Insuring my two kittens. How does it work?

I want to insure my two kittens, I’ll be bringing them home in april.

I’m curious as to how it works. I checked it out at the OSPCA and my total was like 44 bucks per month. But when does the insurance kick in? Can I use it for spaying? What about vaccinations? Do I have to be paying monthly fees for a cirtain amaount of time before my vet vills are covered?

Anything you know about pet insurance please tell me
thanks in advanced

Pet Insurance Question?

ok, i’ve been looking all over for affordable pet insurance that will cover the things i want it to
is there anywhere that i can get pet insurance for just basic veterinary care not accidents and illnesses… all i want it to cover is dental cleanings, vaccines, flea and tick preventitives, heart worm tests, and the over all exam… i dont want it to cover stuff like accidents, cancer, or other diseases
just the basic stuff she needs every year… is this possible because it seems like you can only get coverage over that after you’re forking out a month for stuff that might not ever happen… HELP

by the way: im trying to find pet insurance for my 3 year old dog who has never been diagnosed with any illnesses

I am confused… ok so most pet insurance policy’s make you pay up front the total cost… then they reimburse you right? Well then im confused about the deductible?? Why is there even a deductible then if you have to pay the full amount up front? So say my dog broke its leg and it cost me 00. Well then I have to pay the vet 00 out of m pocket up front.. then the dog gets its leg fixed.. then I file my claim and get reimbursed from the insurance however much % that is covered. Well then WHAT IS THE DEDUCTIBLE? Like my personal health insurance has me pay a deductible. So then i go to the doctor and I have to pay up front.. then i go see the doctor then I get a nice bill in the mail for whatever my insurance wont cover… THATS deductible. So what is the deductible for pet insurance when you have to pay the total up front anyways?? I am so confused PLEASE HELP!

Good dog insurance brands?

I love my dog very much, and I want the best for her. Recently my dog has had a bout of ear infections, and my mother isn’t very happy about the high costs for the vet visit and the high costs for the medications. We were reading in Dog Fancy about the benefits of pet insurance for unexpected and expected health bills for my dog.

From experience, are there any particularly excellent examples of dog insurance out there?
I do live in the USA. I wonder if the Kennel Club will cover me? Have to look into it.

My dog is almost 7 months old and I just lost my job. I had to cancel everything including the pet insurance I had not to mention my own health insurance. He has a staph infection I believe the greenish crusty pus balls on his tummy. I dont know what to do! He is up to date on all shots and had his last wellness maybe 2 months ago. What can I do? I have maybe to my name after I drain my savings for bills. What can I do? What if I dont treat it???
It was a month I just fig I waste that on crap!
You want me to pawn my computers and such to pay for a dogs treatment when I have children that need medical attention as well? Um no. Thumbs down.

I’m getting a Great Dane puppy in September and I’m looking for an outstanding (but affordable) pet insurance policy for him to cover any unexpected emergencies/surgeries/etc.

I’ve already decided on a veterinarian and I don’t want to take him to Petsmart’s Banfield, as some friends have suggested to me, so please don’t respond with that! :)

Thanks!

Pet Insurance – Worth It?

I will be adopting a 1 year old cat sometime soon, and I want to make sure that I can do my best to take care of her. This raised the question of pet insurance and the costs, compared to a direct pay to the vet in any case she gets sick. I know it all depends on the illness, but I heard that in most cases where the (inside) cat is well cared for, you can save a lot of money by NOT having pet insurance. Any advice on whether or not I should get insurance?? Thank you!!

If anyone has experience with making claims through pet insurance, I’d really appreciate you giving me some info. I am filing my first claim and am worried that they will call and find out that my dog’s condition was somewhat preexisting. While getting her 3rd round of puppy shots, my vet noticed a place where my puppy had been scratching. He thought it could be a food allergy or just something irritating her skin so he put her on antibiotics to keep it from getting infected. Now, a couple weeks later, she has bumps and lesions. They did a skin scraping and although they didn’t find mites, treated her for scabies due to the pattern and looks of her inflammation. I got pet insurance between the two visits. In your experience, will they call my vet to get more info & if so, do you think the claim will be denied? Thanks!

Male dog always mounting the wrong end?

My Boxer is trying to mount my female Boxer now that she is in heat. We agreed to give her one litter to give to pre arranged family and friends who wanted a pedigree boxer. The male dog is wanting to mount but gets it wrong and the female then loses interest. In this instance, would you assist the mating or let nature take its course. I am spaying her after the litter (if it happens) and I have pet insurance and lots of available money to make sure everything is done right health wise for bitc# and litter.
I will do whatever I want with my dogs. Like I said, One litter to family and friends then spayed. stuck that opinion up your nose
I can say and do what I want. What if all dog owners thought that way? would you even have the dog in the picture?
If I choose to breed my pedigree heart tested and genetically tested boxers which are a good example of the standard and breed and are K.C registered, then why not?
The dog does not have more sense than me, I am a top professional earning £50,000 = a year. more than you probably sweetie. tests= all done.
I enjoy asking this question on here to expose the nazi dog police who think that breeding a litter is the same as many crimes people are given prison sentences for

My mum wont take my dog to the vets?

This is really annoying, and upsetting.

My pug who is 10 months old had had a collapse like four times now every 2-3 months apart. The fourth being last wednesday.. The last two were at similar times of the day between 9-10am. The first two weren’t. They were at 2-3pm and 8-9pm.

During the first ever one he was limp so we thought it was lack of oxygen. His jaw was clenched and he pooped and peed. (wasnt breathing)

The second time he was coughing and came to find me, then collapsed on his side and when i picked him up he was limp but his jaw was clenched shut. (Wasnt breathing)

The third time was first thing in the morning when he was laying on my bed. He was licking at the air quite excessively and woke me up. He came and lay next to me then rolled onto his back and coughed and went rigid and his eyes went back. Again, he was not breathing. I carried him downstairs to find my mum and he pooped and peed. He came round after say 15 seconds of being put on the floor. He rolled onto his front looking quite confused.

We took him to the Vets and the vet done numerous tests such as an ECG, blood tests, X-rays etc and he was fine, so the vet did stenotic nares surgery and also removed a few extra teeth.

That came to a bill of £490. Last week my mum recieved a check from crufts pet insurance for £390 so she got the majority back…however..

Last wednesday i let my pug out i the garden for a poop and i went and sat at the kitchen table waiting for him. He came running in with a blank expression on his face and jumped up at my legs so i lifted him onto my lap and he sat there for a while quietly. Then he had a small cough and his body went rigid, his neck stretched back, he made a noise, his legs stretched out and he peed and his eyes went back (But he was breathing) So i gently put him onto the floor. This is how he came around -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KboCT_xfbJQ

My mum made an appointment for the Vets for today at 5pm but when she came home from work at 4pm she refused to take me and said he is fine and doesn’t need to go "Because he is fine now"

I told her dogs who collapse or have seizures etc don’t lay on the floor 24/7..

There is clearly something wrong and she refuses to take me. I have £100+ in my bank account and said i was willing to pay for the first appointment yet she changes subject or just refuses to take me or yells at me. I said i’d even sell half of my stuff.

This is surely some serious health problem, right? What can i say to make her realize this? I love my dog to bits and we have a great bond and i just want him to get the help he deserves with his health. She has a Pug aswell but she doesn’t have a bond with him like i have with mine.. She just says "Oh, hes just a dog not a human" .. I don’t know why she is being like it because last wednesday she was all up for taking him to the vets now she is making every excuse she can think of. She won’t even give me a proper answer when i ask her "What is wrong with me paying for it myself?" ..

So, what can i do to convince her this really is serious..? She says it’s normal, it isn’t!
1. Doesn’t need to be given away. His breeders have already stated they would tkae him back.

2. Im 16, i can get a job. I also start college so i will get my EMA soon. + I do actually have quite a bit of money stashed away that i have saved.
Well, i meant the £100+ could at least get the first appointment out of the way. Hell, i could even sell my damn xbox 360 elite and thr trillion games i have. I dont even use the damned thing. We have the moneym we have the £390 from his pet insurance. It’s just getting her to understand this is serious.
Getting rid of him is not an option. We do have the money, my mum just says its not worth paying the vet hundreds because he doesnt know what hes doing (because he failed to solve it last time). Im sure he does, hes a vet. I’ll keep talking to her. This dog is what helped me get over depression and selective mutism, so now i need to help him.

Pet Insurance? Any Experiences?

Our dog recently had to have very costly emergency surgery and we are considering getting pet insurance, so that in the event that this ever happens again we’ll be prepared. We have two dogs and estimate that we spend between 00 and 00 a year on preventative medication and vet bills. Just wondering what people’s experiences have been with pet insurance. Is it really worth it? We love our dogs and consider them our children, we’d like to not have to think about money when it comes to making descisions that affect their health.

I am thinking of getting pet insurance for a new puppy. I like the features of "Trupanion Pet Insurance". Does anyone have any experience, either good or bad, about this company?

Thanks.

If this was your dog, what would you do?

He was 7 years old when we adopted him from a rescue center. His previous owners had him since he was a pup, however were moving and couldn’t bring him with.
Within the week of adopting him we found out he had a bad tape worm. Then we found out that he had several teeth surgically removed due to gum disease.
We put him on a pet insurance plan to help pay for any medical issues that might arise, and we enrolled him in a basic training course.
The worms were taken care of, the vaccinations were brought up to date, and we had a minor dental surgery performed to try and save the rest of his teeth.
He graduated at the top of his training class and is very well behaved, he is great with our 6 month old son. (Kid kicks him, pulls his ears, dog just licks him and takes the abuse. Only time he has ever shown any aggression was when a stranger leaned into the stroller to touch the baby, he growled at the stranger. He is very protective of our son and generally follows the baby around the house, keeps an eye on him like a furry nanny.) However he does have a little problem with separation anxiety and sometimes pees in the house if left alone for too long. We are working with him on that issue and have seen much improvement.
We are also working with him on his hygiene- when we first adopted him he didn’t like to be bathed and wouldn’t allow his teeth to be brushed, but now after 8 months we are having a much easier time with performing basic hygiene.

Last week he got sick- he couldn’t hold down any food or water for 3 days. Horrible diarrea, constant vomitting. Even started vomitting blood.
We took him off dog food and water. Started giving him controlled amounts of pedialite. And after a day of keeping down the pedialite we started him on plain rice to eat.
He was very listless and seemed to be in alot of pain but now he’s back to his normal energy level and seems content, if not happy at moments.
Our vet was sure he would need surgery to get through this, however we couldn’t afford the 0-1,200 estimated for exploratory surgery on his digestive tract.
Now he seems to be doing fine without the surgery, whatever it was seems to have passed. Though I won’t lie, he had us all very scared.

His recent illness has brought up the topic for my husband and I…and after much discussion we agree that it may not have been what we were hoping for however we don’t regret the ammount of work nor the ammount of money we put into a dog that we have only had for 8 months. At this point he is part of the family and we would hate to loose him.
However, we were wondering if most other people would have given up by now?
What would you do if this was your dog? With all the unexpected health concerns and the need to re-socialize him…would you have given up?
