My parents really aren’t into the whole,"Hey, let’s save the dog population!" thing, so I am trying to figure out if there is some way I can get her vaccinated, and spayed for cheap.

I’ve heard you have to fill out some kind of application? Where do I get it?

I stay in Florida if that helps.

Okay, I work at a pet store that sells high quality and grain free foods such as taste of the wild, merrick, wellness, eagle holistic, evolve, nature’s variety, wysong, halo, etc. Well, today at work, I was reading an article about a new line of food we will be carrying from wysong called "Wysong Epigen" (it’s a dry dog and cat food), and the article is titled "Starch free vs. Grain free". Here is the article: (ps – in your response to the article, I don’t want to hear you advocating raw food, I don’t care, all I want opinions on is the commercial dry foods, thanks)

"Starch is the fundamental problem is all kibble pet foods. "Epigen" is the first kibble pet food absent of this unnatural (to carnivorous pets) sugar source (starch is simply a polysugar). Grain free products have merely replaced grain with other, less healthy starches such as potatoes, peas, and tapioca. This solves nothing. It only creates a perception of benefit that, according to scientific studies, is not true. Starch is starch, whether it’s from potatoes and tapioca, or corn and wheat.

Starch-free Epigen represents a true first, and is an honest, natural, and healthy product. Grain free diets are marketed as "new", "more natural" "more wild", "just like raw" and "more meat". All such claims are false and misleading.

Starch-free Epigen replaces the starch ingredients with proteins (the carnivore’s main requirement) and a wide spectrum of essential nutrients. Grain free products are not only laden with starches, they are nutritionally inferior. Moreover, studies have shown that by replacing grain starches with other forms. beneficial probiotics are decreased and pathogenic bacteria are increased.

Grain free products have only been falsely promoted as more akin to what dogs and cats would eat in the wild. Grain free diets have no science behind them and solve no health problems because they contain the same problematic starch that has been in all pet foods since the beginning. They do, however, create an illusion of benefit and uniqueness, but that only justifies an inflated price. What has driven grain free is marketing industry trending, hype, and profiteering."

I am not a fan of this article. I have switched many people’s dogs with skin issues to grain free foods and have had GREAT feedback from most, and my dog is on Taste of the Wild, and his mild dry skin has disappeared. Do you agree with this article, or do you think it’s just marketing on Wysong’s part? thanks for reading.
we are not about marketing. We care about the foods for the pet. This is simply something that was faxed to us by Wysong company. I DO NOT like what they are saying, and I promote grain free feeding, and I feel as though this article does nothing buy bash it..

Do you care if your dog food is organic?

Whether commercial or raw diet?

My local pet supply chain just started stocking Innova’s "Karma" – the most thoroughly organic dog food I know of.

But it’s .99 for a 6 lb bag, and that’s the only size they sell. Whaaaat?

Taste of the Wild, a better food (more and better meat sources) except non-organic, is .99/6 lb bag

If I’m at the supermarket picking up meats for my pups and the organic stuff is close in price to the non-organic, I’ll get the organic.

But 3x the price? /lb – more expensive per/lb than actual organic chicken itself?

Kinda like a hybrid car – I’ll gladly become a customer when you make the price within reason.

I would think raw feeders might want to feed organic as an extension of some of the reasons why they turned away from commersh food in the first place.

U?
There is the USDA standard, and Karma is USDA certified organic.

Alot of other ‘organic’ foods use other entities for certification – and I find all that to be completely non-credible.

I don’t think there is zero actual value in truly organic food – just not enough for me personally to pay much extra for it.

Okay so my mom and I both use this account so this is hers too. I am 16 years old, nearly 17. I know when you’re my age you’re supposed to like despise your Rents but I don’t, which doesn’t bother me because I’m not a sheep. My dad is a Video game tester, and my mom is a Radio announcer at a classic rock station. They both tend to be pretty cool. I came home drunk one night, and I knew they knew. The next day when I was hung over I thought they were going to kill me. They both came at me, but they weren’t mad I was drunk, okay they were a little, they were mad that I was trying to hide it from them. Apparently the "expect me to experiment" but they never want me to touch hard drugs, or feel I need to lie to them. I kinda noted the hard drugs part because I think back in the day they were both pot heads. mom ended the conversation saying ps to avoid a hangover chug water before bed. Whose mom says that? for the record I haven’t experimented any other substances, I’ve drank a couple times with my friends, but I tell one of them so they know to come get me, and dad tends to be a night owl. I am also a drummer. I wanted to start playing drums 2 years ago so dad rented me a set, who’s parents do that without a fight over can’t you choose something quieter? they both stopped parking their cars in the garage so I had room to practice. They started a rent to own program for me and now that I have a job they split the monthly payments with me. We have a dog, and each of us have our own pets my 8 year old sister has a fish my 12 year old brother has a hamster I wanted a guinea pig, and so did mom so we got 2 girls mine is named after Alice Cooper, so her name is Alice, and mom is a big KISS fan so hers is named Dr. Love lol. To continue yes I’m on the pill. Mom put it on her health plan instead of dad’s so I wouldn’t be embarrassed. Dad lets me test out new video games with me and jams with me some times, also he insulated the garage this summer for me and bought me heaters so I could play in their in the winter. Mom, since she works for a classic rock station, she has taken me to see Trooper, KISS, The Stones, I met Eddie Van Halen, I saw ACDC in concert and she made my dream come true a month ago when I not only got to see, but meet my Idol Alice Cooper. My question? Don’t I have the most KICK ASS Parents?
a little from column a, a little from column b, and there is a hidden column c, that hopes mom will see this and feel appreciated
ok They totally care about me, both of them are totally there for me, and tell me they love me all the time. Mom even makes jokes that she doesn’t "throw around the L word". As for the friends comment. No they aren’t trying to be my friend, because believe me I have been grounded for slipping grades and stuff, and I flipped on Dad one day, that was ugly. they are my parents first and my friends second. they’re just laid back

Postexposure rabies vaccine consists of five shots, given on day 0, day 3, day 7, day 14, and day 28 [after exposure]. On day zero rabies immune globulin is also given because the vaccine takes, depending on the individual, seven to fourteen days to provide an active antibody response.

Is it okay to start with the vaccine after the you got bitten?
***by "after" i mean the day AFTER i got bitten. because experts say that i should take the vaccine on day zero (0) meaning the day i got bitten.

What are some AKC names for a female Boxer?

I have a 8 week old Boxer, her name is Trixie but I have to fill out some AKC paperwork, her mom’s name was Black Sapphire but they called her "Liv" and her dad’s name was Enoch Pleased or something like that but they called him Enoch.

I can’t really think of anything.
I guess it has to be a 2 part name?

Any advice on Pet Insurance?

I’m looking to adopt a dog in the next week or two, and in getting together all the preparations, I’ve taken pet insurance into consideration. I currently work at a vet, so all of my exams/vaccines are free to me, but I see so many pet emergencies and the prices that come with them..

I’m planning to completely "dog-safe" my house the best I can an crate train for when I’m not home, but still a little unsure. Is Pet Insurance worth it? If so, does anyone have any recommendations?

Any answers are graciously appreciated :) .

He has a bald spot on his head, and the vet says its a possibality that it may be ringworm.
We just got him 2 weeks ago and he started to grow a bald spot on his head. The vet said that our small dog might like him too much and lick his head a lot and watch out for that. it has been 2 days and I can see little hairs starting to grow back. The vet also said that if he DOES have a ringworm then we will see more spots on him. The vet concluded it all with a " Give it a week and if his hair grows back, he’s ok. but if it gets worse, with more spots, etc, take him back and we will test him." He is not acting different, always playful. I looked up a piture of a at with ringworm on googe and I saw a cat who also had a bald spot, but it was orange looking. My kitten, Oscar, just has a regular bald spot and there is no orange, just a little "boo-boo" from our 3 year old dog who may have been playing too rough. PLEASE tell me what my kitten may, or may not have.

How to help dog acclimate back to home?

He is a Bichon Frise/Poodle mix 25lbs and was in boarding for almost a week (we were traveling out of state and couldn’t bring him) and it was so sad/cute when on the way home he was whining almost like "I missed you guys where were you!"

Now he’s at home and resting, obviously enjoying the chance to nap at home instead of the combination dog hospital/school/boarding business where he resided for a week. What more can we do to help him enjoy being back with his family?

I’ve been told that there are over 400 breeds not accepted by the AKC, and not all of them are simply rejected, I’ve been told that some reffuse to be accepted because of something to with money, but that’s not important.
I don’t understand why simply because a dog doesn’t have AKC papers it is worthless in the eyes of many, even though it’s not a mutt and that it IS purebred. From what I understand, papers from any given club are easily obtained for the right price, AKC included. That kinda lowers the worth, because it’s been said that an imperfect dog can be registered with the AKC if both parents were regestered *that’s the way it’s been put, which would meen a designer breed from registered parents could be registered, but i know that’s not the way it is*

Why is it that the AKC is so important, and that only breeds recognized by that club are real breeds?
Why did everyone assume that I don’t like mutts? I have a mutt and he’s way more loyal than any PB anything I’ve ever met. I said that mutts and the unrecognized were worthless to many who beleive that the AKC is god, not me. I love mutts, and some of my favorite breeds aren’t recognized by the AKC and I wanted to know what made the AKC so special.
From what has been said by most here, it’s simply because the AKC is older and bigger than any other in America. Saying they’re better is like saying my gramma’s better than me because she’s been around longer, so those saying it’s just a status symbol….
Even the ones that didn’t agree with you proved your point for you. Funny how the highandmighty don’t think about how they’re proving the point they’re arguing against, but they do it all the time.
Like an open minded person talking to a Baptist… lol, it’s an inside joke reffering to the baptists around here, not all of them.
I don’t get all the "thumbs down" on answers that are seemingly pretty blunt and to the point. I think most of them are right on the money *if not only because it’s the popular opinion* But think about it.

Get a PERFECT right down to the toenails example of a breed, unregistered and see what it’s "worth" even though it is indeed, perfect by the AKC standards.

Then get a dog, same breed, small fault of some sort, but this one’s registered. I betcha money that most people will pay more because an imperfect dog with papers is somehow more desireable than a perfect dog without?

It seems that the AKC is a status symbol fueled by money, as that is what all of the answers that actually had any info and weren’t an opinion of me seemed to be able to prove far more effectively than the people saying "You’re wrong because I’m right".

If you firmly beleive something, argue the POINT, not your opinion of the asker of the question.

Would anyone please tell me the meaning of "having to subordinate a pet project" in the following sentence:( I would appreciate if you could translate it to Farsi or otherwise explain the whole sentence to me )

"A major health insurance company attended to create a project management office but failed, because each project manager was used to doing things his or her own way and resisted having to subordinate a pet project to a central office".

Thanks in advance

I am planning on getting another female papillon *that i intend to show locally and possibly breed one day, not to sell but just to have a bunch of dogs in the house. love the little buggers* but because i’m planning on breeding one day, I want to be sure that the one that I adopt will be a good investment, so to speek. My first papillon, purchased durring a fit of "I want" from a pet store when I was seventeen suffered from a luxating patella that cost 0 to fix. Of course, I had her spayed at six months with no intention of ever breeding a dog without papers, but had she been bred I could have been paying that 0 3 to six times over again to fix the puppies. That, to be blunt, would suck.

Thing is, I was looking at the AKC classifieds, and nobody seemed to test for genetic problems, at least not in florida. Why is that? Not even the one breeder belonging to the parent club.
I understand the costs of new puppies, and I have two years to be saving for the possibility of six puppies needing to be cared for. At least two years is better to say. An the c-section would just be another cost to save for. Each puppy I’m estimating to be about 0, which is better than 00 per puppy buying from breeders.

How much will a knee xray cost for a dog?

My dog needs his hind knee x-rayed. We live in Oregon. His vet quoted me about 0 because he will need to be sedated. Is this typical? This seems exorbitantly expensive to me.

Please don’t answer with "it depends". I’m looking for actual NUMBERS please. From people who actually know instead of just guessing & typing down any random answer for yahoo points. Thanks.

A few other questions as well…

My pet insurance told me that pet fees are higher in my area than in many other states. Would it be worth the drive to Washington (about 45 minutes) to get reduced rates? What will that do for my ability to take him somewhere closer for cheaper and more routine things that will happen with more frequency? Is it worth being established at a very faraway vet to save some money on an xray and surgery?

Also, is it really going to be worth the trouble of calling around to find out? I already had to do quite a bit of calling around when the problem initially arose and I settled on a clinic that had moderate prices & had a good feeling about. They are very reasonable for routine things. However, I’m finding it really hard to believe how much they charge for diagnostic and surgical care.

The reason this even got brought up is because I had a friend who only paid about 0 for his dog’s (major) knee-repair surgery, and I was quoted 00 for a (minor) knee-repair surgery. Before I found this out I didn’t question a thing. Now I’m wondering. My clinic did say that his doctor is a noted knee speicalist though, would that have something to do with it?
