What does it mean if a cat has white gums?

My kitty is acting tired and is sleeping a lot. He is hardly eating or using the restroom. I just checked inside his mouth and his gums are white. He has been tested for Feline AIDS and leukemia. The tests were negative. Can you please give me some suggestions as to what is wrong and to make him more comfortable. I will be taking him to the Vet tomorrow. Thank you in advance.
My cat is about 6 months old. He is an indoor cat and has not had any trauma that I am aware of. He is walking with his back legs sort of stiff like he is uncomfortable. When I pet him, he purrs, but he is just not acting like himself. He is just staying in his little house. He has drank a little water and some warm milk.

This kitten is about 6 weeks old and was rescued from a home of 30 other I assume feline leukemia positive cats. She also came to me underweight and suffering from the flu. She has runny eyes and nose and trouble breathing she is being treated with amoxicillin. She lived in a liquor store for a few days before I got her and they told me that she was using her littler box on a few occasions but most of the time she went on the ground. When I brought her home I showed her where her litter was and that night she peed in the opposite corner of the room. I then thoroughly cleaned the spot and put her littler box there. That night she peed and pooped behind my TV stand. I then took some of the poop and put it in her litter box and put her in it and told her what a good kitty she was for staying in there. That night she went behind the toilet in the bathroom. I thought it might be the litter so I switched from fresh step to
I switched from fresh step to Yesterday’s news and showed her that I placed the box behind the toilet, her new place of choice. That night she pooped behind the upstairs toilet even though she sleeps downstairs. I am out of ideas, could it be that the leukemia or her cold is making her not use the litter box? Anyone have any suggestions. I do not want to give up on her.

Thanks, I realize my question is long but I am desperate for help. We have a Vet appointment in a few days, but I am not confident that he will be able to help us.

Is Leukemia in cats caused by FLV?

I just found out that my oldest cat (he’s 11) that he may have Leukemia. I took him to the vet the other day because he was having diarrhea. He had blood drawn, and one of his test came back fine but his blood count came back iffy, the doctor said that it looked like Leukemia. But, she also said that when a cat is depressed sometimes tests can give false readings. (We moved recently and the kitty hasn’t taken to it so well, hides and such.) He still has an appetite, his bathroom habits are the same, the diarrhea has stopped. But, now I’ve noticed his leg is quite swollen, which worries me. If it is Leukemia, my question is this, is Leukemia only caused by the Feline Leukemia Virus or can cancer just develop? I have another cat, who was tested as a kitten and she didn’t have it. And as far as I can remember my oldest was tested as well and he was fine. They’re both indoor cats.

I have a male cat and female cat. My male cat (Tiger) is a bit of a nervous…well, everything. My girl cat not so much. Tiger has had a urethral obstruction and feline interstitial cystitis so when he gets stressed out and it can affect his health. My wife and I are planning a cross country move so Im trying to figure out if they need to stay in their cages the whole drive, how many potty/food breaks or if I should get some kitty xanax? Any guidance would be helpful! BTW I have not consulted with their vet (which I will b/c he knows both cats very well). Thanks!

I recnetly found a local animal store sell cats and dogs(with skin problems and other health problems),with no birth certificate or shot record.I want to know how to stop them to do this?
(As a victim I bought a kitty and donated almost200$ to his vets bill and now his skin problem spreaded to my other cats and myself.)
I’ll appreciate it a lot if you can give me any advice.:)

Quoted

does my cat need vaccinations?

i got my kitty when she was 6 months old, she was fully up to date with vaccinations and stuff at the time, and i took her to the vet for a checkup.

now shes 1 and a half years old, i got a letter from the vet, like a reminder for an annual checkup and saying that she is possibly due for more vaccinations.

i’ve heard a lot of different things about yearly vaccinations for pets, my other cat is 20 and never had them. i’ve heard that they only really need doing every 3 years and vets promote yearly checkups so they can make more money, i’ve heard that if vaccinations are done too regularly then they can cause cancer, etc. so i don’t know what to think.

should i get my cat vaccinated again? because she is so young and still needs them often when she is young? when she is older should i just get her vaccinated every 3 years?

i’m happy to spend the money to get her vaccinated regularly, i’ve heard it isn’t that expensive anyway, i am just wondering if the benefits outweigh the risks?

and the other thing is, do cats need an annual checkup if they seem perfectly healthy? i know i certainly don’t cart myself off to the doctor every year if i feel fine, but just thought i’d check.
also, shes an inside cat.

so no mice, birds, moles, etc.

maybe the occasional gecko. i think she’s found a gecko inside before and eaten it.
cheers guys! off to the vet we go…just out of curiosity, is there any reason that the vaccinations would be done when shes a year and a half instead of them being suggested when she was a year?

my kitty tested positive for feline leukemia…?

I finally found out after a month of an endless ear infection why it wouldnt clear up. After having been on fluids all day after becoming dehydrated on an antibiodics, my kitty was looking way better. I was so happy and felt a wave of uplift… then the vet called and told me that she tested positive. She said it is carried in three ways but isn’t sure how severe it is until she tests the bone marrow.
I am an absolute mess. This cat has been my companion for 11 years… when I was single she moved around with me. I am now married, across country with my 3 year old… through it all. I am scared, I feel super lost and sad and I can’t stop crying thinking about her spending her first night away from home in a cage with an IV. I HOPE TO GOD that it is the form that acts as a "carrier" or that she can fight it off … I just don’t know.
Has anyone ever ever ever been thorugh this? What was the prognosis?
If it was terrible… don’t answer. Or at least don’t be so graphic. I am just so freaking sad. :*( what’s messed up is I don’t even know it’s severity yet. I just cant imagine…

How to kill fleas on my pets and in my home?

Any suggestions? We have 2 cats and a dog. Usually we use advantage or revolution on our dog and our 2 cats, but it has been a few months since we have been able to get some more and I just saw a flea on my kitty! I placed an order for some flea stuff, but i hate the thought that they have fleas bugging them in the meantime. Does anyone have any suggestions for killing all the fleas safely without harming the pets? I would rather use something safe but if i cannot find anything, I will use revolution or advantage…or something like that. Thanks!

Our cat was recently diagnosed w/ FeLV. We are going to do everything possible to make sure he survives and has a great quality of life. I’m a little bit worried though b/c although I know that this is a species specific virus…I’m worried that my brothers baby (1yr old) that lives w/ us might catch something from the cat…some other virus. Has anyone lived w/ a FeLV cat and had small children? or other pets like dogs?
Thanks to everyone that has responded. This is the first time that we’ve experienced something like this so we’re very inexperienced and shocked. We love this cat and don’t want to get rid of him but at the same time we were worried about our other pet and the baby. Thanks for putting our fears to rest. We will do everything on our part to make sure our kitty gets better.

Pet Smart Banfield basic plus plan for kitten?

I just got a new kitty and I think I made the mistake of letting my family take care of setting up an appointment for him. Maybe it is a reasonable price, but I feel as though maybe going to an animal shelter or something for vaccinations would’ve been wiser.

Anyway, this Banfield plan my kitty is on is somewhere around 0 total for the year, and covers the following: otoscopic exam, ophthalmic exam, rectal, dental, neurologic, cardiovascular, weight, coat + skin, abdominal palpation, urogenital, musculoskeletal, pulmonary/lung eval, leukemia/AIDS, ear swab/microscopic exam, intestinal parasite fecal exams ( 3x) dewordm for roundworm/hookworms (4x) and lastly, the spaying/neutering.

Is this bogus or what?

Feline Leukemia Kitten

I’m moving into an apartment & am considering saving this cute positive kitten from work. If no one takes her she will be euthanized, but no one wants to kill her. She’s a very sweet diluted calico with striking yellow eyes. She probally won’t live long, but I work at a vet clinic so she could get excellent care. Knowing the day may come that I will have to euthanize her makes it a tough decision. Should I take her? If so what should I name her? What kind of special needs come with a kitty?
The tests show she is getting more positive & most of my coworkers want to find her an appropriate home. She is still very young- under 2mo. old- & the vets were hoping she would get better. She’s lively, eats & drinks well, plays, & loves attention. She doesn’t usually have well-formed stool, but she did today.

What to do about a kitten with no vaccinations?

My husband and I are planning to add a new kitty to our family. We have the money, the space, the time, and the love required to take care of another cat, so there’s no worries about that, but what worries me is the idea of him being in the house for even a day without vaccinations around our other two cats.

You see, my husbands friend from our hometown recently rescued a stray cat, and when he took her to the vet to be fixed, he found out she was pregnant. He decided to let her have the litter and once the kittens were old enough they’d go to the no kill shelter. He’s already called and they have an "appointment" to be dropped off at the shelter when they’re 8 weeks old. He told us that if we wanted a kitten, we could have one before he took the others to the shelter.

We picked out a small white male with black spots (he’s adorable) and we’re very excited to bring him home, but the problem is, our hometown is 3 hours away from our current home. The driving isn’t an issue, and we have a pet carrier and all that, but we have to go down on a day that we both have off work, and the soonest available day is on a Sunday. Our vet’s office isn’t open on Sundays, so at the very least, he’ll be in our house overnight without the opportunity to get him his vaccinations.

My question is, will my other two cats be okay if I lock the new kiddo in a separate room until he gets his vaccinations? Both Cora and Callie have had their FeLV, Rabies, and Distemper vaccinations updated within the past few months, and they’d be in a completely different room of the house. The mother of the kittens has been tested and is not a carrier of FeLV, Rabies, or Distemper, but as we cannot verify who the sire is, we don’t know if he was a carrier of any of these diseases.

Will my girls be safe if he’s quarantined? I don’t feel it’s fair to ask my husband’s friend to shoulder the expense of getting the kitten vaccinations, especially if quarantining the kitten in a different room would be safe. I understand I can reimburse my husband’s friend, and if that’s the only solution that will work, I’ll have to set something up with him, but if there’s a way to do this without overextending his generosity, I’d like to handle the situation that way.

Your answer is appreciated! Thank you!
