How long will Great Dane puppy be in pain for after ear cropping?
Puppy will be 12 weeks old when cropped. Will puppy be bandaged right away or will they come home with just splints? And what pain medication did your vets prescribe for your puppy?

I took him to the vet who confirmed it was Kennel Cough. He gave me some Amoxicillin liquid and told me to have him rest and sleep as much as possible.
Is there anything I can do to help him beat this quicker and get better?
Personal experience anyone?
Thanks for pointing out the obvious torbaynewfs. I’m looking for someone who may have had some personal experience with this and might have some knowledge about this virus.
torbaynewfs – I have actually never delt with Kennel Cough the whole time I have owned dogs (23 years). I’ve heard it is very common, but I have personally never dealt with it (luckily), until now. I just wanted some feedback as to how others dealt with it. Of course I’m going to listen to the doctor (that’s why I went there!) and give him his medication but I wanted to hear personal experience from other dog/puppy owners. I don’t plan on giving him any other medication then what the doctor has prescribed, but maybe other people have a few tricks or tips on how to make the virus go away sooner or at least how to make my puppy as comfortable as he can be until he can beat this thing.
You don’t need to be rude. I’m only trying to do what’s best for my puppy so he doesn’t get something worse or deadly like pneumonia or parvo. Sheesh.
My vet has been charging me per six month supply of Revolution for my two small pets (prevents heartworms & flea/tick infestation). This equates to 6 per year for both animals. I found the same medication, I think, online at Joe’s Pet Meds for per six month supply w/ free shipping. This would equate to a savings of 6 per year, which I think is pretty substantial. I looked into several online retailers and I thought this one looked like the most reputable although it is located in Austrailia… I know I can’t be charged with a crime as this type of pet medication is available over the counter. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Guess I could mention that this is a "topical" treatment. You just drip it on the pet’s skin once a month. Thanks.
I’ve found a stray cat and it turns out that she has ringworm, I just wanted a few questions clarified please.
1. What type of medication can you use to treat this in a cat. Is it topical or a pill?
2. Will washing your hands thoroughly kill the fungus and keep it from spreading to you after you’ve handled the cat?
3. How long could this treatment last?
Well all growing up I loved animals and I still do! I had a special bond with each of my pets. While a teenager I got a horse and took excellent care of it. I got quite into the equestrian thing. Horses were like therapy to me. But then my horse colliced. It broke my heart. I was devastated. I hardened my heart and never wanted to get that attached to an animal again.
I also have some mental issues. I have a history of destroying property and hurting my younger sister once (not severely) when I was around 12. But then I got on meds and it was like night and day! I did not have those physical aggression issues anymore. My dad and his family have a history of mental issues as well so I guess genetics played a factor.
So anyways 9 years later I decided I wanted to get off my meds. I was sick of being dependent on a medication. I slowly went down and then later completely went off of them. I did this on my own. I did not have health insurance so therefore no doctor or counselor.
While either not taking the correct dosage or not being on my medication I committed animal abuse. I flushed some unwanted live fish. I was irresponsible and would get pets only to rehome them and get new pets. I was being obsessive.
I had a couple cats but I had to move to a familys place. No cats were allowed due to allergies. I really wanted to keep the cats. I asked this family member but they said no. I could not keep them. I did not know anyone who wanted cats. I did not know craigslist existed at the time.
So not wanting the cats to be euthanized at the local pound, I let them go in a good neighborhood. There was a stream near by and outdoor cats around.
But afterwards I felt so bad! I was worried noone would find them or that they would starve or get run over. I went back to find the cats the next day. I did find the one and was so happy. I did the right thing and took him to the pound. The other one I never could find.
I do not know what I was thinking. I was not thinking straight! I did not realize how serious animal abaondonment is. I needed to grow up and start respecting life. I was a immature 21 year old and had mental issues but still. It was very wrong. I felt so guilty. I thought about suicide. I felt I was a horrible scum of a person.
I decided I needed to change big time. I got back on my meds and take them responsibily. Donated to the ASPCA. I started small as far as taking care of life goes. I got some new fish and took care of them successfully. I promised myself never to flush live fish or abandon again! I also promised myself to never get pets without committing to them for life!
I never could bring myself to get another pet other than fish. I thought I did not deserve them.
But one day this cat walked into my apartment while the door was open for a minute. She has a microchip but her owners have not contacted the microchip company. It has almost been two weeks and tomorrow they can transfer ownership to me. She was abandoned and needs a home. I am falling in love with her and think I am ready to be a good, responsible pet owner. I know I can do it and I have my husband to help me if needed. I am looking for opinions though. Though I do not know if I can part with her. I am opening my heart up again and learning alot. I hardened my heart after having to put my horse down. But I realize its okay to love an animal so much again.
This seems like a second chance to me. She literally came into my life and needs a home. All the no kill shelters in my city are full.
Please be respectful. Thanks!
Yes it is true! She has a home again microchip. They have tried calling the owners multiple times. One number was disconnected and the other number noone answered. I even took her to two different vet offices to douple check her microchip number!!
I am planning to get my 5 months old puppy his pet insurance. I am looking into Petplan, Petfirst, and Embrace Pet Insurance. Just wondering if anyone has their pets under these insurance companies and would love to comment on them. Also I am planning to get him the basic plan. Most annual limits are 00 to 000. Do you think 00 for the little guy would be enough? He’s been pretty healthy. He did get a nasal infection that cost me 0 with medication. From this incident, I am a bit worry for anything unpredictable illness that will pop up in these next few years. Can anyone tell me what is their coverage limit for their pet insurances?
i have a samoyed/chow chow mix. i just a student working part time. i’ve been thinking about getting insurance since i don’t want any unexpected illness/surgery happening where i have to put my entire life saving into saving my dog. i rather have the insurance cover this.
My pet was prescribed eye drops for an eye infection and the prescription is fairly recent. I developed, what i believe, to be the same such infection. I cannot drive due to the infection and i live alone so i cant get to the doctor or the pharmacy. Please tell me if it is allright to take the eye medication i all ready have on hand.
All of my cats have developed terrible flea infestations. My male cat was neutered ten days ago, and i’ve read that you can give them baths ater 7 days. When can I give him a flea bath? and when can I put a flea collar on him also?
Don’t tell me to ask my vet, get medication or any of that buisness. Answer what I asked.
Just curious. Does anyone have pet insurance or some type of plan that gives you a discount on medication for your animal?
I suffer from long term lyme disease. The joint pains can be overwhelming. I was wondering if anyone has ever been prescribed painkillers or any other type of medication to deal with the aches and joint pains associated with Lyme
I adopted a chihuahua mix about a week ago and she is suffering from a kennel cough. Took her to the vet and he prescribed her some cough medication and antibiotics. It now a week since she took the medication but it seems like she is not getting well. How long will she suffer? It hurts me to see her cough her lung out.
I am looking over my new puppy’s medication history and noticed two that I am unclear of. They are ALBON (10 day treatment) and metronidazole (7 day treatment). They were administered on Feb 3 and we purchased her on Feb 6 but were not given any medications. She is now hospitalized with pneumonia and kennel cough but we were told she was healthy when we purchased her. Some clarification on those two meds would be incredibly helpful.
I live in Washington now but am moving to California. In WA, dogs do not need heartworm prevention medication. What are the risks with giving a dog heartworm prevention medication? I don’t want my dog to get sick from the medication or from heartworms!
My dog has numerous allergies and other health problems, and every vet I’ve taken him to (many, as I have moved a few times since I’ve had him) in WA has told me he does not need heartworm protection here.
When I lived in OH, all the vets were very clear about needing it. I asked about it immediately upon moving to WA.
I’m so mad that a VET told me not to worry about it! ARGH!
I am looking for health for my miniature pinscher puppy of 8 weeks… I was wondering what is the best insurance that covers Accident, Illness, medication, (plus Routine Care if possible) for a decent monthly rate? It would be great if the premium does not increase as the dog ages. I am currently looking at Trupanion and Petfirst, but not really sure… Would anyone recommend some insurances that would and did not work for them?
How much is the routine check up anyways?
what would happen if you accidentally gave a heartworm preventative medication to a dog that was positive for heartworm?
