What to know about my first dog?

Okay, so I really want to get a dog – but not ANYTIME soon. I’m talking maybe a year to a year and a half from now. I’m thinking I’d like a Pem. Welsh Corgi.(I’m open to suggestions of course) They’re cute and I (based on the research I’ve done so far) seem to like their temperament. I DO plan on actually interacting with one soon LOL. They’re not TOO big and they’re not too small. I am willing to spend the time needed to interact with it, train it, walk it, and love it (of course). However I don’t know squat about puppies and their care (I know more about cats and kittens). Can someone here point me in the right direction? Any ideas, like a website I could go to or something else more creative? There is so much information out there I feel overwhelmed.

Also, opinions on the breed would be appreciated.

I live in a large one bedroom apartment. There is ample green space in my complex to walk and play with my future dog, not to mention the dog parks nearby. I plan on putting the dog on an pet health insurance plan (like I have for my two cats) and I feed only the most high quality foods. I love animals and while I love cats the most, I feel like I’m missing out on the joy of owning a dog. I am, however, under no illusions; if I find a dog is not right for me during the course of my pre-dog ownership research, I will not get one.

Why can't co-workers understand I don't want kids?

I work with women on my jobs day shift. I have no problem being "friendly" with them and talking (as much as some of these women make me want to stick hot pokers in my ears when they open their mouths), but one thing is just IRKING me anymore. They can’t get it through their heads that i don’t want children. Sure I get that "pang" but no worse than when an ex smoker wants a fix of nicotine, or a woman PMS-ing wants chocolate. Its and itch I can scratch and it goes away. I decided at a YOUNG age (14) I don’t want kids and my views haven’t changed at all.

When they hear a young lady like myself with a perfectly fine set of reproductive organs doesn’t want kids, it makes them bonkers! Why not? You have to have a kid before 25. You’ll be sorry if you don’t. What happens when you’re in a home lonely and miserable? The harping doesn’t stop.

I honestly explain to them kids just aren’t in my future. I’ve made that completely clear to potential relationship partners and if they didn’t like it they could take a hike. I’m working a regular 9-5 schedule in a factory. I don’t have my own life together, let alone have it together in three years! I don’t mind working a blue collar job because it gives me the freedom with weekends off to do photography as a second job and enjoy having a steady pay check health insurance etc AND doing what I really love..photography! They can’t get it through their heads that kids would RUIN that for me. I don’t dream of baby books, cribs, and diapers. I have ferrets and they’re a handful as it is working this much.

I have no maternal instinct. I see a baby and RUN. I hate when others hand their babies/kids to me. It makes me uncomfortable. I loathe looking at baby pictures etc. I don’t get that warm fuzzy feeling others do.

What do you do? Any other girls have this experience? How do you POLITELY (I can’t stress this enough..these women some are NUTS and I don’t need fighting going on) tell them I don’t want kids and leave it at that? Anyone else deal with this?

My mom and dad are perfectly fine with it. They understand they’ll have grand-pets not grand kids. If my own PARENTS are fine with it how come others can’t drop it? It society just baby obsessed? Is this all middle/late age women have to look forward to after they have kids of their own?
I get along with my co-workers pretty well but being MOSTLY women on day shift (the night shift would be a dream for me..ONE woman..thats it!), thats all they ask me about. They can’t believe I don’t want to get married and have a family. I’d rather file "single" on my tax forms and never procreate. I’d get my tubes tied NOW if I could (Most doctors won’t do it to someone my age "just in case") I try and Ignore them…it causes problems. I love my job..I do get along with some really well and enjoy what I do but OMG these women! Its mind boggling that some can be SO OBSESSIVE with kids to the point they’d brag about telling their daughter to get preg. again to some random and call it a day just so they can have more grand kids then wonder how I’d think its a bad idea. (The idea of getting up earlier than I am now to take care of some screaming kid makes me want to run for the hills)
@ the answer telling me to hang with the guys…If i would I could. We have two set schedules and most of the men (95%) that work there are on the night shift. There is ONE woman on night shift vs day shift. I’d happily have worked night if I could. (They almost never hire women unless you’re pretty tough for night shift…)

Hey I found a veterinary receptionist job on craigslist. I sent in a resume. I was thinking this was a legit job but now with how many scams there are I’m worried that I sent my address and phone number to a job scam..
Does it sound legit or could it be a scam?? I’m paranoid now..

The US Military has a “you break it, you buy it” philosophy when it comes to troops getting injured in the line of duty — namely, if you become disabled while serving your country, the US Government just “bought” whatever you injured as is responsible for providing you medical care (at the Government’s expense) for that disability.

Never before has a politician suggested that men and women wounded in the defense of their nation should actually be responsible for paying for their own treatment. Why hasn’t anybody ever suggested it before? Because it’s morally repugnant and indefensible.

Unless of course you’re Barack Obama.

Who happens to think that Veterans should be forced to use their own private insurance to pay for wounds they received while fighting for their country.

In other words, Obama wants every civilian in this country to get free, nationalized health care, yet he wants wounded veterans to pay for their own treatment?

As one of those disabled veterans who would be direclty affected by this change in law, I’d like to offer up a hearty middle-fingered salute to Mr. Obama and tell him to go fuck himself.

Adding insult to injury
While Obama is busy spending billions upon trillions of dollars on Democrat pet projects, he wants Veterans to pay for their own health care? And on top of that (as if that’s not revolting enough), Obama also wants to tax health care benefits.

Don Surber quips, “The government takeover of the health care industry is the single biggest threat to everyone’s health.”)

So, not only will veterans be forced to use their own health insurance to pay for their treatment, but Dear Leader wants to tax them for that privilege, too.

Is there any wonder why active duty military and veterans hate Obama so much? When the coming revolution happens, and armed citizens march on D.C. to remove and replace our current government, who does Barack, Nancy, and Harry think is going to stand between them and the pissed-off nation? The military?

If that’s the case, I hope they have a Plan B…
this kinda of angers me if it passes.my husband is leaving to the marines here soon and im afriad of him not coming back.for the amount of money hes gonna make its not worth it.and if they start taking things away from the military.he might as well go work at a fast food place and make the same a mount.wellfare people live off the goverment do not give anything back and we pay for thier medical and are military are leaving their familys for a year and dieng and they have to pay for their own stuff thats inda messed

unemployment in between job transfer with same company?

okay,,, a bit of a complicated situation. My fiancee and I lived together in Maryland and 2 months ago he got a job back home in PA. I have been staying in Maryland, showing the house after work, at a job I have worked for the last 2 years. Two months ago, when I found out, I spoke with my boss about the upcoming move. I told them It all depended on when the house sold, so it was difficult to give a date. They put me in for a transfer at 2 stores in the area of where I will be moving. I have heard back from the one store, and they will have an opening in January. Well, living in the house by myself I have very very little money. I can no longer afford to travel back and forth to my job here, and we have a lot of showing requests, that I must be in home for (we have pets and other items in the home so I have to be there) anyway, am hoping the house will sell in a couple of months since the showings are so high. So last month I told them the best I could do was estimate a time to leave, so I picked November 20th. Still no house sale. I have 3 months to transfer to one of the new stores in PA so that my health insurance will be reinstated, but I can’t relocate yet becuase I do not have the finances to put everything in storage so that I can leave the house empty to show. I also do not have any place to stay in PA if I did decide to go there. Am I elligible to collect unemployment insurance until I can move to PA and be transfered to another store in the same company? I do not know if I have really "quit" as I requested to be transferred and my boss had set that in motion, but there will be a gap. I contacted the unemployment office, but am waiting to hear back in the meantime…. any ideas?

I'm homesick no matter where I am. What can I do?

My fiancee and I both moved from the States to live and work in Japan. We have good jobs and really love everything about living here. We love the food and the culture and our jobs and apartment. However, it’s been about six months and I am very, very homesick. My fiancee is a little homesick too, but not as much as me. We’re going to plan a trip to visit home soon, but it’s expensive. (At least 2,500-3000 for the both of us.) Our contracts with our jobs last for about nine more months, but even though I’m homesick…we’ll probably renew. The fact is, we might not be able to get jobs this good in the States right now. And we wouldn’t have health insurance like we do here, either. And, even more importantly…we’d be homesick for Japan.

It’s like I’m split in two. A part of me wants to go home so badly. I miss my family and friends and pets and Taco Bell! I miss the smell of hot clothing from a dryer and Adult Swim on TV. I miss everything. But I know that after a week, or a month, or maybe a few months, I would start to miss Japan again. I would miss the 100 yen sushi bars and combinis on every corner. I would miss Tokyo lights and trains and heated toilet seats. I would miss my coworkers and our awesome little apartment with all the cool stuff we’ve filled it with. I would miss everything.

Like I said, we’re planning a trip home to visit soon. Maybe that will help. I hope it won’t just make me more sad. I’ve also thought about getting a kitten. Pets have always been a big part of my life and animals make me happy. (Don’t worry, I know all about shipping animals overseas if we ever move back home.) But do you have any other advice? What do people like me do? I know there must be many people out there who’ve felt like this. Like they have two homes and are always missing the one they aren’t at… What can I do to keep from just always being sad and homesick?
