How to kill fleas on my pets and in my home?

Any suggestions? We have 2 cats and a dog. Usually we use advantage or revolution on our dog and our 2 cats, but it has been a few months since we have been able to get some more and I just saw a flea on my kitty! I placed an order for some flea stuff, but i hate the thought that they have fleas bugging them in the meantime. Does anyone have any suggestions for killing all the fleas safely without harming the pets? I would rather use something safe but if i cannot find anything, I will use revolution or advantage…or something like that. Thanks!

Our cat was recently diagnosed w/ FeLV. We are going to do everything possible to make sure he survives and has a great quality of life. I’m a little bit worried though b/c although I know that this is a species specific virus…I’m worried that my brothers baby (1yr old) that lives w/ us might catch something from the cat…some other virus. Has anyone lived w/ a FeLV cat and had small children? or other pets like dogs?
Thanks to everyone that has responded. This is the first time that we’ve experienced something like this so we’re very inexperienced and shocked. We love this cat and don’t want to get rid of him but at the same time we were worried about our other pet and the baby. Thanks for putting our fears to rest. We will do everything on our part to make sure our kitty gets better.

Pet Smart Banfield basic plus plan for kitten?

I just got a new kitty and I think I made the mistake of letting my family take care of setting up an appointment for him. Maybe it is a reasonable price, but I feel as though maybe going to an animal shelter or something for vaccinations would’ve been wiser.

Anyway, this Banfield plan my kitty is on is somewhere around 0 total for the year, and covers the following: otoscopic exam, ophthalmic exam, rectal, dental, neurologic, cardiovascular, weight, coat + skin, abdominal palpation, urogenital, musculoskeletal, pulmonary/lung eval, leukemia/AIDS, ear swab/microscopic exam, intestinal parasite fecal exams ( 3x) dewordm for roundworm/hookworms (4x) and lastly, the spaying/neutering.

Is this bogus or what?

Feline Leukemia Kitten

I’m moving into an apartment & am considering saving this cute positive kitten from work. If no one takes her she will be euthanized, but no one wants to kill her. She’s a very sweet diluted calico with striking yellow eyes. She probally won’t live long, but I work at a vet clinic so she could get excellent care. Knowing the day may come that I will have to euthanize her makes it a tough decision. Should I take her? If so what should I name her? What kind of special needs come with a kitty?
The tests show she is getting more positive & most of my coworkers want to find her an appropriate home. She is still very young- under 2mo. old- & the vets were hoping she would get better. She’s lively, eats & drinks well, plays, & loves attention. She doesn’t usually have well-formed stool, but she did today.

What to do about a kitten with no vaccinations?

My husband and I are planning to add a new kitty to our family. We have the money, the space, the time, and the love required to take care of another cat, so there’s no worries about that, but what worries me is the idea of him being in the house for even a day without vaccinations around our other two cats.

You see, my husbands friend from our hometown recently rescued a stray cat, and when he took her to the vet to be fixed, he found out she was pregnant. He decided to let her have the litter and once the kittens were old enough they’d go to the no kill shelter. He’s already called and they have an "appointment" to be dropped off at the shelter when they’re 8 weeks old. He told us that if we wanted a kitten, we could have one before he took the others to the shelter.

We picked out a small white male with black spots (he’s adorable) and we’re very excited to bring him home, but the problem is, our hometown is 3 hours away from our current home. The driving isn’t an issue, and we have a pet carrier and all that, but we have to go down on a day that we both have off work, and the soonest available day is on a Sunday. Our vet’s office isn’t open on Sundays, so at the very least, he’ll be in our house overnight without the opportunity to get him his vaccinations.

My question is, will my other two cats be okay if I lock the new kiddo in a separate room until he gets his vaccinations? Both Cora and Callie have had their FeLV, Rabies, and Distemper vaccinations updated within the past few months, and they’d be in a completely different room of the house. The mother of the kittens has been tested and is not a carrier of FeLV, Rabies, or Distemper, but as we cannot verify who the sire is, we don’t know if he was a carrier of any of these diseases.

Will my girls be safe if he’s quarantined? I don’t feel it’s fair to ask my husband’s friend to shoulder the expense of getting the kitten vaccinations, especially if quarantining the kitten in a different room would be safe. I understand I can reimburse my husband’s friend, and if that’s the only solution that will work, I’ll have to set something up with him, but if there’s a way to do this without overextending his generosity, I’d like to handle the situation that way.

Your answer is appreciated! Thank you!

Hello to all you cat experts! I have a 10 month old black kitten who, while having a little extra padding, is quite fit, healthy, and responsive with a good appetite. He would pant occasionally over the last 5 months after periods of strenuous play, for a minute or so after stopping the activity. Lately this has been occurring more frequently but it has also been VERY hot in our brick apartment with no AC (though we did just get a fan and will be installing a large AC unit at the end of the month).

I looked panting in cats up online and was alarmed about the possible health problems listed. Particularly as we lost a small kitten to a rare form of anemia just prior to adopting the kitty love in question. My partner and I were devastated by this loss and I’m very worried that our current friend might have a similar terminal defect. I called the vet and he said very few cats pant, and it could be an indication of a serious underlying problem. He also said it is possible that for our cat it is perfectly fine, or something he will grow out of. My boyfriend, who has a lot more feline experience than I do, has seen quite a few otherwise healthy cats who panted after exertion.

I have been extremely worried about my little kee. I would very much appreciate any insight from those with cat panting experience on either end of the spectrum!

I dont understand this feline leukemia…?

My kitty tested positive for feline leukemia and has to undergo a bone marrow test tomorrow to determine. It’s severity. We were led to this discovery as she has had an ear infection that wouldn’t clear.
The vet says that it can be carried three ways. In reading I see that some cats are effected by the actual disease and get very, very ill. Another form I see talks about being a carrier and not really being effected by it unless you catch something and then it acts as an immune defincency virus… and the third can cause lymphomas..
I don’t understand. Which one is the one that causes all the pain, no eating, muscle spasms..etc and which one would be the best for me to hope for?
Im a mess guys. I feel like I am loosing my best friend. This is not just my cat.. she is part of my definition of me. I am 27 and she has been with me since I was about 18. I am so lost… I thought this was an ear infection. Any imput?

Life expectancy with feline leukemia?

I recently have taken in a feral kitten. I’ve had him for about a month and he is just now starting to warm up to me. I took him in for his first vet appt today and he tested positive for feline leukemia – he is about 4-5 months old. Since researching this disease on the internet, I read where the earlier the cat is contracted with leukemia the shorter life expectancy they have, is this true? How long should I expect to have with my little guy? Also, does anyone have any advice on good ways to keep up the kitty’s immune system? Any certain diet or other recommendations? Please serious answers only.

Thank you in advance.
Also, I thought I should add that I do not have any other cats and he has not been subjected to any other cats. He is my only one.

Feline Leukemia Virus?

My 2 year old kitty has been tested for "Feline Leukemia Virus" Everything came out normal for the test (Thank God) I didn’t want to go through that again with a cat. Anyway, does it make a cat sore after having the test? Seems like she’s in a bad mood…Hissing and growling at the poor dogs and she’s walking kinda slow. They never told me anything at the vets if she was going to be sore or not and they were pretty busy.

For those who had the test done for their cats, let me know if there is side affects after the test?

If anyone answered any of my questions before, you would all know that first i was planning on getting a dog, then a rabbit and then a ferret…but since i cant get a dog , my mom doesnt like rabbits or ferrets…i have decided that cats are the most awesome :)

I have owned a cat before but for only a month, i thought it was a stray so i took it to my house and had it for a month while i was looking for its owners with my mom (cause i thought someone probably lost it ) , turns out it was lost for over two months . While i had it i fed it, i got it a carrier , bed, food, food bowls, toys , brushes and litter things…so i pretty much know what it takes to have a cat in the house ..

So back to my questions..Im planning to get a cat in January/February . I am definitely going to get a Ragdoll cat ( i love the breed, and it suits my life ) Im for sure going to buy all its toys..litter..food etc, but some of my questions are :

What is an average price of owning a kitten from the age of like 12-15 weeks or older?

If any of you guys live in Vancouver do you know the prices for Vaccinations, yearly check ups, neuter / spaying , or even if you arent from Vancouver then tell me about the prices where you live? The average cost it would be if i just got a kitten and payed for all the vaccinations etc..?

Any Ragdoll kitty info? Anything special about that breed like extra vaccinations maybe? Or just tell me about your expirience with Ragdoll kitties..

& please dont think im not seriously considering everything about cats because i am, and ive read alot about the breed itself (ragdolls) and ive learned alot in the past month..

+ Im going to leave my house at 8 am, and get home at 4 pm cause i still go to school ( im only 14 ) and is it okay having a cat if im away that long ? ( i know cats are independent , but what about the schedule for kittens if they are only 15 weeks? )
( + i might get it in the very beginning of January, so i will have it over the holidays (they last until like the 20th of January) so the kitten will get time to get used to the place and i will have time to do kitten things , haha )

+ Im also getting it from a breeder.

PS: If anyone is actually interested inreally helping me with all my questions or if you have alot of expirience with Ragdoll cats please write that in your answer so i know you want to help me with some other questions so i can give you my email if you want so you can contact me later.

I know this is super long , but please take the time to answer if you can ..i would really appreciate it :)

Thanks .
I actually thought breeders were good (some ) like those who rarely have kittens cause they do love their cats and theirs back yard breedings . And yeah ofcourse, if i can find a ragdoll to adopt i would adopt it ASAP :) i love the animal shelter (me and my friend go there once a week to play with the animals )

I just adopted a shelter kitty. She’s 3 years old, has no health conditions as far as anyone knows, is up to date on her shots for another year, and has 1 free vet visit that I’ve scheduled for her. I was wondering which is more cost effective, getting her pet insurance or getting a pet health care plan through Banfield at Petsmart. It seems like the health care plan is probably more useful but does anyone have experience with either of these options that can help me decide? I want to do whatever is best for my new cat : )
Thanks!

I had an 8 week old kitten who passed away from feline distemper. His brother caught it as well and ive decided to treat him at home. (his brother went to the vet and didnt make it and ive heard that they may have a greater chance of survival at home) Hes on his 5th day but hasnt eaten since day 3 and was wondering If i can give him KMR. Hes been having pedialite and distempaid hourly but hes still losing weight. I also heard he can have raw egg yokes. If anybody has experience with this and know if KMR would be good or bad to give him let me know thanks!
I have heard the total opposite from rescue groups and vets themselves. They said its best to treat at home with pedialite and distempaid and the success rate for home treatment is as high as 50% compared to at a vet its about 10% . This disease is very deadly however the main point is to keep them alive long enough for their system to fight it off. I can do that at home just as good as at a vets (my kitty that went to the vet died at day 3, this one is at day 5 and every time we hold him he perks up so much. They need love as much as fluids . With such a low success rate i would tell anybody do treat it at home. It takes a lot of work giving fluids every hour day and night but its worth it. And for everybody wondering kmr is ok and so are egg yokes (but no whites!)
