list of cat breeders?
i am on my friends account again i was wondering why i see so very few registered purebred felines but loads of dogs?
most cats are just picked up off the road here.
is their a listing of cat breeders in TX? i lost a cat recently of old age and have some ideas but i want to see what breeds are available to me.
i didnt find any of the breeds i liked in the shelter and most were feral when i went to look. (as i said most are dumped then picked up by the road) i dont want a feral cat
so is their a listing of cat breeders in TX? (i tried google but couldnt find it) where would i look for a breeder of purebred cats?
i also like the idea of buying a purebred from a reputable breeder because then i can know the health a little better rather than picking up a cat off the road like my last one and having it die of a hereditary defect.
do not judge or you will be reported
i said that wrong originally i had two cats the one with the defect died before the other which died of old age. they were two fixed females

Get on the CFA site because they list the breeders there. Also you can type in each purebred breed by itself in the search engine and just type in for example… Himalayan Cat Breeders and even fine tune that to be in a certain state… like… in Texas. The web will bring all of them up for you. Also the TICA site is great if you want to see some of the Exotic Cat breeders. Some of them for your info to brouse the web are.. Chausie, Savannah, Pixibob, Serengeti, Bengal, Abbisinnian (sp) and there are quite a few others too that will pop up as well. You can see the exotics if you just type in Exotic Lookalike Breeds in the search engine. I hope that helps.
If you knew which breed you wanted, it would make your search easier.
Most people just want "a cat". There is far less demand for purebred cats than purebred dogs. There are still BYB’s and kitten mills so be alert. The best way to find a good breeder is to go to cat shows. CFA has a list but they don’t guarantee that none of them are mills. It’s best to go by actually meeting the breeder and asking for references from people who’ve bought cats from them. Here’s their website. You can also get info on cat show schedules there too.

I would agree with going onto the CFA websites. I recommend ragdoll cats
I have one and I absolutely adore her, she is amazingly soft and well-behaved! Very loving too, likes to sleep near my head.
Get a Siamese they are beautiful and have dog personalitys
Or other great breeds
Birman
ragdoll
maybe a Persian
Good breeders make sure that they don’t breed genetic defects into their cats, and screen for known issues (like PKD in Persians). They also provide you with a health guarantee! These are people who breed to improve the breed, and not to make a quick buck at the expense of the cats. You can do breed searches on both the CFA and TICA web sites:

Unlike dogs, most (over 90%) of cats aren’t a particular breed or even a mix of breeds. They are the cat that Nature created – domestic short hair/long hair. Most popular breed though have their own breed-specific rescue groups. They do a pretty good job of determining what cats they see in shelters are most likely their breed, or just a look-alike. While rescue offers no guarantees, you do get the satisfaction of knowing you gave a deserving animal a needed home, and get the breed you admire as well.

Pick a breed.
Cats were domesticated thousands of years ago and breeds only established in the last hundred or so years. Over 97% of cats aren’t any breed at all – they’re simply "domestics" with no breeds in their history whatsoever. You won’t find specific breeds of kittens at shelters but occasionally adult cats of specific breeds do show up. I have three all adopted between 2 1/2 to 4 years old – a Persian, an Exotic Shorthair and a Ragamuffin.
Breeders also tend to sell kittens altered so people don’t just randomly breed and crossbreed their cats. So unlike dogs – where you see lots of mixes – you just don’t with cats.
There are LOTS of registered, pedigreed cats but people that own them don’t let them roam the streets. Pedigreed cats START at about $600 for pet quality and into the thousands for show quality. One of my friends has some of the top Persians in the world and kittens from last year’s litter sold at as much as $6,000!
TICA (The International Cat Association), CFA (Cat Fanciers of America) and ACFA (American Cat Fanciers Association) all have links on their sites to breeders registered with them. Here’s TICA’s – http://tica.org/public/breeders.php Other than that in the States you really don’t want to buy a cat from someone listing other registries. There’s several bogus ones – including the NAPCR – that let you registry a cat with nothing other than what you say its breed is. Real registries ask for a multi-generational pedigree.
A great way to see a lot of the different breeds, meet the cats, owner and breeders is to go to a cat show. Most breeders and owners are happy to answer any questions you have about the breed. Here’s TICA schedule – http://ticamembers.org/calendar/ Not sure how far you are from Waco, TX but there’s a show in Feb there. There’s one in Houston in Mar and San Antonio in Apr.
Note, though, that just because a cat has a pedigree doesn’t mean it can’t end up with hereditary defects. So don’t turn away from adopting domestics just because you think they’ll all be sickly – you couldn’t be further from the truth.
