Have had her for four days. Two days ago, she came down with kennel cough. Brought her to the vet and he said to giver her cough medicine. I know he knows what he’s doing, but I’m not comfortable with the answer.
He little boy is sick… He’s going to the vet at 3.00pm today to have a check up. He just doesnt seem himself to me.. he’s couching a little, nose running etc… he doesnt seem to have a temperature and his nose isnt dry,but u can never be too careful!
I dont know anything about dog colds & flu’s and I have a couple of hours till we go off to the vet so I thought I may seek some info??
Do dogs need to be kept warm like humans do when they’re sick? like does he need a blanket or a jumper?
Any info would be great – especially so i know what to ask the vet etc…

Thanks so much Puppy Mommy. I amazes me that people WOULDNT take their dog to the vet… He had his kennel couch vaccine a month ago, so if its that hopefully because of the vaccine it wont be too hard to cure… He’s also weeping from the eyes which is worrying me. He’s a maltese cross but has never weeped from the eyes before (unlike my other dog who does). I noticed this morning that the weeping was quite bad so i wiped his eyes down with some warm salty water… He seems ok, just depressed and not like his usual self… I’m sure its nothing too serious but as a dog mummy i know when there’s something wrong with my bub…

Sorry, but i could never give my dog human medicine unless I was instructed to by a vet… It just doesnt seem right to me – i’m not a doctor or a vet so I cant treat him myself without knowing exactly what the problem is.

He’s a maltese cross.. 1.5 yrs old… He’s always lively and happy and bouncing around but he just wants to lay around now… Its hard to give more info, cos its like, you now when you KNOW ur dog, and u can just tell something doesnt seem right? Its like that.. He is coughing and his nose is running, but the mucus is thin and clear not yellow and gluggy..

We have returned from the ver and Frankie had conjunctivitis and canine flu. He’s on some doggy medicine and had some ointment for his eye, but he will be fine. Thanks guys!
If I know what my dog needs can I just write up a fake prescription and send it into 1800 petmeds? They have tapeworms and I already have the medicine chosen. How do they check if the prescription is real?
The girl suggests you get the medicine in another town, but I can’t find any other towns on the map. I’ve searched the whole map and I can’t find another town.
To start off my puppy has this cold that all my household (including pets) have. I bought a 7 in 1 vaccination to give him because being 3 months and out of the pound he hasn’t had any. On the package it says to only give to healthy dogs. With his cold I was worried to do so. I went online to the website of the vaccinations and it also said that it isn’t reccomended to give to young dogs? Anyways, I figured I could give him an alavert and maybe his cold symptoms would go away, this website said it was perfectly safe if I gave him half and he seemed to be acting like his peppy self afterwards until he threw up. My friend says Due to the fact he hasn’t had any vaccinations he hasn’t the immune system to work against the medicine so it came back up, and then said I should still give him the shot later tha night. What do I do?
My puppy has Kennel Cough, Canine Bordetellosis, and it’s just going to have to run it’s course, but it’s making her very uncomfortable. To ease her coughing I am thinking of giving her some children’s cough medicine. Is this ok?
My vet said it was fine.
Well I plan on going into college for more training so I can do something more advanced in being a veterinarian, but I need a job to just get me on my feet and I figured a veterinarian receptionist would be great for me, I am proficient in all Office Technologies skills, but I’m not sure if I need any additional training as far as veterinarian medicine goes.

I have been reading "the nature of animal healing" by Martin Goldstein and have been learning a lot. I like the book and like any other book I don’t agree with everything but it is a good start on becoming more educated so I can ask my vet more questions. I am very concerned about what my dogs eat and the vaccinations and medicine they get. I like the way he worte the book because he doesn’t suggest that all medicine and pet foods are bad just that some are and vaccines are over used and while some are needed why every year for the life of the dog?
I learned a lot about "ingredients" in pet food and just so much from this book I would like to read more but yes I still plan to take my dogs to the vet when they are ill. I just want to be able to ask what are you giving my dog and make more informed choices about what they are given.
I am sure there are people around here who have good suggestions on books since I don’t have a holistic vet in my area I want to work with my vet
hi, always buy my 7 month pomeranian his flea medicine (k9 advantix-1-10 lbs) at his vet. But its a little more expensive to buy it there. I have been treating a rescue cat for about 2 weeks now for ringworm. She had a lot of places that were a little crusty on the edges. Now the crusty places seem to have gotten bigger. The medicine I got is from a vet but I am not sure if that is a sign of healing or if I should bring her back to the vet.
I am a Freshman at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo majoring in animal science with a concentration in pre vet medicine and comparative animal biology. I have wanted to be a vet for as long as I can remember, but now I’m not so sure that its the right career for me. My ultimate career goal is to work with exotic animals, perhaps in a zoo, but I want to do more than just clean cages. Are there any other careers other than veterinarian that would allow me to do this? Thanks for your help!
I have a new puppy that I adopted from the humane society and he caught kennel cough there. I brought him in to the vet yesterday because he was wheezing and coughing all day. They diagnosed him with kennel cough and prescribed him antibiotics and human cough medicine. I have been giving him his medicine since yesterday. I was just wondering if anyone has been through this before and remembers how long it took for their dog to get well. I just feel so bad for the poor thing. I want him to be his pokey little self again.
The vet talked us into getting the shot. although she’s an indoor cat she does interact with cats through the window screen who have sneezed on her multiple times. I didn’t want her getting leukemia but I also didn’t like the 2% chance She would get cancer from the vaccination. And just recently her eyes started watering. It’s mostly clear discharge and she DOES have allergies (I just stopped putting her allergy medicine in her food a couple of days ago which is when it started)
Could this be a reaction to the vaccination or to her allergies. She has an office visit to the vet in 2 weeks.. Should I reschedule it sooner?
I know I spoil her, but she’s my baby and I love her, I don’t want to loose her. I’m only 15, I don’t have experience with these sort of things.

I have a small german shepherd puppy adopted from an animal shelter and he has kennel cough. I think he may be progressing to pneumonia but we have medicine for both of these problems(kennel cough and pnemounia). I just dewormed him so I was wondering could the worms that were in his stomach be absorbing the medicine we were giving him and preventing him from getting better?
