My cat has feline leukemia does he have much time?

He hasn’t been eating for a while, but his colon was blocked and they unblocked it, but now hes not eating anything, and I have to give half a pill every 12 hours and he should eat in 24, but it’s almost been 12 hours and he still hasn’t eaten. He walks around the house just pacing, and he tries to squeeze between corners that he has no way of getting through and then starts meowing if he gets stuck, but he doesn’t want us to get him out, he wants to walk forward. He just gets mad if we pull him back. He doesn’t rub up against anyone or responds if someone pets him. He will just pace around, and then lay down. I figure that there is no hope for him. I think that by friday we will be putting him down. Do you think that maybe he will go back to normal? It’s worse I think to have him walk around like that then to be dead. I think it’s harder anyways. They did give him some medication, but that was over 24 hours ago and it wasn’t that much the vet said she would use only a little to make him calm during x rays. He has been pacing for a couple of days now, but not to the point of running into walls. I wish that I can say goodbye to my normal cat. Do you think he’ll get any better?
he is 10 years old and was just diagnosed today, but had been getting skinnier for almost a month, and his colon was blocked and now unblocked, but he is still not eating.

Feline AIDS (FIV)…. Vet waiting for call!?

My cat started losing weight a year or two ago and he was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. He never really gained the weight back and I did worry about his health some but we were doing all we could. He’s been on pills for that. Two days ago, when he got up, he was making weird sounds and attempting to throw up, but without doing so. I called the vet but also thought he was coughing up a furball.

The vet did a blood test and he has feline AIDS, or FIV. He is critical now; it is apparently in an advanced stage. He does look to be in discomfort and very lethargic and such. Can anyone tell me something about this such as… Well, the vet said I could bring him home on pain medication if I wanted. They are waiting for me to call and say what to do. I don’t want the cat to suffer but I also don’t want to euthanize him if he could maybe recover enough to live happy for awhile.

Does anyone have experience with this disease? What should I do? I said I would call within an hour or so. Thanks.

P.S. This cat is the only reason I have to live at all. There is NOTHING else good in my life. The only reason I ever get up at all is because I know he will be around.

health Dr.s say "you have [this horrible disease/illness] take [this drug] to get over it." medication helps you get better, your health insurance covers the medication.

eye Dr.s says "you are [nearsighted] you need glasses" you chose the frames, then the Dr gives whoever needs it that prescription. the glasses improve your eyesight. your health insurance covers the glasses.

therapists are Dr’s. your therapist says "man, are you crrrraaaaa-Z! take this [anti-phsycosis medication]" you take it, get better, your health insurance covers the pills.

therapists are Dr’s. they are the ones that say "you have [this psychiatric problem] you should get a service dog" you pay hundreds of dollars for the dog/dog supplies, then finally, if you had to train the dog yourself(or with help which costs $$), or if you are on a waiting list, after possibly months, or a year, you get the dog. the dog HELPS, just like the medication, glasses and anti-psychosis medication does.

why doesnt health insurance cover the dog?
D.R.Brushmore: that makes sence, but if a DR says "take this drug" and that makes it legal for you to have the drug/medication.

if the terapist says you should get a PSD, than its kinda more than a pet, and even falls under the ADA, allowed in stores/resturaunts, and applies to the fair housing acts. so you can have the dog where your normally wouldnt, i hoped i eplained it ok, but it just seems kinda ironic.

Most politicians stand up and talk about how they’re going to fix health care. The free markets have failed health care, etc.

However, isn’t it the politicians who have forced Hospitals to give away free services? Try setting up a Hot Dog stand with the government telling you that you have to give them away for free to anyone who asks. How long will you stay in business?

They’ve allowed lawyers to sue doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies to no end.

If you write a book or a song (in a matter of days) you can get royalties from that for decades to come. Cure cancer, and after paying millions, sometimes billions to discover and market it, nearly 1 billion to get it FDA approved, you have only 7 years to earn back what you’ve put into it and make a profit so that you have capital to cure something else.

Don’t we want people taking risks to cause disease and allow them to profit greatly if they do?

So, isn’t it government that screwed it up and want more govt. to fix it?
I’m not going to claim that all medical providers, insurance companies, and pharmaceuticals are saints, however the free market will push prices down. It’s not those things that has made the system as screwed up as it is.
You make some good points and I agree with you that physicians can and should be sued when there is negligance. However it’s become a new type of lottery among patients and lawyers. How many of us have had a day at work without making a mistake, yet we expect perfection from doctors. If a doctor is operating druk or removes the wrong kidney, that’s an appropriate lawsuit, however most are frivolous.

for your medication….did you account for the R&D, insurance, FDA approval, marketing, and all other expenses that were incurred by that division while they were developing that drug? My guess is that the pill that cures cancer will only cost about to manufacture as well.
Doctors go to extreme lengths to get the education that they do. And the cost goes well beyond the time and the money. These are the poeple who help us heal when we’re sick or fix us when we’re hurt.

Doctors have to work more and more, they make less and less, and have to put up with more crap than ever. Again, the message we’re sending is: "If you work hard, and make good money, maybe we can sue you and take it all away".

30 years ago there was a lot more motivation to be a doctor than there is today. In Nevada it’s VERY difficult to get an appointment with an OBGYN….even if you’re pregnant.

Who will you feel sorry for when your spouse dies because there’s no physicain available to remove her burst appendix??? Shouldn’t we make it good for people to do things that are good for us rather than bad???

How much would you have to make to incur 200k in debt while you went to school for 12 years after high school (getting only top grades)???

Pet Insurance? Any Experiences?

Our dog recently had to have very costly emergency surgery and we are considering getting pet insurance, so that in the event that this ever happens again we’ll be prepared. We have two dogs and estimate that we spend between 00 and 00 a year on preventative medication and vet bills. Just wondering what people’s experiences have been with pet insurance. Is it really worth it? We love our dogs and consider them our children, we’d like to not have to think about money when it comes to making descisions that affect their health.

How long until vaccinations effect?

I have a 4month old female pomeranian. She just had her THIRD vaccination
1st vaccine : dewormed & vaccinated (basic)
2nd : dewormed & vaccinated
3rd. dewormed, vaccinated, rabies & on kennel cough medication (she was caught with a small symptom of it)

the kennel cough medication is used the day after for appx 2 days then a week later she will have offical kennel cough shot

My dog also has puppy classes on sunday, and today she was shot on friday.. Do you think it’s a good idea for her to go? or skip this class and redo it again at another time? or is it okay? How long does it take for the shots to affect the dog’s system? a day?

ps : all pet’s at the training class are all vaccinated with certificate (up to date) ALL SHOTS puppy class from 3-6 months of age
note : my puppy training was talking to me over the phone before the first class started (it was inprivate cause I missed one) and she was anxious to see my dog’s medical record or to remind me to bring it.. I told her that I would get the shot on the same day as her first PRIVATE lesson (she will have access to other dogs in the lesson nexts class due to her late sign up)
note : she’s already sore

My cat was diagnosed with feline leukemia on the 2nd of July for the first week she did not eat or drink anything that we did not give her with a syringe. She has started eating, although significantly less than before, drinking as well. She has also after round and a half of amoxil started playing in the last two days, not much but..

Anyway..one of the suggestions I got from someone here was a website for Imulan, all the info looked great (and yes I am aware that nothing is a miracle cure) but our vet (soon to be ex-vet) said that he had never heard of it and knew of no one who had.So he was unwilling to go forward..has anyone had any personal experience with this medication or know someone who has?How did you/they get it perscribed? How was the cost and most importantly what are your feelings on how it worked.

Thanks for anything..

Hi I wanna know from a parents view on this.

First i am 27 years old and turning 28 in december this year. I travelled asia and throughout for a total of 3 and a half years and worked in china and japan for 2 and half years as a foreign teacher.
Recently my parents, father who is 65 yrs and a mother in her early 50s have decided to retire and are currently building a house as we speak. I am in holiday mode at this point and trying to get some break and spend some time with them to enjoy the new house.

I am the only child in the family and even in my early 20s my parents still gave me a curfew because they were overprotective, they still treat me like a child until now as i am unmarried and have no children. This included giving me thousands of dollars, a car and a future house, clothes and other materialistic posessions. When i was working my mother insisted on paying for my car insurance and medication whenever i got sick and still give me allowance every week. When things got abit difficult in china i ran out of money and my visa expired they bailed me out and gave me thousands of cash and i mean lots and lots of money.

The only trouble is my father somewhat feels that i cannot do anything by myself after what happened in china when i did purposely asked for their help. Eventhough him knowing that i was in big trouble and i had no other choice, he did not appreciate it.
My exboyfriend whom they hated still continues to come up in dinner conversations, debates and arguments. I did end up leaving my ex not only because it did not work out between us but also to end the conflict between me and my parents.
Now i mistakenly think that its all over, they bring up the china part and then everything else. My father says i am a failure and i am nothing close to perfect which is very hurtful.
Yesterday my mother was talking with her friends and mentioned something about me working in an airport which i had no plans or idea about. I wanted to work as a teacher again teaching english but here in australia or doing the veterinary thing but i realised that is still far to go as i have to go through so many courses to pass the test. I got angry and confused because my mother did not tell me about anything to do with working in an airport and I told her that She and my father had no right to make plans for me because i am now a grown up and can plan my life myself and i know what is best for me, i mean i am nearly 30 and have travelled half the world by myself and have lots of experience?!
I told her however that its ok for her to suggest things to me or give me advice but not making decisions because I am old enough to make the decisions.

Anyway after she came home she was furious and was yelling and shouting while i was in the shower. she said to me that I have no respect for her with how i said the things i said to her and what i said. She said she doesnt understand why i was angry and yelling? (ok we were texting by the way) Any she repeatedly implied that i had no respect for my parents by saying that ‘i didnt want her making plans for my life because i was old enough to make my own plans’. Suprisingly my father agreed with her and they both just started ganging up on me?
I felt afraid everytime i walked pass them and come on i got so nervous and angry at the same time that my already shaking hands (due to hyperthyroidism) was shaking even more.

At the end of the night, i walked into my parents room and apologised because it was the only logical thing to do. They my parents have never said sorry out of all the times that they may have been in the wrong, not once have they said sorry to me but i always said sorry, i always gave up the battle because i know that parents think they are always right just like customers are right. Then they brag about everything they have done for me and all the money (nearly 0,000) that they given me throughout the years and i have done nothing of the equivalent. This is what really stabs me right in the heart. It makes me feel guilty. i never asked money half the time they are just throwing it at me and smiling saying ‘here have all this money we love you’. But everytime i do something they do not approve of or do not like or we get into some kind of arguement and i happen to yell back – they bring all this sh1t up about it.
After yesterday my parents are not going to buy me a car when i get back to work eventhough they kind of promised they would because they were concerned about my safety. My father keeps telling me to say sorry to my mother like a hundred times and perhaps she might just hand me some money. And i have to admit i need money now more than ever because i lost my job and i am currently studying a short course.
So now the car thing is gone and i am just going to forget whatever they promised or said to me because in reality i really should not be expecting this from them as i am old enough to work and save money myself, but t
Well first of all i dont stomp and yell like a child lol. I try to reason out with them. I have lived and stood by myself for 2 years in another country without bothering them for a long time. And plus other people i know also get handed money every time they get into trouble but their parents dont treat them like a 12 year old with curfews and tell em how to live their lives?
And i have apologised to them, didnt your read all of my post? What do i have to do apologise a hundred billion times over and over again ?
Are you an asian parent?
Reply to Parent: I assumed as mature as you already are would know that there are a number of aspects to maturity of an individual and is accumulated at different times given the experience that vary at different stages in ones life. Maturity like emotional maturity changes from time to time depending on events that leave an impact eg; trauma. Emotionally immature people are usually driven with the lack or fall of logic thinking my psychiatrist once stated, but that does not mean one is not capable of functioning in the adult society. Some if not most of us are still learning something new each day even as a teacher and that is why we are here in life in our own trek.

Vets can run anywhere from {content}-00 a year. It seems to average about 0, regardless of the size of the dog. A standard office visit, which you should have twice a year, runs about 0, depending on your vet. There are exceptions, of course, we had vet bills of over k one year due to surgeries and various other emergencies. It can add up.

Flea and Heartworm Medication – About /month.

Dog Food – for a premium dry food, this can run about a month for a large dog (we go through a 40# bag of food in about 3 1/2 weeks at our house with two dogs). If you feed canned food, this will be higher. Remember that they will have to eat more of a lower-quality food, so the cost eventually evens out.

Other stuff – we buy a ten pound box of dog biscuits once a month, for about . We also supplement with fresh foods and other vitamin and mineral additives. The cost for this is variable.

Dog License – required in most areas. -20/year.

Toys – about /month
I don’t mind if someone doesn’t get a dog because of this. One less to end up back in a shelter to be put to sleep because it’s now too old to adopt. I just want people to understand what things are really like. You can’t leave the vet with a yearly bill of . Shots cost a lot more than that…and you need a yearly heartworm/lyme test and blood workup. If you are denying your dog these things that is wrong.
Thanks for adding the part about training. That is another 80-1000 cost. Some can get away with only puppy kindergarten, and others who develop behavioral problems cost a LOT more! Just be responsable and don’t get a pet if you may have to deny it basic needs later in life.

What is the chance that the kittens will get sick with the virus as well?

They are just over 1 day old today, and the mother is not on any medication. We already have too many cats, so we can’t keep them, and we’re worried that no-one will want to adopt them. :(
