I have a cat who is 20 years old. I give him special food for his kidneys and a feline joint health gel I add to his food. He walks very slowly doesn’t seem to be in any kind of pain because I carry him often and he doesn’t complain. I have had him all my life and the only problem is that he is blind and he pees all over my house. He does #2 outside in the back yard or in the litter box but #1 he wants to do anywhere around my house. So the smell is horrible and I constantly have to watch him when he is inside and cleaning up after him. So my question is should I put him down already. He is very old but he gets around and still walks, eats, etc. The problem is with the peeing since he is blind. And I can’t fill the floor up with pads because I don’t know where he will pee next. I also have used a lot of cleaners that say that the cat won’t come back to same area again but that doesn’t seem to work. Has anyone had this problem? Should I keep trying or just put him down already after all he has had a full life.

It’s been about 3 years of taking my cat to different vets. I tired him on a high fiber diet. I gave him laxatives and I even tried giving him mashed pumpkin in a can. That I read about as a remedy.

Every time he poops he moans. Some times I see blood but that’s not often. And he has not gone poop in his litter box in a very long time.

He’s severely dehydrated and I’m trying to help him increase his chances of surviving by feeding him gatorade, per vets instructions, through a syringe type thing, with a nozzle instead of a needle, but he clenches his teeth and fights, and spits most of it out.

That’s the only time he shows any energy. He’s so sick he’s been sleeping in his litter box because he doesn’t have the energy to crawl out.

Even with the best of care, his chances of living until Sunday, when the first critical 5 to 6 days are over, is only 25%.

My 1 1/2 year old cat shared an occasional water/food bowl and litter box with a rescue kitten for about a week and a half. I don’t have the money for extra vet visits, so I didn’t get to take the kitten in to get him checked out. I did try to prevent the sharing for a while, but I couldn’t keep my eye on them at all times, and my apartment is too small to have kept them completely separate.

I’ve read a lot of conflicting information about things like FIV and how it’s transmitted. Should I be concerned? They never fought or scratched or bit each other, in fact my cat stayed very far from the kitten for the most part. She did not like him at all! What worries me is the saliva from sharing food/water/toys.

More about the kitten: He was only with me from January 27 - February 13; I found him a home. If need be I can still contact the person I gave him to. Of course, I don’t know what his health was like. He was found by a dumpster, most likely abandoned, though he probably wasn’t outside for very long. He was very clean with no cuts or bites on him, his ears didn’t look chewed on and his teeth were good, paws didn’t show signs of living outdoors… (I had a tomcat once who was primarily an outdoor cat, and his ears/teeth/paws were terrible. This kitten was nothing like that. The tomcat died from feline leukemia though, which is why I’m so paranoid about taking in strays now!) He was a very energetic little guy, did the whole crazy 5-minute run around thing, also extremely curious and mischievous! He sure loved to get into everything, and he’d eat anything if you’d let him. (Though on that note, I did keep an eye out for worms and didn’t see any sign of them. He actually gained weight and grew a little while I had him.) It makes me think he has a clean bill of health on him, but he wasn’t neutered, so perhaps he hadn’t been to the vet in a while? He was about half the size of my cat, so I think he was maybe 6 or 7 months old.

Any/all input would be lovely, especially advice from seasoned cat owners! Should I book my cat a vet appointment for blood tests and the like? Or am I being silly?
I almost forgot to add: My cat is up-to-date on her vaccinations.
She does have allergies though! It’s a seasonal thing, her skin gets very dry and she’ll itch a lot.
And she’s been spayed, of course… Though that’s very interesting about toms and mating, oh dear.

cat with lots of problems?

I have a 7 year old female cat that was not spaded and never vaccinated. She has feline leukemia virus. X-rays show that she has a growth on one of her kidneys and chest x-rays show that she has abnormality in one of her lungs. Ultra sound shows that she has multiple growths on her uterus. I was told that all of these growths have probably been there for a very long time which makes me wonder if they are even effecting her health at all. Her blood work shows that all of her organs are working fine. She was very healthy and very active until suddenly (and I mean sudden!) she started showing neurological problems. She has a lot of trouble moving and controlling her legs and she keeps having what look like little seizures. The vets don’t really know what is wrong with her but are guessing that she has cancer from the leukemia which spread to her brain. they told me the options are to either have her uterus removed so that they can test the growths (which is just silly because the surgery could kill her and has no chance of helping her condition) or euthanize her (which is absurd because she has the will to live. she still tries to walk and she still eats and drinks and tries to use the litter box). So I brought her home so that if she does die she will be comfortable and happy. I was thinking maybe I should get a MRI to look at her brain, is this a good idea? and also in my untrained opinion I think the growths are not effecting her and that her problem is either cancer in the brain or spinal cord or an infection in the brain spinal cord or even blood. Is there any way to find out if this is the case? and what are your opinions in general? what do you think I should do?

What are the symptoms of feline kidney failure?

My cat has been drinking excessively and now her litter box is so saturated within a day or two that the clumping cat litter looks like mud. She has now just started losing huge clumps of hair. I know if I take her to the vet that they will want to run lots of expensive tests which I don’t have alot of money for. If someone can help me decifer if this is kidney failure it would be nice. She is over 20 years old and I unfortunately would only bring her in to have her put down if she is really sick.

I am worried that i might have a kitten with Distemper. We are taking him to the vet later today.

We already have a grown male cat who has been vaccinated for Distemper. We are keeping the kitten away form him just in case, and use seperate food/water bowls and litter box.

Is there a chance, IF the kitten has Distemper, that my vaccinated older cat can get it?

How do you use Feline Pine regular cat litter?

Like…
* How many inches should I put in the litter box?
* How often should I change the litter (for 2 cats)?
* Any helpful tips?

Thanks a bunch! I’m getting tired of lugging home heavy bags of cat litter every week and I feel like this would be a step in the right direction.
Also, have you found any "complaints" on the floor from unhappy kitties?

The other day, I witnessed a kitten (I’m estimating her to be between 10 and 12 weeks old) wandering down my road. This evening stroll nearly cost her her life, as a car nearly got her. Mind you, my road is between two major roads, so it’s dangerous for animals. I can’t say for sure whether or not she’s a stray, but there are some signs that she did have a home. She’s litter box trained, but at the same time, she’s very skittish around people. It’s taken many hours of work to get her used to me, but she’s coming along slowly but surely. I can also honestly say that, when I lured her over to me with a can of tuna, she ate it up like she hadn’t eaten in weeks. I can feel her spinal chord and ribs with no effort, so I’m concerned on that front. Other than that, she LOOKS healthy. I’m looking into local vets to see how much it would cost to have her checked out, just to make sure all is well. My question is this, what will the vets do as far as vaccinations? If she had a home at some point, I have no idea if she’s had her shots or not. Is there any way the vet can find evidence of vaccinations? I just want to make sure that she gets a clean bill of health, and it stays that way. Also, how are Petco’s vaccination clinics? Are their vets any good? They’re doing a clinic in a couple of weeks, where they also do FIV and Feline Leukemia testing, so I figured I’d see what others thought of their service and quality. Lastly, how long should I wait to have her spayed?
Also, IF in the off chance she did once have a home and IF she was Frontlined, would I be able to Frontline her just to be on the safe side? I’m scared to do it, because I don’t want to hurt her if she had already had it done.
I’m happy to report that I’ve made an appointment with a local vet. She’s been eating wet food (Friskies) and Purina Kitten chow. I haven’t SEEN signs of worms, but I believe that’s something the vet will be checking out.

A few weeks ago I posted a question about my new kitten, Landon, who refuses to use the litter box. So many people suggested that we switch to the Feline Pine, so we did. At first it seemed extremely hopeful, when I was pouring the litter in, he sat and acted like he was extremely interested in the new stuff. However, when it came time to use the bathroom, he went to his usual spot(s). His bill of health is clean, he’s neutered, he’s not mentally incompetent, so, honestly, I can’t find a reason for him to not use the litter box. We adopted him through a program called No More Homeless Pets and his foster mom said that he was litter trained. I’m unsure of what to do now. All three of our cats are indoor only, it’s healthier on them, and I refuse to put him outside. I have a mentally incompetent cat that can not use the litter box and we use puppy diapers on her. It works fairly well and I was considering doing the same thing with my kitten. Not as a permanent solution, mind you, just something to let him feel his own mess and whenever we clean it, bring his mess to the litter box and have him watch us place it in there. If anyone has any better solutions, they would be greatly appreciated!
