have an adult male cat that is indoor, and recently I took in a younger female cat that snuck into our apartment building. She is not a stay, but was abandon by previous tenants. I kept the younger cat at my parents so she could be checked out by the vet, and she is clean from diseases and in good condition. The only problem is that she is pregnant and cannot have cat vaccinations until much later. My current cat had his annual shots in May of 2007, should I keep them apart since I am late in getting his again? I will be getting them shortly. The currently have separate litter boxes and food dishes (It has been a challenge to keep them apart) but a few times they have touched noses and patted around. When can I eventually combine, or leave them together in the same room and not worry about food dishes and potty boxes. I have had her about 2 weeks now too if that helps.

they will be fine together.so long as your cat has had it’s vaccinations there’s nothing to worry about.
Hey there, Looks to me that you have done the right thing by taking her to the vet and getting her checked out. If she is free of all diseases as you stated and your male cat is up to date on his shots I don’t see any problem with letting them be together. I have taken in many a stray and done what you have done and all are well. Its so nice to know that there are others out there that care I just don’t understand how people can discard their pets, thanks for taking her in.
The only thing trasnferable would likely be internal parasites–so separate litter boxes until a worming check can be done is a good idea.
The easiest ‘disase’ to pass is FeLV, but a quick blood test can set your mind at rest about that. It takes 15 minutes with the Elisha test at the doctor’s office.
FIV is not transferable without deep bite wounds. And she likely does not have FIP if she’s looking and acting healthy. Check for ear mites, ringworm, internal parasites and fleas. If all those are ok, then go ahead and mix them.
been in the same situation! no you dont have to keep them apart.
A gray cat came into our lifes pregnant and it looked like she was caught on fire.! and my dad let her in not realizing she was pregnant and she ended up having 5 cats. but we already owned 2 cats roxy and binx. once she had her kittens and they could be winged we kicked her out and gave her kittens away one day we came home she chewed through our window screen and let herself in and had 8 more kittens. we finally kept her cause she only trusted us. and we figured she was coming to us for a reason. so now we have roxy, binx momma and one of her babies trixie. but my point is if she’s healthy you dont have to sperate them cause one doesnt have their shots
