Why do breeders insist on giving their clients medical advice if they don’t have a medical degree? And why don’t the clients just go to the veterinarian to have the puppy checked and find out what they need to do to keep the puppy healthy?

when i first bought the puppy, the owner couldn’t find his shot record. so i took him to the vet, and gave him a rabies shot. a week after, the puppy’s last owner called me, said he found the shot record. and i looked, the puppy has already had a rabies shot. so that made 2 in the same month.
Here’s the scoop: she’s 16 months old and a Great Dane. She has anxiety problems and is starting an antidepressant today. I’m not thrilled to do it, but she’s had two major surgeries to remove growths that happen due to her licking from her anxiety (she’s a rescue, we are her third and final home). I want to give her the best quality of life possible. I’ve had her on Canidae and that turned out to be no good when they reformulated it. Now I have her on Nutro, and on top of hearing that it’s killing dogs I’ve also heard it’s being pulled from the shelves. (I don’t know how true that is, but the pet food stores around me are not selling it anymore now). One Specialty food store told me that Premium Edge is good, and my vet told me she liked what she saw on the back of the sample I received. However, when I move in two months the closest dealer for Premium Edge is 45 miles away and that just won’t do. I do not want to put her on Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet or anything like that. We are a fairly organic family (we do the best we can) and want to do the best to keep our puppy the same way, but a raw food diet is just not doable (time and budget wise.)

I notice after my puppy got neutered and his shots cost a fortune! We don’t know which insurance to choose or if it is really worth it.
I’ve recently discovered 2 warts in my puppy’s mouth and took him to the vet. He said it was the canine papillomas virus and it should go away on its own. He also said that the dog is alright to be taken in for a grooming.
Does petsmart have any policies that contradict what he said?
I am supposed to see an English Bulldog puppy tonight and he went to the vet this morning and part of his litter has ringworm so they all need to be treated for 2-3 weeks. He does not have it himself but still needs to be treated so I am questioning if I should still go see this puppy. Thanks.

Today our vet called us and said he thinks our 7 month old puppy has Addison’s Disease. He is planning to review her file with a few other vets in a couple days, so there is nothing specifically pertaining to Addison’s Disease in her file.
If we get insurance ASAP, would this be considered a pre-existing condition if there were running other tests? (She had Giardia before).
Any information or personal experience about pet insurance would be GREATLY appreciated as we’re looking at about 0/month treatments on a PUPPY.

What are the materials I need to stimulate my 2 day old puppy? We separated it from its mother because it’s her first time to have a puppy, and it seems like she has been playing with her puppies roughly. She even killed one, and ate the other one!Pls help me!
My vet said we can get our puppy spay (shes about 5 months), but my co-worker who has owned many dogs says it’s better to wait until after the first heat, becuase of hormones and such. Has anyone ever heard one way or another? I am going to talk to my vet on Friday when we bring her in, but wanted to hear some other experiences first. Thanks!
He little boy is sick… He’s going to the vet at 3.00pm today to have a check up. He just doesnt seem himself to me.. he’s couching a little, nose running etc… he doesnt seem to have a temperature and his nose isnt dry,but u can never be too careful!
I dont know anything about dog colds & flu’s and I have a couple of hours till we go off to the vet so I thought I may seek some info??
Do dogs need to be kept warm like humans do when they’re sick? like does he need a blanket or a jumper?
Any info would be great – especially so i know what to ask the vet etc…

Thanks so much Puppy Mommy. I amazes me that people WOULDNT take their dog to the vet… He had his kennel couch vaccine a month ago, so if its that hopefully because of the vaccine it wont be too hard to cure… He’s also weeping from the eyes which is worrying me. He’s a maltese cross but has never weeped from the eyes before (unlike my other dog who does). I noticed this morning that the weeping was quite bad so i wiped his eyes down with some warm salty water… He seems ok, just depressed and not like his usual self… I’m sure its nothing too serious but as a dog mummy i know when there’s something wrong with my bub…

Sorry, but i could never give my dog human medicine unless I was instructed to by a vet… It just doesnt seem right to me – i’m not a doctor or a vet so I cant treat him myself without knowing exactly what the problem is.

He’s a maltese cross.. 1.5 yrs old… He’s always lively and happy and bouncing around but he just wants to lay around now… Its hard to give more info, cos its like, you now when you KNOW ur dog, and u can just tell something doesnt seem right? Its like that.. He is coughing and his nose is running, but the mucus is thin and clear not yellow and gluggy..

We have returned from the ver and Frankie had conjunctivitis and canine flu. He’s on some doggy medicine and had some ointment for his eye, but he will be fine. Thanks guys!

I’m not the richest person in the world but I think it’ll all be worth it if she ever gets sick etc.
I know I couldn’t afford it if anything did happen to her, and I love her ALOT.
My boyfriend always complains about me wasting my money on it because "she’ll never get sick".
He also says its a waste of money because if something does happen, I still have to pay 0 BUT they’ll take care of the rest.

I am a college student and have wanted a dog for my entire life but have been unable to get one because of my parents forbidding me to own one in their home. However, I may be getting an apartment soon and would like to adopt a Labrador Retriever. I plan to adopt a grown dog because I can’t commit to training a puppy at this point but know that I can commit to spending enough time with an adult dog and exercising it (and teaching it how to play Frisbee!) and caring for it. My main question is simply how much the cost of caring for a Labrador Retriever is. I have done research and have a general idea but essentially would like to know an average for things such as food bills, pet insurance bills, and vet bills for this breed of dog. I know this breed has some health issues like heart worm and hip problems so I was wondering what type of bills these problems would cost. I understand the cost of owning a dog is not cheap but I was just looking for a general idea as I plan out my finances.
I would like to clarify that when I was at class my roommates would be with the dog and at most it would be alone for a few hours a day; there are thousands of dogs across the country that are alone all day while their family is at work and school. These dogs may spend 8 hours alone (which mine would not) and for adult dogs this is done all the time with happy dogs.
