My dog got lyme disease when we were up in the delaware water gap. We brought her to the vet and they gave us antibiotics. It has been about a week, and every other day ahe can barely walk. I can’t bring her on hikes anymore, and I’m really worried. She is taking the medicine for another 5 weeks. Do I just need to wate it out. She is an 8 year old labrador.

friends credit the Tick-L group list for saving the life of there Lyme stricken dog (their vet was too conservative with the antibiotics) – at her worst she could not STAND – she’s now 13 and participated in the sr vets fun run at the whippet national last month.
If there is no improvement after this past week I think checking with them would not be a bad idea- Sprite showed improvement in DAYS once she got on the right dose….
I think this is it:

she should get better soon if u keep her on medication
but if she doesnt take her back to tha vet
but dont worry she will get better
lyme diesease affects the joints and causes swelling and pain just like arthritis and there will be good days and bad. the meds should help but she might always have the illness since it is hard to get rid of. keep her away from stairs and jumping and apply warm wet towels on her joints for a good 10 minutes to soothe them then gently do little circle massages all over her hips and back and joints to get the fluids flowing.do this every day and just take her for short walks when she is up to it.when the meds are done u can give her asperin in the am and pm to help any inflamation in the joints and give the asa when needed which is usuerally 1 per 40 lbs of weight but i would only use 2 a day since it can cause stomach problems, then just 1 when she is having pain. hopefully after the meds are fininished she will improve and with these methods she might start feeling better. feed her cooked hamb or lean chichen with veggis and a scrambled egg for protien every 3 or 4 days and u can also give her vitamin b complex daily along with oyster pills to build up her immune system.i hope she improves and try this before u make any other decisions and give the meds and treatments time to work. good luck
if you catch it soon enough she will be fine otherwise she could be left with lasting bone problems or possibly a premature death
