If so where and how can I get one? I am 19 years old(20 in november). I love animals and have lots of spare time as a part time college student; tips, suggestions, and advice would be great. I would like to have a small Dog walking business to make money for school and also help people who can’t walk their dogs(the elderly for example) as much as they should be walked for a cheap price. I just recently gotten dog and I have very little experience with dogs. I absolutely love my dog, but she needs obedience training. I can’t really afford training classes, so I was hoping to find a good book. Any recommendations or tips?

My one year old maltese needs some training in some areas, and I wanted to try to train him myself instead of behavior classes because they are SO expensive. What are some good books that helped you or that you know of? Also, what is a good way to socialize my dog, besides the training classes, if any? He barks and growls at other dogs and sometimes people.

I am trying to not spend a fortune on pet flea treatments and heartworm treatments for the dogs. It sucks because I have two 13 lb cats, a 46 lb dog that needs flea treatment and heartworm treatment, and a 5 lb pom/chi puppy that also needs heartworm and flea treatment, so I need somehwere that I dont have to spend a ton of money on. What site is best?
Also, what are the best brand for flea treatment? I like frontline, but what other brand is just as good.

My dogs have killed a few cats who seem to have been vaccinated. Sorry Cat owners who are my neighbors. Keep your cats out of my yard. I have a fence for a reason. But since my feral beast dogs seem to devour these pet cats who have vaccinations, does that mean that my dogs have consumed a vaccinated meat the would deter things like rabies and heart worm? Kind of like when we humans eat beef that is heavily vaccinated against diseases cows might get, like mad cow? If a cat has a rabies vaccination, shouldn’t a cat that becomes a meal for my feral beast wolf like dogs also provide a little bit of vaccination against rabies? Again sorry neighbour cat owners. My fence is really tall. It’s your cat’s fault.

We obtained another dog at pets in the park from a women about 60 or 65 who had health problems. we didnt plan on it, but this dog was so cute i had to pet it. i didnt know the dog was in need of a beetter home with people that could actually take care of her as this old women had failing health, and the puppy was and still is VERY active. so i fall in love with this dog and the women says shes up for adoption and explains her situation. we consider and our first initial thought is that our 6yr old dog wont take to this new one. and we consider it more and the women says handing me the leash ”oh, take her, walk around with her and see how you like her” so we walk around with her and by this point i have fallen in love witrh this dog, so we tell the women all this stuff and whatever and we tell her our dog may not take to her but this women shes practically begging us to take it. so we take it under the presumption that we discussed being a trial on OUR end if our dog takes to her and this women leaves in tears distraught, after more conversation and her friend with some dogs in a stroller that has A SIGN on it saying something like up for adoption on it which we didnt even notice said its for the best and all that crap. long story short, we couldnt get the papers , give any of our info, or leave money cause the women left in tears and wouldnt accept any money. so i fone 2 weeks later her saying were keeping the dog and our dog has taken to her and the women says ” umm sorry that wont be and option” so meanly and we haven’t answered her calls and we licenced the dog under us and the women wants to charge us wirth theft and has filed the dog as stolen. whe found that out when we got a call from a constable who also says that the women told her that the women was at our house to get the dog and she saw the dog get pulled away from the window and the lights go out, when we didnt give her any of our info an she practically abandons the dog with us, we don’t turn our lights on till about 10:00, their is nowhere for the dog to get up and look out the window and if she came to get the dog, and she didnt come to the house. and apparently her failing health is fixed now. we consulted with a lawyer and he thinks this women might be unstable and he says we are in the right, but i just dont know.
Also EVERYONE else asked or said that this women is or sounds crazy
also it may go to court but we would have to do mediation and my parent would have to miss work, and we would lose income and on top of that this women is insane and we cant reason with her. This women also put up a kijiji add (Its taken down now, but can still be seen) and it was 0.00! Proving that this psycho path advertised more then just the sign on the stroller

I took him to the vet who confirmed it was Kennel Cough. He gave me some Amoxicillin liquid and told me to have him rest and sleep as much as possible.

Is there anything I can do to help him beat this quicker and get better?

Personal experience anyone?

torbaynewfs – I have actually never delt with Kennel Cough the whole time I have owned dogs (23 years). I’ve heard it is very common, but I have personally never dealt with it (luckily), until now. I just wanted some feedback as to how others dealt with it. Of course I’m going to listen to the doctor (that’s why I went there!) and give him his medication but I wanted to hear personal experience from other dog/puppy owners. I don’t plan on giving him any other medication then what the doctor has prescribed, but maybe other people have a few tricks or tips on how to make the virus go away sooner or at least how to make my puppy as comfortable as he can be until he can beat this thing.

You don’t need to be rude. I’m only trying to do what’s best for my puppy so he doesn’t get something worse or deadly like pneumonia or parvo. Sheesh.

I recently took in a puppy. She is very well-behaved, very calm and loving.
However, my three-year-old dog has been used to being the only pet in the household. She is not necessarily well-behaved among other dogs, so she growls at the puppy a lot. Her overall reaction is rather unwelcoming. When the puppy approaches her, she tends to let off a growl and her tail stands stiffly up.

My question is how do I integrate my older dog to the new puppy so that she’ll accept the family addition?

I live in spain and in a need to earn money I thought I would take dogs in to stay when their owners go on holiday. i have a large fenced garden and other land to excercise the dogs on and they would sleep in the house at night. What other considerations do I need to take? I wasn´t going to have insurance ,so is it comon practise in this situation to get owners to sign a form freeing me of liability? What about vet bills if accidents happen? I wasn´t going to provide food as i feel it is important for the dogs to stay on their own diet. do i need to take a deposit up front and how do I prevent people dumping dogs on me and not coming back for them. Any help will be gratefully recieved.

I’ve been having the rescues VS breeder dilemma many people possibly have. Ideas, suggestions?…

Rescue pros:
- Save a dog who needs a home.
- Easier to get adults.
- Less expensive then a breeder chihuahua.

Rescue cons:
- Chihuahuas are in high demand in the USA, so not as many to choose from as other breeds.
- Most are short hair and I want a longhair.
- Hard to find out if a rescued chihuahua is healthy and avoiding expensive surgeries such as pateller luxation.

Breeder pros:
- Can get exactly the chihuahua I’d like.
- Health guarantee to avoid genetic problems such as pateller luxation.
- Support from an experienced breeder.

Breeder cons:
- Most are puppies and I would prefer an adult.
- Tend to be more expensive.
- The better breeders seem to be elitists who only want their dogs to go to wealthy people.
- Don’t want to deal with hypoglysmia sp? issues that chihuahua puppies tend to have.

Details about me:
I was an artist/massage therapist who moved into a new house last week of last Dec with the intentions of working on home businesses.
The former homeowners were dishonest and did not tell us the furnace had major problems. So just as soon I moved everything in, there was soot and fumes everywhere!!!!. Killed most of my pet fish that had recently been moved in with me.
I had to put most everything I owned in boxes out in the garage and move out again. Most everything I owned got contaminated by the soot. This ruined the plans I had for furthering my massage plans and posting my portfolios online.
I’ve been rebuilding my life as best I can and doing cleanup every since.
I have kept a job that I’d rather not have at the nursing home and spend most of my time cleaning up the mess imposed upon me by the former homeowners.

I have nearly everything inclyding food as I was originally planning to get a chihuahua in early to mid Jan after I moved to the new place and had organized a bit. I put away the deposit I got back from my apartment as a vet fund for my chihuahua. I have put the bags of food in a plastic bin in the garage so it’ll stay fresh longer until I get my chihuahua.

I was tempted to cancel my plans for a chihuahua after what happened, but I decided if I do, the person who did this to me has gained even more power over my life. They already took away my art,my massage, my hobbies, forced me to move in with my parents and killed my pet fish.
They are not taking away my plans for a chihuahua. So that was it, I went back to moving forward with these plans.
I suppose why I’m sharing these other details is because it would effect the choices as the more elitist people are going to outright reject me.

He has not been the same for about 2 days now. His energy level went down 100% he has stayed in side his "doggy house" and all he does is lay there. He usualy cant stay still for 5 seconds… so im really worried.
He doesnt want to eat and only drank a bit of water. He usually likes to be outside but now he wants to stay inside.
I herd that you can tell when a dogs sick by the way his nose is well his nose is dry and warm. He also threw up . I will take him to the vet tommorow but What do I do in the mean time ? what does he have.
Please help I dont want anything to happen to him.
He is a 2 yr old chi mix.

I bought a Siberian Husky off of a woman who had her for 5 years. But she had a baby who was allerigic to dogs. She is AKC regestered.

Today I was walking my dog, and came across a woman who also had a husky. She said hers was CKC regestered.

I never heard of the CKC. What is the difference between the two?
