I have a 5 year-old male cat who is a mixed breed. Recently I’ve had to take him to the vet because he had a blockage of struvite crystals in his urethra. The total amount I spent on him came to about 00. The vet said this could happen again. There is no way I can pay that much again. I’ll be paying off that amount for the next year.

I was looking into pet insurance and found a company that looked pretty promising. The only thing is that I don’t know what would count preexistingting condition. I don’t think this would count because there’s only a *chance* that it’ll happen again. The site says insurance would cover recurring illnesses, but I don’t know how to determine recurring from preexisting.

If anyone knows more about pet insurance or has any advice whatsoever in regards to pet insurance and pet care, let me know.

I have four cats, one has a sensitive stomach (throwing up anything that is not the vet brand sensitive stomach formula) and one that has stress issues that causes him to stop using the litter box and is on Urinary SO to help fight the accumulation of crystals. It gets expensive to have to buy two different cat foods and I wanted to know if there was one food out there that would cover both issues.

My puppy has kennel cough and is on antibotiches?

My puppy has kennel cough and the vet prescribed antibiotics two days ago which i give her twice a day. Last night she was coughing like crazy and this morning was coughing up big amounts of phlegm. Is this good or bad? My first thought was that its all getting out of system…she is still eating, still plays but is def tired alot.

Just want to make sure the coughing up wasn’t a sign of things getting worse.

Best dog food for my adolescent puppy?

I have an eight month old female samoyed, and at the moment we live in Belgium. The thing is, the only food that I can find here is normal pet shop dog food such as Iams, Eukanuba, etc… Right now we feed her Chicken Royal Canin Medium Puppy, but I would really like to switch over to a brand like Timberwolf or Canidae.

However, I can’t find any of these higher quality foods in any pet shops around here or at my vet’s office. I was wondering if anyone knew of a comparable high quality dog food that I could buy in Belgium. At the moment I am not interested in feeding her a raw meat diet.

Thanks!

First question: Is there anything that can be done to make this boarding experience much better than the last?

2nd Question: My Terrier is going to have to miss one of her CGC classes, how should I handle that?

They are being boarded somewhere different this time. Last time they were boarded at their previous vet. They were supposed to be kept together but out poodle ended up in a smaller cage in another section and our Terrier mix (who is only 20lbs) ended up in an indoor outdoor run. Also I sent their food with them, our poodle is on a special diet, and I found out he was given another dogs food and another dog was given his food. Even though I put on there how much to give and both my dogs first and last names followed by ONLY. (My poodle became very sick from that)

We were gone for 10 days and both dogs came home traumatized. Our terrier came back to us about like she did when we adopted her.

this place has assured us the dogs will be together, and I can even come back and see where they are put when we drop them off, they assured us they would have playtime and walks together. (but I’m still nervous because we’ve heard that before)

They seem a lot better here though and I hope its a better experience. We are only going to be gone two nights.

What can i do as not to worry and what can I do ahead of time to help make this a better experience for them?
I don’t do petsitter or anything like that. I don’t like the idea of someone coming into my home when I’m not there. So boarding is the only option
Add: They used to stay with relatives but our relative that would watch them got a dog and they said they couldn’t handle having 3 dogs in the house so we no longer have anyone that can watch our dogs.

sick dog=/?

So i have a chocolate lab that is about one year old, she frequently has stomach problems such as runny stool. Today she looks very sick and is throwing up some sort of goo white stuff. What is wrong with her?

she goes off and on with these problems.
we have already spoken to the vet, who just says don’t feed her for a day then give her chicken & rice. BUt the last time we did this it obviously did NOT work.

so yeah.

Should I go into a polytechnic to study the Diploma in Veterinary Bioscience or go to a Junior college?
And how do I get into an overseas university in order to become a veterinarian? I really want to become a vet but I’m not sure about my financial situation as I heard I have to study overseas for at least 5 years. Please help. Thanks :)

Where do you buy your pet meds from?

specifically flea and tick prevention and heartworm meds

I asked a somewhat related question earlier

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Atmm1.0R0XONFMQtiotB28bsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090514110005AAGzgpG

I was hoping to start buying my stuff from 1800petmeds because they’re the cheapest I’ve found so far. My vet is making that impossible to do though as they refuse to write rx and make you buy the meds directly from them (that’s what my last question was regarding). I know I can get Sentinel for much cheaper online than at my vets office. Is 1800petmeds a good company?

Side note: My dog is 12 weeks old. Vet has not done heartworm test on her yet but gave me a sample of heartworm meds which I started last month. Now I need to get some more. I do not have a problem with taking the dog to the vet to check for heartworms, I asked them about it and they said they won’t test her yet since she’s under 6 months old. I guess some people misunderstood me last time and thought that I wasn’t wanting to take my dog in to get checked for heartworms.

I want to start a blog about this subject and I want to be fair and accurate. I searched on line and most companies want to charge me 00 for the report. This is a hobby I don’t have this kind of money for it. I need source of free information for content on my blog. I would also like to find market info on vet cost, and the common causes of pet being taken to a vet. Thanks

I took him to the vet who confirmed it was Kennel Cough. He gave me some Amoxicillin liquid and told me to have him rest and sleep as much as possible.

Is there anything I can do to help him beat this quicker and get better?

Personal experience anyone?
Thanks for pointing out the obvious torbaynewfs. I’m looking for someone who may have had some personal experience with this and might have some knowledge about this virus.
torbaynewfs – I have actually never delt with Kennel Cough the whole time I have owned dogs (23 years). I’ve heard it is very common, but I have personally never dealt with it (luckily), until now. I just wanted some feedback as to how others dealt with it. Of course I’m going to listen to the doctor (that’s why I went there!) and give him his medication but I wanted to hear personal experience from other dog/puppy owners. I don’t plan on giving him any other medication then what the doctor has prescribed, but maybe other people have a few tricks or tips on how to make the virus go away sooner or at least how to make my puppy as comfortable as he can be until he can beat this thing.

You don’t need to be rude. I’m only trying to do what’s best for my puppy so he doesn’t get something worse or deadly like pneumonia or parvo. Sheesh.

I want to be a vet for marine animals. Is there such a thing to do a veterinarian class without having to deal with cats? Can I be just a veterinarian for marine animals exclusively?

My vet has been charging me per six month supply of Revolution for my two small pets (prevents heartworms & flea/tick infestation). This equates to 6 per year for both animals. I found the same medication, I think, online at Joe’s Pet Meds for per six month supply w/ free shipping. This would equate to a savings of 6 per year, which I think is pretty substantial. I looked into several online retailers and I thought this one looked like the most reputable although it is located in Austrailia… I know I can’t be charged with a crime as this type of pet medication is available over the counter. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Guess I could mention that this is a "topical" treatment. You just drip it on the pet’s skin once a month. Thanks.

How to get neutered cat to stop spraying?

My four-year-old male cat (who has been neutered for nearly four years now) recently started spraying the bathroom floor, bath mats, shower curtains and doorways to two bedrooms. I took him to the vet and they said he is perfectly healthy — and that he just has an attitude. Any ideas for how to rid him of this new habit?
