Firstly, I don’t think that they cover flea medication as that is preventative and insurance is typically for treatment of illness or accident.
Secondly, I would recommend checking out some review sites before going with VPI. http://ripoffreport.com/ and search for pet insurance, or Pet Insurance Review (http://petinsurancereview.com/reviewStar… are both third party sites so you can see what real people think of the companies.
Personally, I like Trupanion. I have my dog insured through them and I think they are great. They don’t have any claim limits, so if you got an $8,000 bill, it would be covered. They don’t penalize you for filing claims and you can choose your own deductible amount, anywhere from $0 to $1000.
It’s worth doing a little more research, definitely check out all those sites!
I don’t know this one as I am UK, but check whether the policy covers a condition for life or only for one year.
Make sure you get the "life" type of cover.
What that means is that say a dog had diabetes, well some policies will only cover the condition for 1 yr. and therefore all medication after that the person would have to pay for.
"Life" means just that and the condition would be covered by the insurance forever.
They have a chart that shows you what u get…i believe 50 or 100 dollars per year for flea OR heartworm pills.
You have to be careful with the ins companies as what they consider a reasonable cost for a procedure may be much less than the actual charge from your vet.
I would ask them where u can find a sheet with what they cover money wise and then pick a few and call ur vet and see what the actual costs are.
I know the insurance is not cheap…my dog only has EMERGENCY insurance that covers if she is poisioned or stung, bit, brakes a leg or has to have surgery for ingesting an item…i only pay 12.00 a month. I do not think that the 45.00 a month insurance is worth it based on past experiences with my dogs and once she is out of her puppy chewing phase i will probably cancel the one i have.
Hope to help
I have insurance on my dogs and it covers yearly routine check ups, emergency surgery, but no sorry it don’t cover flea medicine you need to pay for that
