A microchip is a little device about the size of a grain of rice that is inserted under the skin with a needle. It contains all sorts of information when scanned….like your name, address, phone, etc… . A dog license is what the city issues so your dog can drive a car. Ok, I’m kidding. It is usually mandated by the city you live in and requires you to report ownership of your dog so it’s info can be recorded and kept on file. Things like breed, sex, neutered or not….that sort of info. And, of course, it generates revenue for the city because a dog license costs money….(not much though…like $10 I think).
a microchip is something the vet puts in your dog;usually shoulder.
and if you dog is ever lost you will be able to find him/her.
Depends on the area your are in
Laws for pet owners …
License New York State Law (New York City Dog
License Law) requires all dogs to be licensed. New York
City Health Code ยง161.04 requires a dog in public to
have a dog tag license attached to its collar.

In australia you can only have 2 dogs and two cats under 4000square house, in a house 4000+, you can have 4dogs and 4 cats. To have extra you need to pay for permit, and you must register all animals over the age 3month with your local council, and you must also registery with The National Pet Register and spay/neutering is mandatory before all dogs/cats are placed in new homes.
I also believe you need a licence to breed, however people still breed without a licence.
Enter the microchip, a tiny transponder the size of a grain of uncooked rice. This is a permanent radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip implanted under the dog’s skin and read by a chip scanner or wand. Implantation is done with an injector that places the chip under the loose skin over the dog’s shoulder.
Ok when you go tot he vets you get your dog/cat microchiped (they insert a tiny chip between the shoulder blades – doesn’t hurt) which theyscan (like at the supermarket with food) and your details come up.
If you dog is ever lost, pick up by RSPCA etc they scan and return.
The license – one you need to contact your council to ensure you have permission to have a dog should be on your tenancy agreement, two you need a copy of the documents from the vet stating that your dog is upto date with all its injections and three (but no really necessary) a full check up from the vet to state your dog is healthy and is free of any infections and dieases (you only need this last one if you are taking your dog out of the UK – ROI for example) as no quarantines for them.
Hope that clears things up
