I’m getting a new purebred,8 week old German Shepherd puppy, and i’ve been doing my research on dog training, health problems, etc. And I’ve noticed that a lot of ads include German Shepherd hip displacia, and in some cases owners pets have died from it. I was wondering if anyone knew any ways to help prevent it, I am planning to get this puppy to be fully trained and extremely healthy. ( Her name is Lily, and we get to bring her home February 13th, 2011)
Is there a site dedicated to uploading dog training videos? A site just for that not everything like youtube one everyone can upload an d watch dog training videos.
I have a wire haired daschund and we will be taking it to dog training courses. What age is best for us to start taking it to courses?
I have a 12 week old female english bull terrier and we’re trying to get a head start by training her at home. She’s enrolled in a wonderful private dog training facility but she doesn’t start until she’s 16wo. She’s very food motivated but I feed her high quality dog food (taste of the wild bison), and I don’t want to just give her any old treat.
What are some brand names of high quality treats that are easy to give to puppies when training?
TIA
I am looking into ABC (Animal Behavior College) to study dog training. I was wondering if I can specialize in training puppies and therapy dogs? Is there a demand for this?
I’m trying to buy a good dog training book so I can train my dog at home. There are so many I don’t know which ones would be the best to get. So if you’ve ever used a dog training book, let me know what you thought about it.
I’m on a question roll tonight apparently!
I would like to get a personalized plate for my Jeep. In Alaska we can have up to six characters… XXXXXX, XXX123, etc.
Several Members of the dog training center I am at have personalized plates, I think they are fun and it’s easy to distinguish who is who, hahahaha.
Some of them are:
4MYK9
SHELTI
SHLTIE
ROTTIE
I have Australian Shepherds, Im hoping to get one that is themed around them.. The best one I have been suggested was AUSHEP.
I love AUSSIE but I’d hate for people to think I meant Australia
And no hahaha you’re right, it’s a hard one to find a good abbreviation for
[reposted, gave MamaBas BA on the last one]
In Alaska we can have 6 (six) characters for our personalized license plates.
XXX XXX
A lot of people at my dog training classes have personalized plates such as:
4MYK9
SHELTI
SHLTES
ROTTY
LABS
MUTTZ
I want a breed one, but I have Australian Shepherds, and I cant think of a way to fit that in as a dog plate- I dont want people to think Aussie as in Australian!
I am up for any dog ideas, either for Aussies, dog showing, etc.
My only ideas so far are:
OZZYK9
SHWDOG

Do you need a license to train basic dog obedience skills in Utah? I’m 14 and I love, i mean I absolutely LOVE, to work with dogs and train them.
Thing is, I want to earn money to adopt this dog, she herself is free but my parents don’t have the money but say if they did we would take her in. I need a way to earn money and dog training popped into my head at once.
The only problem is:
Do I need a license to teach basic dog obedience?
If so how do I get one?
If not, do you have any business names?
I need something along the lines of… Well anything that goes with training dogs. I want it to be some thing that will catch their eyes though, not just "anna’s dog obedience classes…"
I’m going to do one on one training with the dog also, so…
If you think I should not do this or I am legally, to young to achieve this, what else could I do?
I can’t walk dogs because everyone around here just lets their dogs roam loose anyways so it would make no difference.
THANK YOU =)

I’m currently 19 and a sophomore in college (just transferred to another college). I have a dog but he doesn’t live with me. I was planning on having him live with me next year.
Last night my parents told me that if I take him with me before I’m at least a Senior in college, that I better get my own place and my own health insurance. They are afraid that having a dog will close me off from some opportunities, and disallow me from having friends/lasting friendships.
I don’t even know how to react. The decision they’re really making me make is "who do you love more". It’s a no brainer, I want my dog, and he doesn’t make me choose, however I can’t manage my own health insurance, especially since I have a narrowing esophagus, and am going to need procedures to scope it out and fix it.
I know that my parents aren’t bluffing, and I already have permission from the lady currently keeping my dog that he can stay there until I take him. I just don’t know what other options I have or what I can do, and I can’t believe that my parents would use health insurance as a bargaining chip.
I’m really just looking for feedback, ideas, and any inspirational/motivational things that might help me feel better.
I plan to see how my first semester goes, and re-talk to my parents after to try to change their minds. It seems impossible right now.
Cistes: I was at a very large university, but still maintained above a C average for grades. I’m transferring to a smaller school, which is where I thrive, yet they are doubting me before I’ve even started classes there.
I Don’t Bark: I’m majoring in animal science with a minor in music. I plan to own and operate my own dog training facility, and I already have a job close to my hometown once I get out of school and am certified.
Regal Thai: I live at school, not at home. It sounded like you were saying I live at home.
i am an 18 year old i live im Michigan and i am wondering if i need a license to start a business in dog training i love working and training dogs i go to the votec in allegan and training is what i spend my time doing..
There are books, TV shows, professional trainers, veterinarians, friends, family, the internet, pet store employees, etc.. List the top 3 places you get the most of your dog training information from.
AND which source you most respect (i.e. whose advice do you actually use).
Can anyone able to suggest me some of the websites for dog training and also give me some of the tips for dog training…
