dog tags/license/rabies?

I have a 5 month old mini pinscher. We got her rabies tags today (her first rabies shot) so she has that tag. Does we need a dog license as well??? What other tags do we need? Does she need to carry all her tags on her collar/harness??

also:

I researched about vaccinations & all that, & i know that even with the new vaccination protocol, some vets still insist on yearly vaccs even though this has proven to be harmful to animals. I gathered a lot of info about vaccs & came up with this:
a dog should get its combo series 3 times in its puppy years..
then again when its 1 years old
then every 3 years from then.

a dog should get its rabies 4-6 months 1 time
then again 1 year later
& then every 3 years later from then.

& a dog should get its bordatella in a series as a puppy
then every year.

is this all correct? id love to hear all your opinions & how you vaccinate your dogs. thanks so much.
I live in Brooklyn, New York. & for the 6th poster: parvo is included in the combo shots (combo=dhlpp)

I know they get stressed when traveling, but I really need to bring her with me either in the cargo or cabin if its allowed. She has EU pet passport, all the vaccinations, microchip, etc. I heard that you can travel with animals in AirFrance, could anyone please confirm this and give me some other airline companies where I can compare prices?
Thank you

Where I live my city requires that we license our dogs once a year. Any intact dog is /year, any nutered/spayed dog is /year.

Loads of people I know refuse to license their dogs… why is that? I asked the shelter people what was so important about licensing and they said it was used as a way to make sure people are keeping up with their animal’s vaccinations AND to make sure people are not exceeding their alotted ratio of pets (we’re allowed 3 cats and 2 dogs per address. The most important thing they said was that if my dogs ever got accused of biting whether it be on the street or on my property, I wouldn’t have to scramble to find their rabies records because it’s all on file with the city.

I guess my question is — why wouldn’t you license your pet? How often / how much is your licensing?

My dogs wear 3 id’s on their collars - ID tag, License & Avid ID.
In so far as what do they do about too many pets, they simply won’t adopt out anymore animals to you if you’ve exceeded your maximum.

I’m relying much more on the Avid (microchip) to return the girls home should they ever be lost.

The shelter also told me that if the girls ever bite OUTSIDE our city, they won’t have to be taken to a strange shelter, they would be returned home right away.

I see no reason not to license, just wondering why some people are against it. I see no ‘con’s.

Do they have any advantage over fancy mice and rats, as far as illnesses and lifespan, or would it be reasonably logical to buy two live feed mice as pets, instead of fancy mice?

My cousin wants two pet mice, and I’m trying to help him and his Mother gather information. (We all know that she’ll end up taking care of them, anyway.) I am unable to find much about price range for feed mice (or fancy mice) online (Outside of independent retailers and independent breeders. I’m thinking more petco/petsmart, as to where the mice will be purchased.), and can’t find anywhere locally to check prices, so that information is vital.

Thanks in advance.
We were considering a rat, but he’s afraid of animals bigger than his feet. I’m not quite sure why. Plus, it would become lonely, so his mother would have to buy two, and then she’d have to buy a bigger cage, and with limited funds, it wouldn’t be a very logical decision on a financial level. It’ll also be his first pet(s), so we want to find something he can love for awhile, become attatched to, and start to understand death as much as his mind lets him once it passes. Thank you both (excluding the moron who posted before you two, of course.) for answering honestly.

Any legal issues with providing pet vaccines?

In my area there is an over abundance of dogs, cats and other family pets and many are unwilling to adopt animals who have not had certain types of medical care and these animals end up in a lot of bad places. I had an accidental litter awhile back, when I adopted my dog they gave me a nice little spay certificate, although it would have been nicer if she had actually been spayed. Not intending to have puppies I never worried about the cost of vaccinating a litter of twelve. The pups came and I didn’t have the funds in order to take them to the vet. Veterinary offices wanted anywhere from forty to fifty dollars per pup just for the office call plus the cost of the vaccine. I couldn’t stand to see my pups go without proper vaccinations so I contacted a veterinary assistant who met through a friend of mine when I lived back east. She told me what I needed, where to get it and then showed me the proper way to administer the shot. I vaccinated all my pups myself which would have cost over six hundred dollars at the vets office for only one hundred and thirty dollars. I did their first two doses and left it up to the adoptive parents to do the third an final dose with the option of brining the pup back for me to do it at a cost of ten dollars rather then seventy. I would like to see all animals receive the proper vaccinations but some people just can not do it at the rate the vets charge and others are just to unsure to give the shots themselves. What I want to know is… Are there any legal reasons I couldn’t offer a service by obtaining these vaccinations and then administer the shot for those who are looking to have their pups vaccinated at an affordable rate. All I would charge is the cost of the shot and the cost of travel inorder to get to their location. I can’t see it being an issue since it’s not a prescription medication and I would make sure to have a consent form stating terms, conditions, and the rare possibility of a bad reaction. Which also included the fact that I am not a veterinary tech nor have I had professional training. This may help with finding more people willing to be responsible pet owners and prevent some of the bad things that can happen when people are forced to give pups away without an adoption fee because they lack this initial care.
For the record… I am NOT doing this, I am asking if it’s possible. It would be the same as me asking you to come over to my house an give me a Tylenol and saying I’ll give you the money for the Tylenol and pay for your gas. It’s not a prescription medication and it’s perfectly legal for me to do it to my own pets. I think the reason that a Vet tech. could get in legal trouble for it is because they have the licence or training making it an undocumented practice and it’s more then likely forbidden by their employer since it takes away business.
I would not be charging for the service. Just the cost of the shot and the transportation if it is needed.

Shes 8 weeks old… only has her first shots. Is it safe to start introducing her to other pets… I have a bunny but im not sure if shes safe to go near its cage. I know it’s not a good idea to let them near other dogs but what about other animals such as cats, bunnies, ferrets etc?

Im not worried about the whole temperament issue, im worried about spreading disease that the pup isn’t immune to, yet.

I am 28 yrs old and want to start college to become a veterinarian. I’ve always liked taking care of animals but for financial/personal reasons was never able to go to college. Can you let me know what you think? Should I just discard that idea or should I go for it? Please save unnecessary(rude) comments for they won’t be helpful. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Do I need some sort of license to dog-walk?

I’m 13 and I need to start working to save up if I want to go to college, I’m already doing a paper round, but since it doesn’t pay much I’ve decided to start dog walking.
I’m only working around my town, no-where far, and I live near a park where it would be nice to take them.
But I was wondering if I need to have some sort of official certificate, I love animals, and I know how to take care of a dog (I used to have one) Thank you! ^^

I'm pregnant and have a pet bird?

I don’t know which section to post this is… I’ll start with the pet section….
We have a cockatoo (4 years old). He is up to date on all of his shots and vaccinations. He is never around other animals. Is there anything I need to be concerned about - illnessesI could get from him (they produce a lot of powder), cage cleaning (we clean up after him daily, as he’s "loose" in the house all over his perches and indoor trees)…

I am getting annoyed with the increasing number of people who are carting their animals to work, stores, restaurants and hotels. These are not guide dogs or working dogs I am referrig to but rather the pesky toy dogs that are now a fashion trend. They are not cute no matter how many accessories you put on them. The sanctions against smoking in public places need to also exist for pets.

I have a cat, a dog, a rabbit, a ferret and a hamster.

I live between Kobe and Osaka. My Japanese isn’t very good and I want to find a good English speaking veterinary hospital or clinic near me.

I love my pets and I really want to find someone who really cares about animals.

Can anyone recommend a good veterinarian?

I am trying to find a part time job I already work with animals (Boarding and daycare facility) but want to go into the career field of becoming a veterinarian. Are there any vet clinics that would hire me as a regular worker until I at least get my vet tech license?

I know of Banfield, and I know they will pay for your school but what about other places?

Is there a statute of limitation on pet custody?

My ex girfriend moved out in november. She left in my possession two labs that we had raised together for 2 years. When we were working on our breakup and she agreed to leave my house she asked what about the dogs. I gave her the option of taking them only in the event that she would be able to take care of them herself. I told her if she left them with me I would take care of them and I would pay off any debt owed on them at the vet. She was officially out as of November 30. She came back to pick up a few items that she needed help with about a week later during this whole time I was in possession of the dogs. After a couple of weeks I paid off their vet bill and took them to have their vaccinations which were a year over due. She called on January the 17th to tell me she was coming to get them. I advised her that per our agreement in the event that she left them with me I would provide care for them and they would stay with me she is threatening to take me to court.
Thanks for the input. No the dogs were not registered because they are mixed. I called the humane society to see if they knew if she has a leg to stand on. The code in which the county I live in states that an owner is anyone that harbors one or more animals for 3 consecutive days. They told me I would win. Most of her case is he said she said. My vet told me that she thinks there is a 14 day statute of limitations and then it becomes abandonment. As of today I have roughly a 800 dollar paper trail. If I dont get a supeana within the next 30 days then ill know she didnt file with the court.
