Insuring my two kittens. How does it work?

I want to insure my two kittens, I’ll be bringing them home in april.

I’m curious as to how it works. I checked it out at the OSPCA and my total was like 44 bucks per month. But when does the insurance kick in? Can I use it for spaying? What about vaccinations? Do I have to be paying monthly fees for a cirtain amaount of time before my vet vills are covered?

Anything you know about pet insurance please tell me
thanks in advanced

my kitten has been tested for feline leukemia?

My 3 month old kitten had a first blood test and tested positive for feline leukemia! This is my first time dealing with something like this and I’m not sure what to do or think about it. I have heard that kittens can die really fast from it or that other kittens live for a long time. We have to get her tested again in 2 months to see if it’s a false positive, and also we have to get my other cat tested again to see if she was a false negative.
Is there anyone that has gone through this, what did you do, how did you get past it. I guess I am just looking for someone else that had this experience and things turned out ok. I just need to know what I may or may not have in store for me… Thanks

filthy "pet store"?

I think im going to contact the APA (animal protection agency) should I?
I was at a market and they had a "pet store" my husband and I are not animal people but decided to go in the place smelled so bad i cant even describe it and they had these HUGE rabbits in small cages to wear they couldnt do anything but lay down. one of the kittens had sickly looking diarhea the place was at least 90 degrees onthe inside. it was horrible and my heart broke for these animals can /would the apa do anything about this?

also I dont think they even give vaccination b.c the place was really dumpy and they had a sign that said have unwanted pets maybe we can help
omg i found a site where people have been talking about this place http://www.yelp.com/biz/soulard-farmers-market-saint-louis there are a few people who mention the filth of this pet store

What to do about a kitten with no vaccinations?

My husband and I are planning to add a new kitty to our family. We have the money, the space, the time, and the love required to take care of another cat, so there’s no worries about that, but what worries me is the idea of him being in the house for even a day without vaccinations around our other two cats.

You see, my husbands friend from our hometown recently rescued a stray cat, and when he took her to the vet to be fixed, he found out she was pregnant. He decided to let her have the litter and once the kittens were old enough they’d go to the no kill shelter. He’s already called and they have an "appointment" to be dropped off at the shelter when they’re 8 weeks old. He told us that if we wanted a kitten, we could have one before he took the others to the shelter.

We picked out a small white male with black spots (he’s adorable) and we’re very excited to bring him home, but the problem is, our hometown is 3 hours away from our current home. The driving isn’t an issue, and we have a pet carrier and all that, but we have to go down on a day that we both have off work, and the soonest available day is on a Sunday. Our vet’s office isn’t open on Sundays, so at the very least, he’ll be in our house overnight without the opportunity to get him his vaccinations.

My question is, will my other two cats be okay if I lock the new kiddo in a separate room until he gets his vaccinations? Both Cora and Callie have had their FeLV, Rabies, and Distemper vaccinations updated within the past few months, and they’d be in a completely different room of the house. The mother of the kittens has been tested and is not a carrier of FeLV, Rabies, or Distemper, but as we cannot verify who the sire is, we don’t know if he was a carrier of any of these diseases.

Will my girls be safe if he’s quarantined? I don’t feel it’s fair to ask my husband’s friend to shoulder the expense of getting the kitten vaccinations, especially if quarantining the kitten in a different room would be safe. I understand I can reimburse my husband’s friend, and if that’s the only solution that will work, I’ll have to set something up with him, but if there’s a way to do this without overextending his generosity, I’d like to handle the situation that way.

Your answer is appreciated! Thank you!

Feline Leukemia, our cats refuse to eat?

a month ago we took in our cat to get fixed at the animal shelter. She also had a litter of 6 kittens at the time and since they weren’t weined yet the guy said he had to take the kittens as well until they were weined and ready to be up for adaption. We couldn’t afford to keep the kittens, but we told the guy that we wanted our cat back when it was time. He said no problem.

Well last friday my Mom and I took a trip down to the animal shelter to see how our cat was doing. We couldn’t find her in any of the kennels so we asked some lady and she looked up her name in the computer and unfortunately she told us that our cat and her kittens had to all be put to sleep because they were tested positive for leukemia.

we have 2 other cats that came the mother cat. We’re worried about them because we can tell that they aren’t feeling good. Today my younger one threw up and the older one hasn’t been eating hardly anything for the past 2 weeks. & we think they have the same illness. plz help
sorry but we can’t afford a vet
Okay look please don’t blame me for our cat getting pregnant because she got out by accicident! and don’t call me irresponsible and cruel because I am trying my BEST to keep these 2 other cats healthy! I pet them every day, give them love, I give them catnip once in a while and I play with them to keep them happy! my aunt gave me 0 dollars for birthday money to get her fixed and get her shots so she can come back to us until we found out she was put to sleep! There is no way i’m giving up my other two cats unless I KNOW they have this virus so please stop with the remarks! IM ONLY 14!! I love my cats to death so leave me alone!

Feline Aids and feline leukemia?

Last week i lost my cat to this disease. It was a wild cat that we adopted 4 years ago and he was really settled but was still a little nervous of us. He came home one day with a limp so we had to get the RSPCA to come and collect him to try and get his leg fixed. Unfortunately they found he had FIV and leukemia. I was devastated. I am also finding it really hard to get over it, i went to the vets to pick him up after he was put down and i had to carry him to my car in a towel. I should have let my dad do it but i felt i really wanted to. Anyone had any experiences with these diseases or having to collect their pets from the vets after being put down.
I don’t want to paint a bad picture for the RSPCA they were extremely kind. He wasn’t neutered no, they were going to do that whilst they examined his legs. The vets said that its very common for them to have both leukemia and FIV which is a shame. But i know that a lot of kittens lives will be saves as it won’t be passed on. But he was a very charismatic cat and it is a shame FIV is so popular with cats.

Thanks for all your comments.

Problem with Scoop able Litter turning to glue?

I’ve never had this problem before, always had cats. I have a covered cat box. I clean it every 2 days or so. But I changed brands of litter & the last 2 I bought, Scoop Away & Fresh Step, when I try scooping it out it is like trying to lift thick clay mud. It is all wet. My cats can’t be peeing that much, and always before it would just turn into a solid clump that I would lift out. I changed it again 2 days ago, checked it the next day, & it wasn’t mud yet but it was definetly getting wet & it was mucky already. It has been really humid here lately & I wondered if that was making it worse. I rarely even see my cats in the litter box so they can’t be peeing that much. I just changed it again and left the cover off of it to see if that helps. Any ideas or suggestions will be apprieciated. Thanks.
I have 3 cats, 2 babies & 1 fully grown cat. Started noticing it right after I got the kittens. Older cat barely uses the litter box, She goes outside.

We might be adopting two kittens soon. (2-4 months old)

I wanted to know what are some ways to care for their teeth.
I saw this item:

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2750925&lmdn=Cat+Health+Care#RatingsDetail

Apparently its a treat that controls tar and plaque and the reviews say that their feline friend LOVES it. The only thing is that no one answered whether or not it helped their dental care.

Another thing, is this necessary? I’ve read a bit about it and saw the nasty results from it, but what about everyone else? Did you have to worry for it? What did you do?

(If you’ve tried something different, could you tell me specifically what brand you used and the results.)

I’m a bengal cat breeder, but any cat that I don’t think is of the uptmost quality to further the breed is fixed, and sold as a wonderful pet. I think all pets with exception of registered breeders who sell only fixed pets or absolute quality breeders should be fixed. A lady that I met the other day when I was taking my bengal boy out for a walk with my hubby and my daughter; she wanted to buy one of the kittens from him. No biggie; but I said about the fact that the purchase price included the spaying or neutering, the vaccinations, and registration; and she said she ‘didn’t beleive in desexing pets.’ I ended up telling her that I wouldn’t sell her a kitten, then, as I sell for a hobby, to better the breed; not for money; and I would not sell an unfixed kitten that was not of show/breeder quality; and not to a unregistered breeder. But she kept saying "Do you know the side effects of fixing a cat", and yes, I do, I’m quite educated on the fact; but when I went to mention about…
the side effects of not fixing them, Ie., the cancer or infection of the uterus region if not bred often enough (as she wanted a female) since she claimed she only kept her cat indoors and never bred them (she had a female, wanted another female for company for her cat..); she just said, "You can do it your way, I will do it my way.", which is why I said she couldn’t have a kitten, but I don’t understand the mentality of it.. Or the complete disregard to her cat’s health…?

Hi we need help with cats and kittens?

In our area we are having a great problem with strays. we need people that will be willing to foster the cats. But there is a catch to it. just like we have kittens ( lots of kittens) we have adult cats. Some that are very shy, and some that arent use to people.

We will take care of all vaccinations, and fixing the animals. We will also give you 24 hour service, in case you are having problems with them.

You have to be patient, and you have to be loving, the cat would stay with you until you think they are ready to go out for adoption. At that time we will either give them to a No- kill shelter, or advertise them on craigslist, and pet finder.

No small children if you are going to take in an adult cat.

They will be tested for communicable infections, and you will recieve proof of vaccinations.

Looking for people not only in East windsor, But all over Jersey. we will transport the cats to you.

Please please help our cats.
I can be contacted at cespedes.n@pg.com

my first cat is two years old. but he was just over a year before i brought home my other younger kitten. now my first cat " buzz" tested neg. for feline leukemia and had his vacc. before i brought home my younger cat " woody" it was my mistake to think that all shelters, adoption centers, and foster homes test their kittens for feline leukemia before they are adopted. i took woody to the vet to get his yearly shots and also tell the vet that he’s stopped playing with my other cat and all their toys, and recently has lost some weight. i thought maybe i just had to put them back on the kitten chow. turns out he’s got cancer of the lymph nodes and is positive for feline leukemia. and the vet doesn’t think he has much longer. i’m gonna get buzz tested again first thing monday morning. my vet says it would be pointless to try and keep them seperate now because they have been buddies for a year now. my question is Does the risk of buzz getting feline leukemia go up the longer he is exposed to it? and Does the risk become greater the more sick woody gets? i also just wanted to take this chance and tell people to do your research before you adopt, don’t be afraid that your asking too many questions. and don’t listen to anybody who says you don’t need a vet and your pet doesn’t need their shots and vaccinations. To think if i had ever missed one check up appointment or listened to one of those people who told me that vaccinatons are unneccesary if your pet appears healthy. i might be losing two of my babies instead of one.

I took in a kitten who was dumped off near my home. He has tested positive for feline leukemia twice now. Both the ELISA and the IFA test are positive. The goal was to find him a home, but now I am stuck. Do I simply have him euthanized? Most of the research I’ve done recommends this, but what I am looking for, are stories of cats who have lived with the disease.
If you have a story you can share with me, I would appreciate that very much. When was the cat diagnosed, what treatment was used, how long did the cat live, etc. I am especially interested in cats diagnosed as kittens.
Currently, the kitten is being kept in a bedroom, away from my cats. He is such a great little guy, I am absolutely devistated.

Two or three months ago I rescued two beautiful 6 month old kittens. I got them neutered, took them for vaccinations (they got rabies and feline leukemia), dewormed them etc. I love these cats like they are my babies. They are very playful, active, have pink gums, eat normally, happy, and the vets said everything looks fine. HOWEVER, I have not tested them for feline leukemia, even before giving them the vaccinations because like i said, I love them too much and if I find out then it will feel like death.

Even if they do go on to live for several years after the diagnosis, I will never stop thinking about it and cry nonstop. I already have depression. There’s no way i can handle the news. I don’t want to know at all. Besides, there’s only a slight chance they might have it right? They were so young and they look perfectly fine.
They have nice bowel movements, they never vomit, never get lethargic, never have diarrhea or anything of that sort.
I believe I saw their mom once, she looks very healthy too and she’s old and still alive. Ahh idk. I don’t think it makes a diff. whether i do the test or not. Either way, they’ll still get better treatment, food, etc.
They’re indoor cats
