My dog has been having A LOT of bad health problems lately, but my mom won’t take him to the vet because she is a bad word. His eye has a very large stye like thing on his eyelid, and his eye is bleeding. He also has been having a really bad skin problem. My mom is going to be out of town for a few weeks and I want to take my dog to the vet, but I don’t know where the insurance info for him is. I was planning on trying to pay for it by myself, but I don’t know if I have enough money. What should I do? Any help would be awesome. <3
Please and thank you!

Good dogs for an apartment?

I know this question has been asked a million times but I’m gonna ask it again lol.

A medium sized dog is ideal for me but I’m open to ALL suggestions. My apartment isn’t really cramped at all, it’s pretty spacious. I’d like a dog that doesn’t require too much exercise, maybe 2 30 minute walks a day at the most.

I was looking into italian greyhounds but they’re supposedly very fragile, I don’t even have health insurance myself so I can’t afford to constantly go to the vet.
Btw I’ll give 10 points to best answer
Yeah I like bulldogs but they have too many health problems and they drool everywhere.

I like pugs and puggles but they’re too much money for me.

Hello to all you cat experts! I have a 10 month old black kitten who, while having a little extra padding, is quite fit, healthy, and responsive with a good appetite. He would pant occasionally over the last 5 months after periods of strenuous play, for a minute or so after stopping the activity. Lately this has been occurring more frequently but it has also been VERY hot in our brick apartment with no AC (though we did just get a fan and will be installing a large AC unit at the end of the month).

I looked panting in cats up online and was alarmed about the possible health problems listed. Particularly as we lost a small kitten to a rare form of anemia just prior to adopting the kitty love in question. My partner and I were devastated by this loss and I’m very worried that our current friend might have a similar terminal defect. I called the vet and he said very few cats pant, and it could be an indication of a serious underlying problem. He also said it is possible that for our cat it is perfectly fine, or something he will grow out of. My boyfriend, who has a lot more feline experience than I do, has seen quite a few otherwise healthy cats who panted after exertion.

I have been extremely worried about my little kee. I would very much appreciate any insight from those with cat panting experience on either end of the spectrum!

I have a 6 month old male manx, his name is Achilles and he’s my pride and joy. He’s also a cabbit, meaning his hind legs are longer than his front legs, so he compensates by hopping on his hind legs instead of walking on them step by step. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Manx Syndrome, I’ll try to give as much information about the disease and it’s effect on Achilles.

The manx gene is extremely dominate when it comes to mating for pure-breeds, so it is actually very dangerous to mate two short-tail/no tail manxes; this is what causes Manx Syndrome. (It’s confusing to me how Achilles was even born with the disease since his mother wasn’t even a manx; only his father.) I’ve heard it’s very similar to Spina Bifida. Since Achilles is a no tail manx, he has a shortened spine and specific vertebrae in his spine can be linked to his weakened organs, especially his digestion, bowels, and bladder control. He has no problem knowing when he has to go and always makes it to the litter box, it’s only finishing his business he struggles with. I’m not sure if it’s weakened muscles that give him trouble pushing out his stools or if he can even feel anything back there, but I always find little turds near or around the litter box after he jumps out because he thinks he finished. Other than a nasty case of tapeworm that I immediately treated when he was given to me, Achilles has had no other health problems.

I took him to the vet to have him tested because his father was diagnosed with feline AIDS; fortunately, Achilles’s test came back negative. The veterinarian was very puzzled by his appearance and when I asked him if Manx Syndrome was a progressive or regressive disease, he honestly replied that my cat was the first manx he’d ever seen and knew nothing about his condition or breed.

I’m just curious to know if my little guy will be in kitty diapers in the next few years or if there’s anything I can do (i.e. other types of food, massage, or any other type of therapy) to slow the condition if it is progressive.

In your opinion, what is the best dog to have in my situation? Please read info below.?
Me and my mom just recently lost our pit bull of 15 years, sweetest dog in the world. But we don’t want a little dog, and we don’t want an aggressive ‘type’ dog. Maybe a medium or large sized sweet dog. One that can be obedient and loyal. We are stuck and don’t know what breed to pick. We are only two girls living together and cannot handle an agressive dog and can’t get home owners insurance with any of the 7 aggressive dogs. Can you please help us out , it would be much appreciated.

Additional Details
I would also like a dog with MINIMAL shedding, and a dog that will be indoors when were indoors, and will be outside when we are not home. I’d like a dog with not many health problems, and i DON’T Want a little toy dog, i wan’t a BIGto medium sized loyal dog.
HELP ME OUT PLEASEE!!!!

I checked several insurances and they only cover health problems. The reason I am asking is because my "intelligent" landlord wants me to get insurance. Is pet insurance mandatory to get in Los Angeles, or California. I looked it up and from what I know its not a law. I know neurtering, rabies shots, and vaccinations are required but Insurance?
I am renting and by dog is. Mini scnauzer 20 pounds how is it dangeour. So my landlord is just trying to make hard it’s dumb. It’s not likebhe loose he’s a house dog

60 year old man with health problems?

Hi, I am 60 yrs old and have, what I think, are some real severe health problems. I am short of breath most of the time and get chest pains when I do any steady type of work or exercise. Like a lot of people in the country I do not have health insurance because of the cost. I have worked like a dog since I was 14 yrs old, raised a family, paid my taxes and all the other stuff that a good American Citizen should do. Lets say my name is Smith, the first is David and I have what was used to be blond hair. Well, I guess down to the question- when I ask for some type of help (not a hand out) why is it that I get turned away like I were some type of a monstrous, no-good murderer? My neighbors down the street go to the emergency room at least twice a month because one of their (6) kids has a sniffle and they come home and tell me that it’s FREE, I should try it!! WHY??

one of my cats has FLUTD. my vet told me (and has repeatedly told me) that the only food they recommend feeding him at all is Hills PRESCRIPTION (not science) Diet Feline c/d dry food, which can only be purchased at a veterinary clinic, because it lowers the pH of his urine because of its low magnesium.

I’ve read elsewhere and have been told by other people (not veterinarians though) many different things including:

1. that dry food contributes to the problem by removing hydration from the cats sytem?
2. that Hills Prescription Diet contains mostly grains?
3. that removing magnesium from foods is not the best solution, as cats may need some magnesium?

my concern is that if any of the things people are telling me are correct, and I’m buying food vets get paid to sell, I could be shortening his lifespan when my intention is to keep him alive and happy as long as possible.

he’s eaten Prescription c/d for at least 4 years and has had no health problems while on it, after almost dying from crystal blockage and barely avoiding kidney damage from eating Purina Cat Chow (not saying Purina is dangerous, my cat has a disease). I got him to resume drinking water by buying a cat fountain because he was afraid to drink, and it took a week to get him to eat the Prescription c/d for the first time. but 4 years now.

a pet shop owner gave me samples of a few different products (but she also told me to continue buying Hills Prescription Feline c/d as she thinks it helps), some of the products being: dry Taste Of The Wild feline formula, dry Felidae, wet Wellness Healthy Indulgence packets (she had no dry Wellness). she also told me what others have: that moisure/water is the best because it can prevent the crystals from forming and the infections from coming back. she said cats are desert animals and naturally resist water, so wet food is best.

so far my plan is: continue feeding Hills Prescription c/d, buy Wellness wet Healthy Indulgence packets to give him more liquids.

anyone have any experience with this situation? what do you feed your cat, and how long has it worked?

I’ve recently adopted a nine year old shih-tzu. He doesn’t have any health problems, but I’m anticipating some solely because of his age. I would like to know if anyone who has experience with pet insurance with senior dogs has found the cost worth it.

Costs of getting a Dog?

So my whole life i’ve grown up with dogs, i’m now 24, just finishing up my last year of school, moved out on my own and i think its time for me to get one.

Seeing as I’m a student, money doesnt grow on trees, and i know for sure that i can’t afford a new straight from the pet store puppy.

I have however been looking around and the humane society up the street has many dogs for adoption.

My question is this, how much of a cost (roughly) will i be looking at to get a dog.

the adoption cost is around 0 (includes shots/sterilization)

After these initial costs are over, what am i looking at to feed/maintain my dog?

Is pet insurance worth it? in case of health problems?

Dogs i’m looking at are medium sized (example: huskeys)

What to do with stray cats?

There was a female cat left behind when a couple moved from our town. They lived next to us. The female cat is not spayed of course and it was left outside to defend for itself. Male cats come down near our house because they know there are females. The one female multplied into a bunch more, but now there are only two adult females left overall because the elements must have gotten the best of them. Those two females then had a litter of kittens each producing about 8-9 kittens. Again the elements took over and now there are four kittens left. Aside from that we had already caught two adults who unfortunately passed away due to health problems. We have been feeing them continuously since we knew they were there. My sister is verya tatched to them and now calls them her "outside cats". The male cats are coming around again meaning that the there are at least now 3 reproductive females, hence, more lil kittens. We have don’t really have a local spca, the cloest is a hr away and the so called organization around here will not return my emails when I ask for help with them. Anyway, my sisters wants to be able to keep them but they are wild now and they do have Feline Leukemia because the two that had passed away had it. I have two cats inside of my own. We are wondering how we can help them. She had plans of building a house-like building for them but would that work seeing how they are wild? What other options are there?

What pet insurance do you use for your dog and what does it cover? Can you give me the link for it. Also what medication do you use monthly (do you use it monthly or weekly) for heart worm, fleas, ticks, and etc. Also explain what health problems this package covers, and do you have a link for this site also? Please and thank you.

Also I last time I forgot to mention I live in SO. CALIFORNIA, so something available that ships over here. Last time I got this incredible answer, to bad it only delivered to residences in Canada.
*The medication because it makes sure they don’t have/or get fleas, ticks, and heartworms. Or am I thinking about this backwards?
I don’t think we have much ticks around here if I think about it, but we have worms, not A LOT but just enough to get your dog sick.
KiKi: No. The insurance will not cover already existing health problems. But if you got the insurance (one that fits your needs, look through different ones or get referrals) before it would have covered most of it. I advise you to get one before something else rises up.

Overweight Felines?

I have 2 very active 2year old cats that are putting on weight, our male is already overweight (though not to an extreme point), and our female is well on her way to becoming overweight. They are both fixed. I need a diet plan that is thorough in nutrition as well as keeping the cat full. I need complete nutrition because I also have an 11 month old kitten who is not overweight and is still growing.

Please help, I really want to keep my cats healthy! They are to young to have health problems. And are fed suggested portions 1 time daily, and that feeds them for the full day. Also the older female was born with a heart murmur and while the vet said its gone, I don’t want the weight of stress to cause further problems.

Suggestions on food types, feeding tips, and "rationing" would be greatly appreciated. Experiences will help too!

Thanks a bunch!
