Questions about Feline Leukemia Virus test?

I have a 3 month old kitten and a 3 year old cat that were tested for FeLV because they were living with a FeLV + cat for quite some time.

The vet said they are both negative and 99% sure that they are not carriers of the virus (and they’re now vaccinated against it) so does that mean they were not exposed to FeLV in the whole period of time that they were living with the positive cat? Or could they have been exposed and just killed off the virus?
Even though the test was negative and 99% I’m just so paranoid because the kitten is related to the other cat who had FeLV
So basically there is 99% certainty that neither of the cats will ever get FeLV in their lifetime?
I have vaccinated all my other cats against Feline Leukemia and I have thrown out old toys, litter boxes, and food dishes and basically disinfected the entire house

I just discovered that my 1.5 year old cat has Leukemia ( I have to put her down tomorrow :( )
and I was just wondering if any of my other (3) cats could be at risk. Last year, all of my cats including the one with leukemia had their vaccinations against FeLV but this wasn’t until 2 months after I brought home the one that had leukemia.
So could my other cats get leukemia in that period of time before they got vaccinated, or can they only spread it once the infected cat shows symptoms? They recently got their vaccinations for this year but I have no idea if they could be carrying the virus or not
"Café Mocha Valencia"
I actually brought this cat home from a farm where it was skinny and suffering, and all of my cats are indoor cats. Why would you even say I’m irresponsible? That’s such an inappropriate comment

I have two cats, and one was just diagnosed with feline leukemia. The other has been vaccinated against it. What should I do? I don’t want to get rid of the FeLV postive one. The vet said that since my other cat was vaccinated, he’ll be fine, but I’m reading things on the internet that say otherwise.

I just took my new kitten (5 weeks old) to the vet and she was tested positive for feline leukemia. I have been keeping her separate from my two other cats in a separate room. The vet suggested I wait a month and have her retested. What if she is retested and she is negative. Does that mean she doesn’t have it anymore? Will she ever be able to be with my other cats in the house. I don’t know what to do? Help

Pet Smart Banfield basic plus plan for kitten?

I just got a new kitty and I think I made the mistake of letting my family take care of setting up an appointment for him. Maybe it is a reasonable price, but I feel as though maybe going to an animal shelter or something for vaccinations would’ve been wiser.

Anyway, this Banfield plan my kitty is on is somewhere around 0 total for the year, and covers the following: otoscopic exam, ophthalmic exam, rectal, dental, neurologic, cardiovascular, weight, coat + skin, abdominal palpation, urogenital, musculoskeletal, pulmonary/lung eval, leukemia/AIDS, ear swab/microscopic exam, intestinal parasite fecal exams ( 3x) dewordm for roundworm/hookworms (4x) and lastly, the spaying/neutering.

Is this bogus or what?

My friends had this cat but wasn’t able to care for it anymore so she gave him to me. I already had two cats and couldn’t take on a third at the time so I gave the cat to a nice man I met off craigslist. He said Falcor (the cat) was doing great and loved his house. Sadly 2-4 weeks after this the man messaged me and told me that Falcor had died of Feline Leukemia and that the vet had tried to save him but it was to late and Falcor gave up his will to live. I have a 3 yrs old cat named Shadow and a 10 yr old cat named Diamonds. Within the past couple of months Shadows weight had been going up and down and he is even going to the bathroom in my room a little bit (he is litter box trained). It is not like him to do that…Diamonds doesn’t seem to have any symptoms of it, but I am still worried for both. I do not have the money to pay a vet rate now but will some vets do it for free and then I can pay them back within a certain amount of time? I will pay them back when I get a job (as I am only 16). For those who have heard about Riverside Animals Clinic in Lisbon Falls Maine USA do you know if they will do it. And if someone can give me all the info they know about this disease it would be very helpful. Thank you!

help with feline leukemia?

I’m really worried that my cat is susceptible to feline leukemia as my brothers cat, Domino, has just died from it 2 days ago. this is my first cat so i didn’t know much but i found out its contagious! my cat use to share the same bowl to eat and drink out of and even the same litter box. He doesn’t have his shots yet either, I plan to take him to finally get vaccinated on the 21st, but im afraid im too late. when i got home after Domino passed away i did my research and found it was contagious so i cleaned the bowls, changed the litter box and cleaned it, and even took him a shower. My cat sleeps all over the house though but i read the virus dies in a couple hours. I need help and I’m scared, do you think he has felv and if he does and its at early stage, is it curable? I dont have money to get him the test so is there also a way i can check if he does have it this early? any help will be fine, thank you.

I also plan to get him more food that will make his immune system stronger as i heard felv targets the immune system? should I?

My cat has been diagnosed with feline leukemia. I have spoken with the vet about it, but I want to hear it from some one who has gone through it.

my kitten has been tested for feline leukemia?

My 3 month old kitten had a first blood test and tested positive for feline leukemia! This is my first time dealing with something like this and I’m not sure what to do or think about it. I have heard that kittens can die really fast from it or that other kittens live for a long time. We have to get her tested again in 2 months to see if it’s a false positive, and also we have to get my other cat tested again to see if she was a false negative.
Is there anyone that has gone through this, what did you do, how did you get past it. I guess I am just looking for someone else that had this experience and things turned out ok. I just need to know what I may or may not have in store for me… Thanks

Feline leukemia and fleas…?

My cat has feline leukemia, she is in a healthy cycle right now…meaning she hasn’t had any sicky flareups or anything lately. The worst she’s gotten so far is bad abscesses. She is an inside cat with no other animals but she’s picked up fleas. Is it ok to give her Frontline?

My vet doesn’t take phone calls like these and I’d have to make an appointment just to ask a question, so I’d like to find out without doing so. Thanks!
Amy – Thanks, my vet told me a lot about it too, she was a rescued cat that I adopted not long ago and I don’t know how, but I guess she just slipped through any testing for it. I took her in to the vest because of a huuuge abscess near her back leg and the vet said she probably had it, said that there was no real need to test her because they often have false negatives, but that in her "opinion" she probably had it. My vet was kinda pushing to put her down then, but I decided to try the antibiotics and she responded very well to them, but still gets abscesses every now and then. I know that if she does have it, it’s fatal, but I’m waiting to put her down until it seems bad for her. That poor kitty’s had such a rough life, I want her to have the best of what’s left before she goes. :(

I have two indoor cats (brothers, approx. 4 years old). Today I came home and saw both of them sitting next to the window screen, with an outdoor cat of unknown origin (on the other side of the screen, of course!). I have no idea how friendly these cats got, although they appeared to be sitting (more or less) contentedly, on their respective sides of the screen. The outdoor cat seems very friendly and not overly mangy, but I’ve shooed her/him away repeatedly and lowered the storm window because I’m scared of contagious diseases. The cats had their respiratory and rabies shots, but we’ve discontinued the leukemia shots last year because we decided it wasn’t necessary/a good idea for indoor cats. Should I worry that they’ve been exposed to something contagious? Should I keep my indoor cats from contact with this other cat? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I’ve had Charlie for 4 years and he never tested positive before. I got 2 more kitties last summer and they were neg. also. About 1 and 1/2 mo. ago, Charlie had problems yawning and eating and we took him to the vet who treated him for gingivitus and pulled a tooth. He was put on anti-biotics and never improved. He was 17 pounds and now down to 12. He whines and screeches in pain alot, won’t eat, and today the vet tested him positive for Fel. Leukemia and said Charlie has an ulcer on his tongue. What do I do? He recommended a special diet (that is if I can get him to eat).
I’m worried about the other 2 cats. We are taking them in the morning to get checked out. I don’t want any of them to suffer, but I don’t want the virus to spread either.
They are all indoors and the other 2 were healthy and still appear to be. We do what we can but now what?
Anyone else experience a cat with Fel. L that could email me with some suggestions? Thank you ahead of time. >^..^<

4 2week old kittens were given to me, they are now 3weeks old, 3 days ago, the big male kitten, was acting strangely like if he was drunk, couldn’t get his footing right, he passed away, today i was getting ready to bottle feed the remaining 3, and the big female kitten is acting the same way, she is acting like if she is drunk cant get her footing right, ive never had kittens so young die on me, was wondering what are some signs that cat show when they are dying of leukemia, the owner of this kittens just mention to me right now that she had a previous cat that died from leukemia don’t know if the momma of this cat was near that cat, they found the momma in there front yard dead, ive always taken in stray kittens and bottle fed them till they were old enough to have new homes, and this is the first time i have kittens that are perfectly healthy one minute then the next there acting sick, this is the second kitten, the first kitten was a big black male kitten, this one is a female black kitten, both were the same age, they are 3weeks old going on 4weeks old
there acting like if there drunk, cant get there footing right and tip over, also this kitten is acting a bit crazy jumping all over the place, this 3 kittens are kept indoors and i do have 5 kittens outside with there momma cat, they did come into contact with each other, about 2weeks ago, but the outside kittens are all doing fine, the kitten that passed away two days ago, i buried him in my yard, and am using diapers, as there bedding, so whatever they get dirty i throw away in the trash, after touching them, i always wash my hands, can feline leukemia be passed on to humans,
they dont have any of those symptoms, she was fine 2hours ago, got them up to put in another cage, to clean the cage they were just in, was getting ready to wipe there bottoms to make them pee and poop, when i noticed she wasnt responding well, she does not have any cuts on her, or bad coat or anything of that, it just happened out of nowhere
the boy kitten that died 2 days ago, he was fine one minute, then i check on him 2hours later, to stimulate them to make them pee and poop, then to feed them, and he was acting very drunk, around 2hours later he had passed away, so there is no weight loss, it happens very quickly and they die very quickly, there not even my kittens, the owner told me to bottle feed them cause she didnt know how, i already talk to her, and she said that she thinks that the momma cat was poisoned then she fed the kittens then went outside and died, she thinks that the poison is bearly taking place right now, am really stressing out, ive never had young animals die on me, ive taken in several 12day old kittens, i own 2 one is 5yrs old now, and the other is 2 1/2 years old, then the others ive rehomed, but these kittens, they just started getting sick out of nowhere, like i said i put them down at 1:30am for there nap, i check on them at 3:30, and the black kitten was acting very drunk, she is now asleep
when i touch her, she freaks out and jumps everywhere, any slight noise upsets her, dont know whats going on, its 4am, right now, dont know what to do i have her on a heating pad, its set to low, i put a blanket over it, so it wouldnt be to warm for her
dont know what happened, but the black girl kitten was up and crying to be fed within 3 hours, she is acting normally now, eating, and doing fine, she would have a spasm every time i would pick her up, she would kick her legs really badly like she was having a spasm attack, from being touched, but she is doing better,

Should I test them for feline leukemia or not?

I have two cats that are both like my babies. I found them in my neighborhood where there are a ton of cats about three months ago. They are in perfect condition. They play a LOT, eat normally and everything else. They are both 6 month old brothers. I got them neutered a week or two ago. They are both strictly indoors now and never go outside. What’s the point of testing them for leukemia? I got them vaccinated for it already and they have their rabies vaccination too even though they will never ever go outside.

I mean seriously, what’s the point? If I do find out i will be miserable and depressed until they die and never truly be happy even when they’re by my side cuz I’ll know it’s coming to an end. At least now I don’t think about it that much. I feed them both EVO and Wellness so it’s not like it’s bad food. I treat them very well. I even think their mom is alive so if she did pass it on to them then she’d be dead, but she’s not.

I have money to get one tested tomorrow. Only one brother. That means if that one has it then this one has it too because they’re very close and have been together their whole life. Now I’m hoping they don’t have it. Their are plenty of feral and stray cats in my neighborhood that would all die off and not be as healthy if they did have the virus.
Actually I don’t think I KNOW their mom is alive.
Yes OF COURSE I am never letting any other cat close to them…they haven’t been tested yet, I know that.

Could my cats have feline leukemia?

A stray cat that I turned into the animal shelter I volunteer at was euthanised for leukemia and a skin disease. I picked up my cats from that same area that cat was in about 4 months ago. Since then I took them to the vet a few times, got them vaccinated, neutered, checked out, etc. Vets never said anything about them looking ill. In fact, they are in great shape. They are about 7 or 8 months old. I never got them tested. Could they have it too? Since that other cat in the same neighborhood had it? i am freaking, have been crying nonstop…I love these cats.
