My puppy has kennel cough and the vet prescribed antibiotics two days ago which i give her twice a day. Last night she was coughing like crazy and this morning was coughing up big amounts of phlegm. Is this good or bad? My first thought was that its all getting out of system…she is still eating, still plays but is def tired alot.

Just want to make sure the coughing up wasn’t a sign of things getting worse.

Have had her for four days. Two days ago, she came down with kennel cough. Brought her to the vet and he said to giver her cough medicine. I know he knows what he’s doing, but I’m not comfortable with the answer.

I took him to the vet who confirmed it was Kennel Cough. He gave me some Amoxicillin liquid and told me to have him rest and sleep as much as possible.

Is there anything I can do to help him beat this quicker and get better?

Personal experience anyone?

torbaynewfs – I have actually never delt with Kennel Cough the whole time I have owned dogs (23 years). I’ve heard it is very common, but I have personally never dealt with it (luckily), until now. I just wanted some feedback as to how others dealt with it. Of course I’m going to listen to the doctor (that’s why I went there!) and give him his medication but I wanted to hear personal experience from other dog/puppy owners. I don’t plan on giving him any other medication then what the doctor has prescribed, but maybe other people have a few tricks or tips on how to make the virus go away sooner or at least how to make my puppy as comfortable as he can be until he can beat this thing.

You don’t need to be rude. I’m only trying to do what’s best for my puppy so he doesn’t get something worse or deadly like pneumonia or parvo. Sheesh.

I have 2 dogs, take them to the dog park and around other dogs often, One of the 2 sounds like he has a cough, the other does not. Just wondering if they can pick up kennel cough even if they have had all the immunizations? Just noticed it today, and…….yes I will be calling the vet 1st thing in the morning.

For the past couple of days my dog has been coughing like she’s choking on a hairball. Usually happens when she first gets up in the morning. Which causes her to vomit. Same thing happened today, only now she sounds like she can’t breathe. A constant wheezing sound. From what I researched online it sounds like kennel cough. :/

My neighbor has two dogs with kennel cough, and my daughter pretty much lives over there, with two dogs that have Kennel cough. If she comes home to our dogs, is it possible she can spread the virus by getting it on her clothes from the infected dogs?

Hi my pug has a kennel cough. You think infant vitamins and infant cough syrup can help aid the cough. Myvet told me to give him lots of water. But then, he was still not well.

my dog has kennel cough. shes a chihuahua and shes had the symptoms for 2 days now. she sound asthough shes in pain. does anybody know of any home remedies that i can prep up to help ease the discomfort? i already tried honey and she wont touch it.

Coincidentally, both I and my 22 month old son have fallen ill since Leah has been sick (which is 4 weeks now). We are both suffering from a dry cough, chest congestion and my son is now weezing. I don’t think we’ve contracted kennel cough but perhaps we came in contact with the virus that subsequently triggered a reaction within us??

Hi everyone. I have 4 dogs:
4 year old intact male Cattle dog
8 month old intact male bull mastiff
2 year old JRT spayed female
12 year old female staffy mix spayed

They are all up to date on all shots, including kennel cough. They are all regularly treated for parasites. Internal and external. I buy from the vet. Not from walmarts or petsmart etc. While we were moving because it would be four or five days and a few trips each day. I asked my close friend and someone who knew my dogs well, to watch them for a week or so, while we got the fencing fixed, and everything moved in to the house. I feed my dogs a mix of the orijin flavors. I buy two three bags of different kinds and mix them together. I thought what i gave her would be enough for the week and 2 days. She ended up feeding my dogs more then what each gets fed, and ran out. She just fed my dogs what she feeds her dogs – Ol’Roy and pedigree mixed for the past 3 days. My cattle dog has lost probably about 5-7 pounds. You can see his ribs, and hips show.. He is a VERY high energy dog and is a daily worker (moving livestock) so his metabilzum is high, he has bad dierriah, and is puking . My jack and bullmastiff both have the runs badly. My pitty mix have slight runs, but nothing to bad. Help please?!
Yes, she has 2 other dogs. A male shepherd/rottie mix and a female pom/chi mix.

All the puppys that I have adopted got parvo or kennel cough.

1 survived parvo, 1 died and another one has kennel cough.

When I see them at the shelter they are very healthy, then they go to the vet to be spayed or neutered and they come and get sick within a few days.

Is it possible they caught them from the vet since they look so healthy at the shelter?

Is it just airbourne or does it also get on the surrounding surfaces? Say for instance you had a puppy that had kennel cough. That puppy was removed from the area and a new dog was put into that area. Could the new dog get kennel cough?

Just put my two dogs up in a kennel for about a week. They both ended up with kennel cough even thought they had the shot prior to them going in. They are both taking meds that i got from the vet today that they have to take for a week. But the poor things are having soo much trouble getting through the night. Does anyone know anyways to ease their pain ?
