My Feline Leukemia Positive Cat stopped eating.?

I’ve had my cat for a little over 2 years now. She was tested positive for Feline Leukemia as a kitten. She’s been doing really great until recently. I took her to the vet for her rabies vaccination a little less than a week ago, and now she won’t even touch her food. She just hides under the bed all day, and drinks water.

I normally feed her all dry food, but I tried to switch to wet food because she wasnt eating. She seems to like the wet food, but will only drink the liquid. If she gets any solid, she’ll immediatly spit it out.

I’ve got a vet appointment scheduled, but I was wondering if there was anything else I could do in order to get my best friend to eat again.
I do not have any other cats in my home.

What to do with stray cats?

There was a female cat left behind when a couple moved from our town. They lived next to us. The female cat is not spayed of course and it was left outside to defend for itself. Male cats come down near our house because they know there are females. The one female multplied into a bunch more, but now there are only two adult females left overall because the elements must have gotten the best of them. Those two females then had a litter of kittens each producing about 8-9 kittens. Again the elements took over and now there are four kittens left. Aside from that we had already caught two adults who unfortunately passed away due to health problems. We have been feeing them continuously since we knew they were there. My sister is verya tatched to them and now calls them her "outside cats". The male cats are coming around again meaning that the there are at least now 3 reproductive females, hence, more lil kittens. We have don’t really have a local spca, the cloest is a hr away and the so called organization around here will not return my emails when I ask for help with them. Anyway, my sisters wants to be able to keep them but they are wild now and they do have Feline Leukemia because the two that had passed away had it. I have two cats inside of my own. We are wondering how we can help them. She had plans of building a house-like building for them but would that work seeing how they are wild? What other options are there?

A question about feline leukemia?

An adorable kitten entered my life. He looks about 10 weeks old and appears healthy. Good weight and no fleas or ear mites. He was in an isolated abandoned junk yard. I hope to get him to the vet as soon as possible for a check up and shots. But in the meantime I worry. How likely is it that he could have feline leukemia? I have two other cats not vaccinated for this disease.

I have a question about my cats health…?

About 3 and a half weeks ago my cat began sneezing. I did some research and felt that I should take him to the veterinarian as I learned upper respiratory can be very serious. He went to the vet and they gave me some antibiotics and after about a week the sneezing had stopped. Then about a week later he wasn’t acting like himself, hiding in the closet and under the bed all day, walking around really sluggish, and finally stopped eating. When I felt him he was really hot. So off to the veterinarian we went again. The said he had a fever of 105 (a normal high temp in cats is 103) and he had lost a pound. They ran some blood tests and found nothing, they gave him a baby aspirin and broke his fever and he was then back to his normal self. Well another week goes by and he begins to exhibit some of the above behaviors again. So again off to the vet but this time a different one our old vet as we had recently moved in the last 3 months. This vet then says he had a fever again and they ran a Feline Leukemia and Aids test and they were negative (thank god). He is coming home today; they plan to give me some meds for him for 2wks for infections as they think he had a residual infection from the virus (sneezing) he had earlier. As a side not about a month again we bought a Bamboo Palm and he has been nibbling on it. To keep him from doing this I put a product called Bitter Apple on it. Also about two weeks ago we bought one of those cinnamon brooms used as a decorative item to scent the house and noticed he was nibbling on that as well. My question is has any one had an experience like this with their cat and did you ever get a clear answer as to what was wrong with your pet?
Well the vet kind of ruled out allergies as he never gave me steroids for the cat but just gave him Clavamox and he stopped sneezing and hasn’t sneezed since. Although he may not have allergies (watery eyes, sneezing) he may be "allergic" to something… hmmm… I just read that some allergic side effect to Clavamox is a fever and a side affect is a loss of appetite … hmmm…

feline leukemia shot side effects?

My cat is an indoor-outdoor cat and he is 8 months old. He just got the feline leukemia shot. He has been acting a little strange. He doesn’t want to come in the house and he doesn’t purr when I pet him. He also has been sleepy. Is this normal?

I used to take my kitty to an old country veterinarian. He’d just listened to the lungs, heart and palpate the abdomen. Everything okay - . Now that he’s retired, I’ve started going to this new clinic with young vets. Take kitty in, wait 2 hours in reception area, taken in to exam room. Wait another hour. Vet comes in. Weights kitty, listens to heart and lungs, palpates abdomen, checks ears, checks for flea dirt, looks in mouth and under tail, takes rectal swab to check for parasites and draws blood for more tests. Now kitty, who seems perfectly healthy to I’m told needs: flea repellent, antibiotic solution for scratch on ear, some kind of medicine to put in ears for infection/mites, medicine for intestinal parasites, vaccinations for rabies, leukemia, distemper and feline enteritis. Gets teeth cleaned and claws trimmed. Bill now over 0. Is this the norm now or am I getting soaked by over-excessive and unnecessary tests and treatments?

i took in a cat from a guy that said he was moving and couldn’t take his cat with him. we found the cat a new home…today the people called and said he tested pos. for feline leukemia. no vet is open for me to ask and I’m not very good on the internet, finding what I’m looking for. so please if there is a vet or equally educated person..please help.. the most important thing i am worried about is my family.can they get it? i have a 4yr old who gives kisses to kitty(i know its gross and try to make sure he doesn’t but have missed a few I’m sure). and the kids have been scratched while playing with the cats..
also what should i do for the our own cats, now that they have been exposed(yes i am taking them all in first thing monday to be tested). like how do i clean up so it wont spread or stay in my house and on my property? help!!

Should I have my kitten tested for Feline Leukemia?

I had my now 4 month old kitten to the vet for his booster shots, and asked the vet to check his eyes because one was smaller than the other and I wanted to be sure of what was wrong.

The vet said that one of his pupils are fixed, and that he could go blind in that eye and as it is he has poor vision in it. I have to decide if I can afford to pay for the eye specialist when he is in, but I’ll start saving money since that’s not til September.

The vet said that I could be a sign of feline leukemia, and that I could test him when he gets fixed. But from what I’ve read there’s no cure, and treatment is expensive and doesn’t work all the time.

I have no other cats and no plans to have anymore cats, he’s an indoor only cat (he HATES the outside, scared of cars), and perfectly healthy otherwise. Would it be better to just not know?

Feline Leukemia?

My 2-year-old male cat has reoccurring sore spots on and around his head, and neck. He’s an adopted stray, so we don’t really know his history so to speak and he’s also an outdoor cat. Has he contracted something, or does anyone know what it could be? Thnx!
I’m really worried because someone told me about a cat they knew who started out with the same symptoms and then ended up having feline leukemia!

My 1 1/2 year old cat shared an occasional water/food bowl and litter box with a rescue kitten for about a week and a half. I don’t have the money for extra vet visits, so I didn’t get to take the kitten in to get him checked out. I did try to prevent the sharing for a while, but I couldn’t keep my eye on them at all times, and my apartment is too small to have kept them completely separate.

I’ve read a lot of conflicting information about things like FIV and how it’s transmitted. Should I be concerned? They never fought or scratched or bit each other, in fact my cat stayed very far from the kitten for the most part. She did not like him at all! What worries me is the saliva from sharing food/water/toys.

More about the kitten: He was only with me from January 27 - February 13; I found him a home. If need be I can still contact the person I gave him to. Of course, I don’t know what his health was like. He was found by a dumpster, most likely abandoned, though he probably wasn’t outside for very long. He was very clean with no cuts or bites on him, his ears didn’t look chewed on and his teeth were good, paws didn’t show signs of living outdoors… (I had a tomcat once who was primarily an outdoor cat, and his ears/teeth/paws were terrible. This kitten was nothing like that. The tomcat died from feline leukemia though, which is why I’m so paranoid about taking in strays now!) He was a very energetic little guy, did the whole crazy 5-minute run around thing, also extremely curious and mischievous! He sure loved to get into everything, and he’d eat anything if you’d let him. (Though on that note, I did keep an eye out for worms and didn’t see any sign of them. He actually gained weight and grew a little while I had him.) It makes me think he has a clean bill of health on him, but he wasn’t neutered, so perhaps he hadn’t been to the vet in a while? He was about half the size of my cat, so I think he was maybe 6 or 7 months old.

Any/all input would be lovely, especially advice from seasoned cat owners! Should I book my cat a vet appointment for blood tests and the like? Or am I being silly?
I almost forgot to add: My cat is up-to-date on her vaccinations.
She does have allergies though! It’s a seasonal thing, her skin gets very dry and she’ll itch a lot.
And she’s been spayed, of course… Though that’s very interesting about toms and mating, oh dear.

Feline leukemia……?

So I just found out my cat has leukemia. :( I don’t know much about it. I just know it’s bad. Could you guys tell me more about it? And what’s the chance of survival. Thanks.
A few days ago she started to drop pounds. She’s eating though. Not often but when she does she eats a lot. She doesn’t seem to want to move around a lot. She;s been laying down on my bed for about 2 days besides when my mom took her to the vet. I’ll ask my mom about it later. Thanks guys.
