I have 2 chihuahuas we got from the pound….and we got a Dog License Renewal form from the county……why do I need to license my dogs? Whats the purpose, and whats the penalties if I decide not to? Just wondering….is it that important?

yes get them just cue it the law!! we got a 350 dollar fine for not having my dogs done a few years back!! we wear like 2 months late on getting them renewed!! it also helps identify your dog if they get lost!!
There are a number of benefits to licensing your dogs. The degree of "benefit" depends on how enlightened your local authorities are.
1. Dog licenses help pay for services like shelters, returning lost dogs to owners, animal control, and even dog parks.
2. Licensing your dog may help it get back to you if it is ever lost.
3. Licensing can help municipalities better estimate the needs of their citizens. Just as cyclists get bicycle paths, and skateboarders get skateboard parks, dog owners should have amenities like off-leash parks, and the like.
There are some downsides to licensing. Probably the least of which is the expense. I mean, it’s usually less than $25. If you can’t afford $25 a year, then you can’t afford a dog. Another drawback are regions that have passed breed-specific legislation, and use licensing as a way to target owners with specific kinds of dogs.
One of the best examples of a well-run animal services department is Calgary, Canada. Click link for an overview:

yes you need to do it – it tells the county who owns the dogs. Who do you think helps to pay for the saving of the dogs and cats from the streets.. you pay for the license and that help support the animal shelter in your area..
Because they send out new tags to ID your dog (current tags). Especially helpful if your dog gets lost, but the microchips also help w/ that. I know when I found a lost dog w/ tags it helped me find the owner a lot easier b/c they had the info on file.
It is important to get it, and a pretty small fee to pay. If you don’t do it, you can get a fine.
It helps your community keep track of what dogs are in the city, and who they belong to. It can be a big help if your dog gets loose, and besides, the fines for not having them licensed isn’t worth it, especially because the licenses are fairly cheap, at least where I am
Because it’s the law? Most places anymore have a licensing requirement for all pets, not just dogs. In most cities/counties, it’s an ordinance violation, which typically results in a fine and a ticket. Here, it’s $35 per dog, per violation.
when your dog gets out and attacks or bites some kid , it also allows law enforcement to know who is responsible as owner of the dog , so that When they ask for your UP to date rabies Certificate You can provide IT and the name of the vet who administered it, which would prevent the Human from going through a series OF painful Rabies Shots for themselves , I realize YOur dogs arent a huge threat , But they are a threat If I dont know they are yours … IF the dont have tags , when they run off or get lost , they end up in the pound on death row.. all because your irresponsible ?? think about it.. and dont say MY dogs would never do that,.. because you dont KNOW that ..
